I don't treat the bible like I treat food or art. Food is useful. Art is entertaining.
There is nothing special or unique about the bible out of the millions of books in the library.
99% of those books are infinitely more important, more interesting, more practical than the bible or koran, and therefore infinitely more deserving than the bible or koran.
Don't treat the Quran like you treat food or art. There is only one accurate interpretation. Don't treat Green Eggs and Ham like you treat food or art. There is only one accurate interpretation.
2+2=16! At least, that's my opinion! I'm always amazed that we do not tolerate subjectivity in many areas of life except when it comes to religion. There cannot be 2 competing 'truthes'! To impose my opinion onto God is idolatry!
This person says it's "insane" to interpret the Bible rather than take the Bible literally?
I think it's insane to believe that the Bible is true when it so obviously isn't. Talking snakes? An ark containing more species of animal than could possibly fit in an ark? Dead people walking around at the time of the crucifixion? How else, other than by interpretation, is one to make sense of these tall tales?
@frankroto Don't even ask the question, save yourself lol All you're going to get is argument and insults. People are imperfect, flawed, ruled by emotion, greed, power, etc., yet this christian god gave them these perfect words to live by... um when you take the bible literally or interpret it, EITHER WAY its going to be effed up, everything is going to be twisted and warped, because of the way humanity is. It just doesn't work!
Well, it's sad to say, but most people are gonna be lost. I've finally faced reality now. Only by the grace of God will some be saved. If I could find any way within myself to deny that Bible is true, then I definitely would want to. However, for some reason, I know it's true, and I can't deny what I know is true in my heart. If I do go to Hell, I'll go believing that Bible is true. Isn't that insane?
@Pacslyf Levticus chapter 11 - Just after YHWH calls homosexuality a sin. "But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales; that shall be an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10-12)

One needs to remember this was a book created by men, and only men. It was put together into canon, by men, not a God. It may have some words of wisdom, but you can get much of the same from Buddhism, Hinduism, any world religion not abrahamic.
I'm quite happy having been saved from Christianity and realize all religions absurdities and faults. Hopefully humankind will realize the same before we blow ourselves up over our imaginary friends.
Insanity. This joker wants Christians not to apply personal politics or ethics when interpreting the Bible. Interesting. Which version is he talking about? New American? King James? Revised? The new revised??? Any version will tell a much different story. I think I'll start adhering to the teachings of the King James Bible. It allows me to have slaves and beat my family members. And better yet, I can publicly stone my boss for asking me to work on the sabbath.
Religionists created an invisible hand puppet called "absolute moral authority" which they claim whispers mysteries to them just like a ventriloquist pretends to hear an imaginary external person's voice, then demand that such ventriloquism be accepted as special prophetic revelation. It's really just a puppeteer act with an audience of authority worshipers willing to believe in ventriloquists because they need the comfort of having a parental superego tellling them how to think & what to do.
This is a true message, in our modern schools the children are not taught ethics, once a central theme, and they choose what they personally value, revision some other things, and reject the rest as inconsequential; the words of the Holy Bible really did say that, and its first reading is intended to read the words themselves. Advance understanding requires the first reading of the words, sentences, and paragraphs as they are written; it really said that.
@woodsleeps Christians brought literate values, for five generations a little blue book of moral lessons with language skills was America's teaching. The atheist reject it because it might sound religious; Christians see and hear things, don't be like a Christian, atheist.
@woodsleeps Unbelievable, you treat Christians like dogs, and abuse them in some kind of fantasy. If you entered a church, it is because you saw brick and stone, you never saw Christ.
@woodsleeps You came all the way to Holy Bible territory to say that, your homosexual hands are still in my pants demanding obedience. I will say it like your savior Christopher Hitchens: You are an evil person, you have no right to tell me what to do, I have my freedom, you cannot come and tell me how to behave, you are evil for all of your wrong doings, you practice abuse of people and are immoral. You are the one who named Christians the genocide, you can eat your shit.
@WOWJBEOWULF What would a lesbian be doing with her hands in your filthy pants? You really don't understand what "lesbian" means do you? You keep accusing me of sodomy. Rather difficult with female equipment!
I have EVERY RIGHT to pursue you and hold you accountable morally, and legally, for verbally abusing and harrassing teenage girls on the Internet.
You have broken the law and unfortunately for you, you have run into someone who cares about this.
@woodsleeps Pig shit, you have every right to shut your face. You are a violent person and hatred of anything Jesus Christ ever was. You said of Christians, " It is cruel, bloodthirsty, narcissistic, murderous, genocidal, racist, mysogynistic, homophobic, infanticidal, totalitarian, and the risable fact is, that, even though you bible belt americans adore 'freedom' and loathe communism, the christian 'god' is the epitome of a communist dictator." You are a Hun, and the low end of life.
@woodsleeps You are going to respect men, you shall obey, " do not talk to me." You are hatred against Jesus Christ, you intend to murder Jesus Christ, and you want Jesus Christ dead, already nailed to that naked, nailed, bloody, stabbed, flogged Cross; Christ taken to Heaven from the Dead Cross; because he said "God" and you god-hater are going to be responsible for your words and deeds, you do your hate shit, you shall go away. You have choices to choose another friend, pig shit.
If he ever existed, he was a Bronze Age paranoid schizophrenic, with, I'll give you, some charisma, but only enough to make a bunch of superstitious goatherds horny.
Jesus died a very long time ago, and he was just a man, like you will become one day.
@woodsleeps Jesus Christ: "All men will hate you because of me." and "The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil." Christ is in us, and all you can do is claim insanity. Your problem is you wanted sweet nothings, and naughty, and nothing & naught you deserve as you devalue people; real value is something else. Naughty is sheep-boy telling homosexuals the joy of sheep on another site, and Christians are evil for stopping it; go away pig shit.
@woodsleeps sxephil, a major youtube comment guy supports homosexual & lesbian marriages, even if it means the joy of horses, makes it less likely parents will complain about anyone human, it is where sheep-boy and the joy of neighborly sheep is located. Go join his site, the homosexuals are sure Christians are evil for stopping such things, after all they claim there is no-God, no-sin; and should become mute or lemmings, after they get done redefining language to nothing. God away.
@WOWJBEOWULF I do hate 'Jesus Christ', or, more properly, that particular religious fiction.
In the Bronze Age, they didn't know about schizophrenia, so believed whatever Jesus said. Believe me, I hear it all at work on the wards, every day.
I meet people who are damaged by religion, rent with guilt, confused, hurt.
Which bits of the bible do you like then? What about the bits about genital mutilation? Stoning? Killing babies? Perhaps you are this new sadistic breed of fanatic who does.
@woodsleeps Tell it to someone who cares. You are evil, and you hate everything of Christ. Your hatred of Christians is proof of that, the center is Christ Jesus and never has been different. You are dishonest, and lie about it. You claim such superiority and cannot hold back the desire to oppress and enslave Jesus Christ. I reject everything you claim and say. Pig shit, do not talk to me. This is not the world of opposites, you practice so many fallacies, you hate Christ with everything.
@woodsleeps You should be able to back away from anyone else, you claim atheist; but you demand it obeyed like a religion. You are a divided mind, you claim intelligent, you claim many things, and then turn around and go "obey me, slave." You are going to respect your peers, pig shit. The only way to your brain is through you ass, it has to be made so clear that it is pig shit you evoke. You want sweet nothings, and ruin it with hatred of Christ; nothing you deserve, you devalue people.
Read Exodus 20.21 and then watch this video again.
I'm glad Christians interpret the passages they don't feel good about. Can you imagine the horrible tribal, bronze-aged sense of morals that would come out of a exclusively biblical code of ethics?! Yikes! Secular morality has made life better and better for everyone despite the many objections by the religious throughout history.
It is subjective interpretation of the bible that has led to soooooo many different christian denominations, all with many followers treating their respective denomination's interpretation as objective, divine, indisputable fact. Here's an objective fact for you: The bible is fiction and in no way "holy" or "divine". It is full of metaphor and morals which could help people, much the same way "the little boy who cried wolf" is metaphorical and could help a child...or an adult.
Everyone who is reading this comment, please click on my username for my videos I made about the The Truth of the World. Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Pro 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. Pro 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. Pro 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Pro 29:27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
The bible was writen and rewriten by men....not god.....learn the history of the bible.....really research it....and you will see that the people who put the bible together around 300 BCE were choosing parts to keep in and parts to leave out....hey, kinda like what the Christians do now........well, learn your history and then see how 'holy' your book is.
Yes, even some Christians are aware of this, the part where they chose what books would be in the bible. Doesn't negate the truth or inspired Word of God.
@stumblingguppy 2Pet 1:16-21 (16)For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (20-21) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Men were the 'pen' of Scripture, but it is God who moved the 'pen.'
And of course the internal inconsistency as I mention call into question the idea that God inspired all of the writings contained in the Bible let alone the process of selecting them into it and the process of safeguarding those writings transmission through copyists work over time. All three it turns out have serious issues most Christians are never given enough facts on to realize need to be faced up to.
I thought God was not changing but consistent. But with the things Christians assume God did (specifically perfectly inspiring the content of the writings in the canon & their being put together in it), historically informed people can only conclude such a God was inconsistent. He went to all the trouble to make sure he inspired & got the write books in the collection and THEN aloud them to be tampered w/ in significant ways? Doesn't sound like an enterprise of the God Christians proclaim.
@myintellectualjourny An objective investigation of the history of the Bible will demonstrate that God has indeed preserved his word. Superficial appraisals may provide for fodder against the reliability of the Bible, but they in no way actually prove such assertions. Rather they only demonstrate either the dishonesty or naivete of those that would throw such rhetoric at it.
Like mday2012 said, Paul wrote that God is not an author of confusion (I Cor 14:33).
If this is true, Protestants should question God's inspiring the putting together of the canon - as much as they question his inspiring other acts of the church historically - the pope, crusades, inquisition, etc.
Instead they tend to assume... ow, but God basically made sure they got that one part right ;o)
He didn't however make sure the texts weren't changed including additions to Mark and John and more.
he is not changing.. The old testament was based on the promises of God. In the old days, the prophets would sacrifice a lamb or whatever they could afford. When Jesus came along, the sacrifice went upon him. John the Baptist said "Behold the Lamb of God." The new promise is now in Jesus Christ and that is what saves.. Your argument is weak.. Try reading Romans 4 since you want to quote scripture..
John, I'm aware of the relationship between the New & Old Testament (New & Old Covenant.) I'm a former Christian myself. Unfortunately, that relationship doesn't account for all the changes we see across the texts. For example, several books in Old Testament say there is no afterlife. Few say there is one (Daniel is one example.) Then in the New Testament the idea is taken for granted. This reflects changes in Judaism, humanity, not a god it turns out. Dig deeper & you'll see what I mean.
@myintellectualjourney That there is not a mentioning of an afterlife in some of the OT books in no way allows for the conclusion that it was not believed in. Job, the first written of OT makes mention of it a few times. David, at the death of his son, spoke of someday being with him. That Enoch was suddenly not found is but another mention of an afterlife. Elijah being taken up in a whirlwind is another.
@myintellectualjourny Applying that 1 Corinthian passage outside of its contextual use is to lead to invalid conclusions. The context is speaking of church order. The instances where God has allowed, and even willed confusion, is found in Gen 11 where the Lord confused the languages out of Babel.
The real issue is how often the Bible contradicts itself on issues & its left to believer to figure out how to harmonize it all to some conclusion. Wouldn't you know, genuinely seeking believers familiar w/ the whole of the text can differ on its ultimate meaning? Is it faith w/ out works that saves or by works that must follow faith? Depends on if you ask Paul or James. When did Jesus die? Depends on if you ask Mark or John. Is there an afterlife? Depends on if you ask OT or NT authors.
This is hilarious. Yes, theoretically says theology, God wrote the bible and knows what he meant by it. What he intends to say would be the objective interpretation of the bible's meaning. That's not the same thing as saying that the objective interpretation is actually available/known to human beings. You have the mind of Christ? You & the army of other types of Christians that interpret the bible's message differently. But you're the one w/ the "right" interpretation (just like the rest)
"God is not the author of confusion," (I Corinthians 14:33), yet never has a book produced more confusion than the bible! There are hundreds of denominations and sects, all using the "inspired Scriptures" to prove their conflicting doctrines.
well, you have just given in your comment the very reason for so much disagreement. At least one of the reasons.
The use of passages inadequate to their context and putting your own ideas into it.
It is not the fault of the Bible that we are proud and do not want to submit to it. And a lot of people who are first to speak do not even know the Bible - only few verses that they can twist.
Exactly, masterowa. The Bible is NOT confusing if you READ it. Any book you pick up would be confusing if you just opened it up and read a couple paragraphs here and there. People who don't understand the Bible don't want to.
You hit the nail on the head, mday2012 - if the Bible was in any way an objective text, then there wouldn't be hundreds of different denominations of Christianity, all using the same book to prove that only their interpretation is the correct one. That simple fact makes the claim made in this video utterly ridiculous.
He was a millionaire before he was saved so that boat likely didn't come from his ministry funds as that ministry makes barely enough to keep making videos. He poured much of his earnings from before becoming a Christian into his ministry.
Every day as soon as I wake up I pray to Jesus and thank him for saving me from my sin! Second I pray to the Holy Spirit and thank him for the joy I am about to receive, then I masturbate, all the while glorifying God; especially when I cum, I try to make it land on the floor in the shape of a cross! The I thank God the father for the great feeling and eat breakfast.
Then I pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit in interpretation and read a portion of my Bible. That's my daily routine!
This is true, we cannot be ignorant about what's written in scripture, we cannot interpret the bible to suit our own understanding, we must be guided by The Holy Spirit John 16:13, otherwise the result could be disastrous in the end. GOD bless
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God"
Masturbation is not necessarily a sin. In many cases it is, such as when it is diminished to a form of recreation. However, scripture informs us, if you give your glory to God while doing it, it is blessed.
2Ti 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Ti 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings:....Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Joh 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
My head is going to explode after watching this video and reading all of the comments. I must admit that it is challenging my own conditional means of thinking and beliefs. All of this is very confusing and this one-sided street turns into a two-sided street that goes into a one-sided street then into a turn-around. If prophecies were made and the future was already declared, what was the purpose of all of this? Seriously, I am beating my head against the wall :( Rj
As an Evangelical (non-denominational Baptist) I always enjoy listening to Mark Kieler and Paul Washer with their Calvinist perspectives. While I disagree with the TULIP doctrine, there is much truth to Kieler and Washer and it's refreshing. Thanks for posting all the great vids. God Bless!
I would advise anyone who is a fundamentalist unbeliever to listen to James White debate Bart Ehrman on textual criticism this January. Bart doesn't know what's coming...
I find it interesting that both of you say, "go get yourself 'this book' by 'this guy' and neither say, 'read your Bible.' Well, of course you wouldn't say "read your Bible" because you are under the blanket of deception that states, "God doesn't talk to the common man through the Bible" That statement is a lie. This statement is true: In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
(Titus 1:2)
Is that hard to interpret? How did he promise? Through his word.
Are you positive that James White does not say "Go to your Bible?" and doesn't say where to go to find the answers in there? If you're not, why did you make such a blanket statement including both an unbeliever and a believer in your conclusion?
Let me 'interpret' my comment. facemyvids says, "go read
Mosquito Jeepers by Eart Bhrman. You say, "I would advise anyone who is a fundamentalist unbeliever to listen to James White"
I don't hear you saying listen to God or the other guy saying read the Bible and ask God.
God will not lie if you ask for wisdom. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
So basically are you implying that because I didn't explicitly say "Pick up your Bible, read it, and ask God to converse with you." then I am not advocating what Scripture teaches and leading him in a false way?
Good video. I teach this stuff and it's good to be reminded now and again that I'm not alone. Anti-Bible (read: anti-God) people like this "Slabbers" fellow in the comments are everywhere; we must be ready to battle that level of childish and laughable ignorance at all times.
As if a surface level reading of *anything* brings any good. Deeper study is required for all disciples, otherwise everyone would be a doctor, a Bible scholar, or a lawyer!
Shot to the foot! Everything you said makes perfect sense. Erm, however there is nothing more ridiculous than pretending that there is an objective interpretation of the Bible, considering the constant inconsistencies and contradictions therein. Have you abandoned your family and friends(/boat) and all your possessions yet? Have you redistributed all your wordly goods to the poor? Maybe this video is out of date....
Now, I'm an atheist but I respect the views of others, so now can I ask you a question? And I mean this in the most respectful way, but, why would god necessarily want people to worship him? I'm asking this theologically.
You may. If God is the creator of all things including you, me, and everything that we see, would not the creator be worshiped above all? This is a crude analogy, but think of the latest Apple conference. Do they honor the sales guy or the people who started Apple and sustain it? Obviously the latter. The same applies to the one who started the heavens and the earth and sustains them. (cont...)
Another reason is this: We're all dead in our transgressions against the law (don't steal, lie, covet your neighbor's belongings, etc.) and trespasses. Theologically we're all going to hell because we're born with original sin. If God were to leave us to ourselves, that is our destination. Theologically, though, He hasn't done this. He has elected certain people to salvation and has justly left the rest to themselves.
Belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to escape hell, but so many won't because they can't and don't want to. The ones who do believe, though, necessarily worship God the Father for sending his Son to come here in the flesh and be the appeasement of his wrath to everyone who believes on Him. So, consequently, believers worship God because He's saved them from the wrath that is to come.
Think nothing of it. Respecting other peoples belief is common courtesy. I'm interested in a lot of things to do with religions, I'm not in agreement but this does not mean I'm disrespectful. People who go about telling other people how much they hate certain religions or races are the sort of people we could do without on the internet.
Some language may be colourful, that language is usually more honest than the worthless platitudes that emanate from the mouths of fat cats who profit from religion.
All I say to you is PROVE IT ! Prove to us beyond a doubt that the bible is the word of god, then and only then will the critical thinkers of this world consider your proposition.
If I were to tell you that I have $50, but you didn't believe me, would it affect the validity of the claim? No. The same holds true when we present the evidence that you're dead in your trespasses and sins, but you reject this as evidence of the Bible being true. The validity of the Bible is not contingent upon your acceptance. In short, get over yourself.
Right before I came to approve your comment, I had to delete one on another video that said, "I f***in hate you Christians and Muslims." There is a reason. Professing Atheists don't mind wallowing in their filth because they have no sense that they're actually in it. Ignorance is bliss, eh? Hardly.
What does that mean exactly? I don't deal with ambiguities because the people that usually assert them are intellectual sloths who partake in "hit and run" commenting tactics because what they imply won't stand up to scrutiny, and they know it. It results in a waste of time, but if you'd like to explain what you've said, it would be much appreciated.
I didn't realize my comment was ambiguous quite the opposite I thought. I will admit a bit presumptuous on my part so I apologize if I offended you. However you did start off hanging around on a nice boat in the keys not to forget your TV production and ministries while at the same time you title the video in a way as to tell me how to treat the bible. Now I don't know what's worse, treating it like art or as a tool to afford you the things you have, hence the presumption, which again Iapologize
Well, there's another presumption that you've acted upon, too. I am not the man in the video. The man's name is Mark Kielar. His back story is that he became a millionaire in business before he was a believer. After years of unbelief, he still had all this money and decided to pour it into the video ministry (which doesn't make much profit). As far as having a boat, it isn't a sin to make money by working and buy something. I would hope you do that weekly.
Perhaps you should actually know what it is you're setting out to debunk before you endeavor to debunk it in the future. It would have saved you from looking foolish here if you would have done a little background info before acting on your false assumptions.
Maybe "debunk" wasn't the best choice of word. "Discredit" would have been better. Regardless, I hope you understand the point. I'm not saying this to spite you. I once acted on presumption, too. In fact, I got in a fight with a close friend yesterday because we both were acting on presumption. We realized our error after discussing it and reconciled. I only tell you this to help.
Ok. Here is a video, ( Money Church Scams_Vol.1)by RINGO4LIFE, I found that touches on where I was coming from and also to your response "which doesn't make much profit." It's in my nature to question where people are coming from and their agendas. It makes me wonder why a successful business man would venture into what you describe as, "which doesn't make much profit." I admit I know nothing about this individual but this does not take away from my nature to question or take away from the idea.
Right, and questioning isn't wrong. I question all the time. I hear sermons often that if I wasn't to question, I'd be led into great error so I don't take everything I hear with the term "Christian" as being fact and what the Bible teaches. The error comes not when we question, but when we accept assumption as being true without scrutinizing the position to see if it is so. Professing Christians do this often, too. Questioning is healthy, but acting upon presumption is not.
If we are ignorant on a particular topic whether it be music, movies, computers, spear fishing or scrap book making, no matter what, it helps to have someone who is more knowledgeable in the subject to explain it. Thousands of books have been written about what the Holy Bible says, and a lot of human interpretation has gone into them. I think only the Holy Spirit of God within us can lead us in the right direction to know the truth, but it's best to go to the source, the Holy Bible.
Simply brilliant! I like the way he introduced it in a way even I could get. The subjective handling of the Scriptures is something I know all too way, growing up in a hyper-Pentecostal background. Thus one preacher has this interpretation and another preacher has his own, yet both are supposedly right...
This is a very obvious and godly teaching. The scary thing is that many Christians realize this but continue to use interpretation of scripture rather than scripture itself. I've proclaimed this truth with many around me but face replies like "who says that your interpretation is correct?" in which I reply "scripture needs NO interpretation". Of course it's important to consider context always. It appears to offend my bro and sis's in Christ and I feel that I am viewed as a bigot. Any advice?
I don't treat the bible like I treat food or art. Food is useful. Art is entertaining.

@metrx330 where does it say that in the bible?

@Pacslyf Levticus chapter 11 - Just after YHWH calls homosexuality a sin. "But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination.

@WOWJBEOWULF Au contraire, I have read the bible from cover to cover. I studied it for around 25 years.
The reason I refrain from quoting it AT you, is because I don't need to. Your pathetic claims and ad hominem insults aren't worth refuting.
As a greater person that I said "that which can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof".
Ps 24: "Fling wide those gates, fling wide ye ancient doors"... nothing could be further from the reality of the christian mindset.

@woodsleeps Jesus Christ: "All men will hate you because of me." and "The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil." @WOWJBEOWULF I do hate 'Jesus Christ', or, more properly, that particular religious fiction.

BrooklynRagtag 1 year ago
It is subjective interpretation of the bible that has led to soooooo many different christian denominations, all with many followers treating their respective denomination's interpretation as objective, divine, indisputable fact. Here's an objective fact for you: The bible is fiction and in no way "holy" or "divine". It is full of metaphor and morals which could help people, much the same way "the little boy who cried wolf" is metaphorical and could help a child...or an adult.

The bible was writen and rewriten by men....not god.....learn the history of the bible.....really research it....and you will see that the people who put the bible together around 300 BCE were choosing parts to keep in and parts to leave out....hey, kinda like what the Christians do now........well, learn your history and then see how 'holy' your book is.
stumblingguppy 2 years ago
Yes, even some Christians are aware of this, the part where they chose what books would be in the bible. Doesn't negate the truth or inspired Word of God.

johnpolanco18 2 years ago
And of course the internal inconsistency as I mention call into question the idea that God inspired all of the writings contained in the Bible let alone the process of selecting them into it and the process of safeguarding those writings transmission through copyists work over time. All three it turns out have serious issues most Christians are never given enough facts on to realize need to be faced up to.
myintellectualjourny 2 years ago
I thought God was not changing but consistent. But with the things Christians assume God did (specifically perfectly inspiring the content of the writings in the canon & their being put together in it), historically informed people can only conclude such a God was inconsistent. He went to all the trouble to make sure he inspired & got the write books in the collection and THEN aloud them to be tampered w/ in significant ways? Doesn't sound like an enterprise of the God Christians proclaim.
myintellectualjourny 2 years ago
@myintellectualjourny An objective investigation of the history of the Bible will demonstrate that God has indeed preserved his word. Superficial appraisals may provide for fodder against the reliability of the Bible, but they in no way actually prove such assertions. Rather they only demonstrate either the dishonesty or naivete of those that would throw such rhetoric at it.
HermitintheRain 1 year ago
Like mday2012 said, Paul wrote that God is not an author of confusion (I Cor 14:33).
If this is true, Protestants should question God's inspiring the putting together of the canon - as much as they question his inspiring other acts of the church historically - the pope, crusades, inquisition, etc.
Instead they tend to assume... ow, but God basically made sure they got that one part right ;o)
He didn't however make sure the texts weren't changed including additions to Mark and John and more.
myintellectualjourny 2 years ago
he is not changing.. Try reading Romans 4 since you want to quote scripture..
johnpolanco18 2 years ago
John, I'm aware of the relationship between the New & Old Testament (New & Old Covenant.) I'm a former Christian myself. Unfortunately, that relationship doesn't account for all the changes we see across the texts. For example, several books in Old Testament say there is no afterlife. Few say there is one (Daniel is one example.) Then in the New Testament the idea is taken for granted. This reflects changes in Judaism, humanity, not a god it turns out. Dig deeper & you'll see what I mean.
myintellectualjourny 2 years ago
@myintellectualjourney That there is not a mentioning of an afterlife in some of the OT books in no way allows for the conclusion that it was not believed in. Job, the first written of OT makes mention of it a few times. David, at the death of his son, spoke of someday being with him. That Enoch was suddenly not found is but another mention of an afterlife. Elijah being taken up in a whirlwind is another.
HermitintheRain 1 year ago
@myintellectualjourny Applying that 1 Corinthian passage outside of its contextual use is to lead to invalid conclusions. The context is speaking of church order. The instances where God has allowed, and even willed confusion, is found in Gen 11 where the Lord confused the languages out of Babel.
HermitintheRain 1 year ago
The real issue is how often the Bible contradicts itself on issues & its left to believer to figure out how to harmonize it all to some conclusion. Wouldn't you know, genuinely seeking believers familiar w/ the whole of the text can differ on its ultimate meaning? Is it faith w/ out works that saves or by works that must follow faith? Depends on if you ask Paul or James. When did Jesus die? Depends on if you ask Mark or John. Is there an afterlife? Depends on if you ask OT or NT authors.
myintellectualjourny 2 years ago
This is hilarious. Yes, theoretically says theology, God wrote the bible and knows what he meant by it. What he intends to say would be the objective interpretation of the bible's meaning. That's not the same thing as saying that the objective interpretation is actually available/known to human beings. You have the mind of Christ? You & the army of other types of Christians that interpret the bible's message differently. But you're the one w/ the "right" interpretation (just like the rest)

"God is not the author of confusion," (I Corinthians 14:33), yet never has a book produced more confusion than the bible! There are hundreds of denominations and sects, all using the "inspired Scriptures" to prove their conflicting doctrines.
mday2012 2 years ago
well, you have just given in your comment the very reason for so much disagreement. At least one of the reasons.
The use of passages inadequate to their context and putting your own ideas into it.
It is not the fault of the Bible that we are proud and do not want to submit to it. And a lot of people who are first to speak do not even know the Bible - only few verses that they can twist.
masterowa 2 years ago
Exactly, masterowa. The Bible is NOT confusing if you READ it. Any book you pick up would be confusing if you just opened it up and read a couple paragraphs here and there. People who don't understand the Bible don't want to.
carolineislands 2 years ago
You hit the nail on the head, mday2012 - if the Bible was in any way an objective text, then there wouldn't be hundreds of different denominations of Christianity, all using the same book to prove that only their interpretation is the correct one. That simple fact makes the claim made in this video utterly ridiculous.

GOD bless
Zechariah46 3 years ago
Is masturbation a sin? Let us look to The Bible.
In Romans 6:13, it is written:
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God"
Masturbation is not necessarily a sin. In many cases it is, such as when it is diminished to a form of recreation. However, scripture informs us, if you give your glory to God while doing it, it is blessed.

I find it interesting that both of you say, "go get yourself 'this book' by 'this guy' and neither say, 'read your Bible.' Well, of course you wouldn't say "read your Bible" because you are under the blanket of deception that states, "God doesn't talk to the common man through the Bible" That statement is a lie. This statement is true: In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
(Titus 1:2)
Is that hard to interpret? How did he promise? Through his word.
mmymac 3 years ago
Are you positive that James White does not say "Go to your Bible?" and doesn't say where to go to find the answers in there? If you're not, why did you make such a blanket statement including both an unbeliever and a believer in your conclusion?
LaneCh 3 years ago
Let me 'interpret' my comment. facemyvids says, "go read
Mosquito Jeepers by Eart Bhrman. You say, "I would advise anyone who is a fundamentalist unbeliever to listen to James White"
I don't hear you saying listen to God or the other guy saying read the Bible and ask God.
God will not lie if you ask for wisdom. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
(Matthew 7:11)
mmymac 3 years ago
So basically are you implying that because I didn't explicitly say "Pick up your Bible, read it, and ask God to converse with you." then I am not advocating what Scripture teaches and leading him in a false way?

Now, I'm an atheist but I respect the views of others, so now can I ask you a question? And I mean this in the most respectful way, but, why would god necessarily want people to worship him? I'm asking this theologically.
ScienceDalek 3 years ago 2
(cont...)
LaneCh 3 years ago
Another reason is this: We're all dead in our transgressions against the law (don't steal, lie, covet your neighbor's belongings, etc.) and trespasses. Theologically we're all going to hell because we're born with original sin. If God were to leave us to ourselves, that is our destination. Theologically, though, He hasn't done this. He has elected certain people to salvation and has justly left the rest to themselves.
(cont...)
LaneCh 3 years ago

Prove to us beyond a doubt that the bible is the word of god, then and only then will the critical thinkers of this world consider your proposition.
mahballsarefine 3 years ago

Hardly.
LaneCh 3 years ago

I was not trying to debunk anything, just making an observation.
shaybshay 3 years ago

Love the title "Don't Treat the Bible Like You Treat Food or Art." It appears treating it as a source of revenue is working well for you.

Isn't "identifying His meaning," your interpretation of what He means? This kind of confused me on a few levels, even as a Christian.

I, as an atheist, endorse this message. :)

Kielar is too close-minded; if he just gave scrap booking a chance, he'd probably enjoy it. ;] Great video.

Any advice?

Excellent vid, Lane. This is such an important issue both in the church and outside the church as we deal with unbelievers. God bless, brother.
