  • How about "Thats my faith i don`t care if you question it"

  • In Isaiah it talks about the world being round(Isaiah 40:22).

  • He's not atheist, he's agnostic.

  • The Bible actually says that the world is round, when science at the time said it was flat.

  • No, quite the opposite, the bible was written by people who thought the earth was flat.

  • religious people are modern day witch burners, the people who thought the world was flat....I've been nothing but a bitch in my life, but good things continue to happen to me-there is no god!

  • The mans a genius...

  • If I make up some 'nonsense' and create rules for it and then ask people to discuss it, it does not really matter what the discussion comes up with, as at the end of the day its going to be a discussion of 'nonsense'. Then the 'nonsense' creates new 'nonsense' and this goes on into various, deeper levels, until people forget the true originating 'nonsense' and argue about the new levels...irrespective of it all its talk about 'nonsense'. For nonsense supplant religion.

  • At first, I didn't want to read Richard Dawkin's book, but now I do.

  • "Firstly, why, if species have descended from other species by insensibly fine gradations, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitional forms? Why is not all nature in confusion instead of the species being, as we see them, well defined?" Charles R. Darwin,

    The Origin of Species

  • There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death...Prov 14:12

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools...Rom 1:22

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse...Rom 1:20

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."

Hmm? I wonder who is right? dawkins will be reduced to nothing!

  • Where does Dawkins say he is more than nothing now? He's an atheist, presumably he believes we have no value beyond what we assign ourselves. After all, aren't your religious fantasies all focused on your own importance? You even think it matters whether or not you go to church/eat halal meat/eat fish on Fridays. You have a religion because you need to make yourself centre-stage in a world that revolves around them. Doesn't make it true though.

  • Just like your ability to think..

  • whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

  • I love everything he wrote. The problem is that he appears not to understand sparticles. These are not on a verbal basis. But maybe he does, who knows?

  • 24 Correct me, LORD, but only with justice— not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing

  • 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

hes right bush's reign is almost over the lord is coming!!

  • 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

hes right bush's reign is almost over the lord is coming!!

  • 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

  • Logic: simply a way of going wrong with confidence.

  • you are my idol. thank you for being onest and truthful. best regards, jasmin.

  • I believe in science and evolution but am also a christian, and for once i would like to see him back up his ideas about religion not being true.

He's also making religous people out to be like Hitler- i think we should let people beleiver what they beleive. It's Like he can't see why people beleive.

I respect scientists views, but i think he talks alot of rubbish sometimes.

I mean, how do we know that all philosophy is right?

  • You are very clearly scared that what you have learned to be true (evolution) may trump what you have wrongly been taught. it is not rubbish, and it is just very easy to say it is wrong without giving any reason to why it may be.

  • "you simply need to read a book and rethink about things" a good comment maybe try reading Richard's book and a mystical book and you will see that his book has much more logical scene then a ancient creation story or If you prefer, ask why we are on this plannet.

  • You know it takes more faith to say there is no God than what it takes to belive in God.

  • The "realistic picture" is that Mr. Dawkins will eventually expire and this life will be all he has to look forward to.

  • The theory is nice, however, in praxis all atheistic regimes have been as bad or worse than religious regimes. Religious freedom is really the best we can obtain.

Hitler built his theories on Darwin; how far the nazis went in their atrocities show the danger of extreme faith in science.

  • This is incorrect on a number of points:

    1. There are very few, if any, truly atheistic regimes. The closest you can come to it are regimes that have opposed Church intrusion and banned religion.

    2. Even if we accept the concept of atheistic regimes, you would have a hard time proven that their penchant for violence and cruelty has been anything like those of religious societies.

    3. Hitler believed in God. In fact he thought he was under divine protection.

  • 1. What about the Sovjet Union? and Communist China?

    2. In China arguments very similar to those of Prof. Dawkins, i.e. that religious people are crazy and inferior, are used to suppress the minorities that are religious in the most atrocious fashion! Check out the litterature on the Cultural Revolution, please - or current day Amnesty International...

    3. Maybe Hitler did believe in God, however, the holocaust was inspired primarily by the theories of Darwin...

  • As i said, neither regime you mention is truly atheistic but rather oppose religion and especially organised religion as they see it as a challenge to their authoritarian ways. In many ways they are similarly absolutist.

It is hard to psycoanalyse Hitler but his obscene views of Jewish people seems to be that they were not human - this is nothing to do with evolution. He did believe in the divine right of the arian race but much of this came from Nietzche's Superman.

  • OK, so Hitler was strongly inspired by Charles Darwin and Friedrich Nietzsche - undoubtedly the two most famous atheists of the 19th century.

I have nothing against Darwin, and I find evolution highly plausible, however, Prof. Dawkins is stirring the wrong debate with "religion = bad" vs "atheism = good". The right debate is between religious freedom good vs intolerance against religion bad! The latter of course includes intolerance against atheism.

  • a yes Atheism... belive in what ever you want as long as you belive in what i say ^^

  • well said

  • Where did you find that strawman?

  • I thought the interview was rather one-sided. God was invited to appear on the programme but declined.

  • Great point ;)

  • Now that's an intelligent response.

  • lol, you can tell he got bummed by a priest

  • Absolute hero.

Richard Dawkins has done more for Atheism than jesus did for christianity.

  • I attribute his perceived arrogance to his accent and his confidence in stating that other worldviews are unreasonable. At least he isn't abrasive like many activist atheists. The secular humanist/atheist community could use a good spokesperson. And to influence undecided Americans, we'd probably need an American.

  • 5:14 - 5:34

    great point

  • He is not Richard Dawkins. He is RETARD DAWKINS

  • You stole that line from God's last podcast

  • Well aren't you mature.

  • The last crusade was before 1700. That's is more than 300 years back. FYI, today is 2007. Ask someone if you don't trust me.

The guys from Belfast aren't getting along, I agree. So what that has to have about religion? Occupation is different than religion.

While in the mean time, just today another Iraqi car blew up, killing 11 Iraqis, and 14 policemen were found dead. Just because some of them are Sunni or Shia. This IS sectarian killing.

  • Religion is Bullshit.

  • SO DOES ATHEISM...LOL

  • Why don't you talk about Quran also? I never heard about an "extremist" Christian going to blew himself up, or sectarian killings in Christianity.

The only fundamentalists with issues are muslim guys.

  • "sectarian killings in christianity" because Catholics and Protestant get along swimmingly just ask the residents of belfast.

  • How about...you're retarded. I haven't heard in this century, but I do recall the Christian crusades quite accuarately. Not to mention Christianity itself has no evidence whatsoever.

  • Clerihew12, I forgive you for being so insensitive and mean to me and others here who are trying to have a decent debate over that which nobody can prove except me. Now if you are going to be on my channel, I politely am requesting you to behave, and speak, like an adult. And get that pustule checked. Thanks.

  • Oh, I'm sorry. Was I mean to you? Poor little baby...

  • There you go being mean again. If I have to wipe away another tear because of you, I am going to be a little more than pushed out of shape. Now...where were we? Oh yeah..your giant pustule. Get that thing checked. Thanks.

  • Atheists are closer to God than Fundamentalists. I congratulate all Atheists for not having blind faith. It is people like you who God loves and respects. I speak for God, because I know Her. The Book of Knowledge has been opened from within my heart. C'mon - give me some love...

  • Another steaming pile of horse manure...keep piling it on paramchi.

  • A few hundred years ago Earth was thought to be the center of the uniiverse, and the Sun, Moon and stars revolved around it. Our Creator wished us to pray and thank Him/Her/It for our existance. We now know that the Earth is but a grain of sand on a very large beach. If I had created such a beach I wouldn't be concerned what a few billion microbes crawling on one grain of sand thought of me. But-hey, that's just me!

  • If the Muslims are correct then we will all be judged by our good and bad deeds. You people are just looking for excuses not to worship your creator. Stop trying to pretend to understand God and be loving and kind toward one another like God commanded. Jesus said, "Whatever you do unto the least of my bretheren you do unto me." "I was naked you gave me clothes, I was hungry you gave me food."

  • Upon awakening, God ascends the solar plexus from sacrum bone, (Latin-Sacred) and pierces Fontanelle bone area, (soft spot as infants-Latin-Fountain) and God can be felt ON THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM as a cool breeze at the top of head and palms of hands. If Dawkins were to attain this experience, he wouldn't argue. Trick is: one has to sincerely desire it; if the balloon of ego is blocking the gateway to Heaven on Earth, there is no hope.

  • Oh, hello? head up your bottom again paranchi? keep taking the pills - there's a good boy.

  • Uh...head in your tail again carsonofmars? Have another drink...and, uh, nice stooping to this bottom feeder level with you...there's a nice boy.

  • Stay up there with the fairies my dear boy. Look, sorry if I offended you but I thought what you wrote was a good joke, I mean all the mumbo jumbo stuff about feeling God or something on your head? Look, tell me where I can get hold of what medication you are taking - I know people who will pay lots of money to get to where you are!

  • It's there for the taking if you want it. Something tells me, though, that you won't want it since you've become so angry with life. The ball is in your court - but know this, God isn't going to come begging to give you your enlightenment while you sit on your throne. You have to be humble to receive it.

  • Your condescension is as unjustified as usual, paramchi. I really think it would be impossible for a human being to be more stupid and more annoying than you are. I really, really do.

  • Uh...and the stink of your presence nauseates me...and..uh...when you look in the mirror - then - the mirror must be disgusted. And, uh...you probably have pustules of acne on your face...I know you do. Oh, and, um...you are stupid and annoying too. More than me. Really. Good luck. Thanks. Yeah, thanks.

  • Ooo, good comeback...attack my physical appearance when you've never even seen me. Real witty, pal. God, you are such a tool! (And what's with all the "uh"s and "um"s? There must be some purpose to them, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered typing them. What could it be, I wonder?)

  • Uh...you started it. And you are a tool too. A bigger tool than me. If I was a hammer - you would be a...uh...sledgehammer. Thanks. Yeah, thanks. Really. Thank you. Mr. Tool. With acne pustules.

  • Uh...you're an idiot. Your insults are desperate and...uh....pathetic. You can't criticize someone's personal appearence if...um...you've never seen them, you imbecile. Thanks. Yeah, thanks. Really. Thank you.

With all your esoteric spiritual knowledge, your lack of ego and insight into the universe...and the best you can come up with is accusing me of having acne?!

  • You have acne. Pustules. I see with my heart - in reality. As opposed to my eyes - for the senses are liars. Nothing is as it seems. Ask Heisenberg. Mr. Acne Pustule. With an ugly thing growing out of your head. Thanks. Really. I mean it this time. Thank you. Please tip your waitress. Thanks.

  • You better hope that "nothing is as it seems." Because it seems to me, and everyone else here, that you're an utter ass.

What's with this "thanks" bullshit? Is there a purpose to it, or is it just to annoy me?

I see with my heart...a nasty, yeast-infected, discharge-smeared vagina where your face should be! Ooo, this is fun! Let's see what other unfounded speculations about your physical appearance I can indulge in!

  • ..uh..I, um...wow. I just want to say...uh...wow. Ok, well, congrats and good luck with that giant pimple with pustules growing out of it, and ... uh...get back to me on that will ya? Alrighty then..um. Wow.

  • um..uh..go fuck yourself...uh...wow.

  • uh...go and screw yourself too...um, wow. Yeah. Thanks. No really - thanks. And um, I...uh...wow. Thank you. Really. I really mean it. And have that globular pustule checked will ya? I worry about you. Thanks. And please - tip your waitress. Thanks. Wow.

  • Ok thanks for the typical religious avoidance of the question. I will be a believer the day i see some physical evidence of god's existence. It hasn't happened, and that is why people like you are unable to give a real answer to a simple question.

  • The famous painting of the Saints at Pentacost has them with "tongues of fire" - at the tops of their heads. Fontanelle=Fountain. "There is a fountain not made by the hands of man". The "Halo". The Sahasrara, or thousand petalled lotus...Snow White and the 7 dwarfs, (the Goddess and the 7 Chakras), 7 stars in Book of Revelations...

  • how old is this man..and he's telling us what to think and do,not that I'm christian i just see him as an outspoken athiest

  • he's a scientist. He was written several books specifically about science. He has also decided to write a few about the existance of god based on what he sees as the truth from his scientific viewpoint.. you ask how old he is.. how old would have to be for you to respect his opinions based on his age? How old would make him wise enough?

  • Just more signs of the end times. Dawkins will beg for god when he's on his death bed. And when he finally passes, he will stand before judgement just as everyone else, what will he say then? "Oops."

  • As Dawkins himself points out, religious people rarely consider themselves to be wrong. I assume ,Irhex, that you are a Christian. Will you say 'oops' if it turns out after death that 1.6 billion Muslims are correct, and that Christianity is wrong? No you won't, because this will never happen: you will simply be dead.

  • actually, acording to christianity if he begs before god on his death bed(repents) he will be forgiven.. so he wouldn't be saying oops.. but as was allready said.. he will say nothing, because he will be dead.

  • 'britain always has been' ready for an attack on religion? excuse me? what? haha

  • fantastic

  • This man is a fool!! The fool says in his heart there is no GOD!

  • Matthew 5:22, "but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."

    *coughcough*

  • It's not me saying it buddy. It's God. It says a fool denies God in Psalm 100!!!

And Matthew 5:22 is about denying the gospel of Christ, not just calling someone a fool just because you feel like it!

    cough

    cough

    cough!

  • I do believe in God but I am not a fanatic. I do not believe every single word of the bible. I cheery pick as Richard Dawkins puts it. No matter how you feel about Richard there is no denying his logic.

  • There is no denying there is no logic in Dawkins Delusion. England is a socialist country on it's last leg, and they are using that Satanist to try to destroy the faith of Americans. Satan is no fool and can appear as an 'intellectual' if he so chooses, but the Whore of Babylon is recognized!

  • Gosh, another enlightened comment from yet another insecure dumb American. England socialist - Funny. Please grow up or you will be anally probed by some kind of area 51 UFO thingy that you terminally prepubescent idiots believe in. why don't you read some books instead of lying around masturbating over mythological invisible friends - give me the Whore of Babylon any day over the company of a dumb American, at least you can probably have a half decent conversation!

  • All it takes is some kind of evidence of god's existence and people like Dawkins will hold their hands up and admit they were wrong. Why hasn't this evidence arrived? After all, an omni-present 'creator' would presumably be aware of the atheist movement and wish to set the record straight.

  • Oops, of course Mythbusters, I thought you said he's gonna do an episode on a podcast show.

  • oh no, he was just being interviewed on a skepticality podcast episode about mythbusers.

  • Which episode, I wanna hear it.

  • It was from a recent somewhat informal interview.. he just said they were going to do it.. he didn't anounce when.. I'll be staying tuned for that though.

  • Ahh, I just heard it coincidently, on the latest Skepticality, but I wonder how they're going to fit it into the theme of the show, and without controversy.

  • I was wondering the same thing.. they allways say they get tons of angry mail when they don't prove an experiment to viewers liking.. I could really only imagine about that one.. they could get alot of people angry at them. But it would still be awesome.

  • I just heard an amazing thing. I was listening to a pod cast with Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame and he said he was going to do a natural selection episode! He said he's tired of half the country believing in creation so he was going to tackle it on the show once and for all. That should be interesting.

  • Of what show?

  • Amazing! I love mythbusters, and natural selection, lol!

  • If all the vaguely religious people were to become nonreligious, that would put the deeply religious at a significant minority. Even if they can't be persuaded, by persuading the masses you can take away their power.

I think the only realistic not-so-distant future goal for atheists is to eventually make religion comparable to something like astrology.

  • I found him illogical.

He wants to change the mind of vaguely religious people but doesnt think he can change "really deeply religious" people. But isnt it the vaguely religious people that are already open-eyed and realistic and the deeply religious poeple are the ones fuelling war and abusing children...?

he effectively concluded that his new book doesnt do much.

I think the only realistic not-so-distant future goal for atheists is to eventually make religion comparable to something like astrology.

  • It makes sense to me... He said he would love to change the mind of everyone but that would be too ambitious. What he is hoping for is to move over the people on the fence. He has to start somewhere. ALOT of people are on the fence. Alot of people who claim they are whatever religion or they are christian but no longer catholic or religious but believe in evolution need to start actually thinking about these things. His book helps them do this.

  • Didn't really answer anything interesting much did he? Even the last question was quite simple and standard, arr well

  • Darwin's ideas are absolute BS.You have to believe in miracles to go for this sucker deal. A heart/lung/blood vessel/blood/nerve/brain system cannot possibly evolve in small steps. Adam and Eve are the same; pure fantasy. It is not possible that species arrived by either scenario. Why does this dumbell think that if you don't believe in Darwin, you must believe religion did it. Time to look somewhere else!

  • Read a book on evolution, then come back and apologize for your ignorance.

  • I used to be a sucker believer like you. I did read and study evolution and cosmology. Sorry, but there are just so many things that can't possibly evolve in small steps that it is ridiculous. People like you believe this nonsense because lots of people do, not because it makes any sense. The god of evolution is "millions of years" the prophet is Darwin; no different than religions. Read it yourself, and do some independent thinking, rather than just believing.

  • stevebee92653:

Brilliant satire of creationsts' attempts at turning the argument back on the evolutionists. "I used to be a sucker believer" - Hilarious! "People like you believe this nonsense because lots of people do" - cheeky! "The God of evolution" - OK, this one is rather trite. "Do some independent thinking" - LOL!

Anyway, way to go, buddy! Excellent lampooning! Can you imagine how stupid someone would have to be to actually posit this as legitimate criticism? Ha Ha!

  • Cler: What in my writing could possibly make you think I am a creationist? I guess your brain hasn't evolved enough to think clearly and logically. Way to go buddy. You are a typical evolution sucker. You make huge conclusions out of nothing.

  • Going against both creationism and evolution is pretty shrewd. You make yourself out to be an independent thinker, an anti-establishment rebel, etc. and you don't have to risk anything to do so. By simply rejecting everything, you don't suffer the inconvenience of committing to anything. From this smug vantage point, you get to accuse everybody else of being a "sucker."

If you can offer a plausible alternative to evolution, I'd love to hear it.

  • No difference between religion and evolution? Are you really that ignorant? Evolution is based on scientific evidence, and the reason that Dawkins and millions of others believe in it is because it is the best explanation of how we got here that currently exists. Religion is not based on evidence or testable hypotheses. If you seriously believe that the two are comparable then i would take a good look at those study materials of yours.

  • Evolution is based on millions of layers IMAGINATION, not science, EXACTLY the same as religion. If evolution were real, it would be all over the place today. You would still see fish crawling out of the oceans. Why did it only occur when no one could see it? Kinda like Moses getting the ten commandments. No one could see the event, but lots of believers out there. No diff.

  • You jackass, evolution IS happening all around us today. It's just happening very gradually. Nature isn't obligated to provide your feeble mind with dramatic instances like fish crawling out of the oceans (which you wouldn't notice anyway, since it's an exceedingly rare occurrence).

Evolution is based on observation. If you can't see it, or aren't willing to see it, then that's your loss.

  • Why is it that ev believers are so quick to call doubters names? Is it that you can't argue intelligently due to your brain not sufficiently evolving? Fish crawling out of the oceans is a non-occurrence. Not in the fossil record, not happening today. But, keep BELIEVING, and never think on your own! Keep looking "all around us". Let me know if you find anything!

  • Listen, ass-clown, evolution is an ongoing process. It is happening right now, it is always happening. Just because something is not in the fossil record doesn't mean it didn't happen. Just because you didn't see something doesn't mean it didn't happen. Cut this bullshit about evolutionists being brainwashed, it's laughable.

I call you names because you deserve to be called names. What's more, you'll take it and like it.

  • Hey, you are one bright guy! I guess you went to a good school, attended all your lessons and did your homework on time too! Please don't disapoint me and say, no, you're just another dumb idiot! Heart/lung/eye, whatever... can't evolve in small steps? Are you really stupid or is this a joke?

  • If you are so goddamm smart, let me know how a heart/lung set can evolve. You can't, and neither can fake evolution scientists like Dawkins. Ev "scientists" say a throat gene mutated and copied itself and formed another throat that turned into a heart. If you can believe this, you can believe ANYTHING. What would it pump, Kool-Aid? How did it "grow" vessels, connect to the brain? Where did the blood come from. Obviously you are a believer, so writing this is a useless effort.

  • Of course i can't tell you because evolution wasn't a one day event. It's a continual process that has happened over billions of years. It's funny how you're quite happy to criticise existing theories without offering your own. Just because you don't have the capacity to understand something doesn't mean it couldn't have happened.

  • If it's a continual process, where is it today? Non-existent. Darwin's theory is not possible. (Of course neither is religion's.) I used to be a believer in Darwin. Afer doing a great deal of studying and seeing the bullshit, I have absolutely no idea how "it" began. On that note, I am a dumb idiot, like you said. And you are a blind faith believer. I would rather be a dumb idiot. I can think on my own.

  • I told you, you stupid clown, evolution is observable even today. You just don't want to see it because you're an obtuse pain in the ass. I question the quality of your "studying." You have "absolutely no idea how 'it' began?" Well, do some more studying!

I'm glad you agree with me. You are a dumb idiot. Enjoy your "independent thinking" (excuse me while I collapse in hysterical laughter)...

  • Are you hallucinating? Where is it today? A moth that changes color? Bacteria that are not sensitive to Penicillin? That's what Dawkins would say is today's evolution. You question my "studying", but not what evolution fakes tell you? I'm glad you know how life began as you are the only one in world who does, beside the religious. So keep believing! Adios. You are not worth my time.

  • "A moth that changes color," "bacteria that are not sensitive to Penicillin" - what's wrong with these examples? These are perfectly compelling instances of natural selection. No wonder you won't accept evolution. It's staring you right in your moronic face and you dismiss it. Why? I don't know, maybe because you're a giant asshole?

  • The moth and bacteria are examples of evolution that would produce hearts, lungs, and eyes? Right! I believe that! Makes sense to me. I believe that as much as I believe in the big invisible man in the sky. And, please keep up with the great array of names that you have called me. You seem so intelligent!

  • Who said anything about moths and bacteria producing organs? What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you not understand English? Or are you just retarded?

  • Don't flatter yourself, pal. If one can draw conclusions from your posts, your time is worthless. Worse than that, it's deleterious to humanity as a whole. Please, do us all a favor, and kill yourself!

  • Me critically looking at "evolution science" is deleterious to HUMANITY AS A WHOLE? WOW! That's the greatest compliment I have ever had. Really. I had no idea that I was that important. Thanks!

  • If you're desperate for "compliments," there's plenty more where that came from...

  • You must enjoy making yourself seem stupid. Or are you just putting us on? Every animal breeder knows first hand how it works. Man-caused. EVOLUTION speeded up. Men grab the problem by the tail (so to speak) and conjure up a poodle from a wolf. It ain't that mystical, Steve.

  • The first email question: HAHAHAHA Muhammad and his bomb analogy. Freudian slip? ;)

  • Dawkins stoned those questions. Bravo

  • No, I don't see human as only biological beings; that was my point. I agree with you - we do choose all the time, and biology can't really explain why we choose something we don't gain from in a biological sense. It can't explain altruism. At least I don't think it can.

  • Richard Dawkins wrote a book about it, and did a documentry about it. The selfish gene, and nice guys finish first.

  • Well, he did have to modify his theory though to 'the un-selfish selfish gene'...

  • I think it's interesting that he's using a religious quote to recommend non-religious ethical norms of living: "Do unto others, as you would want done unto you". And he did it twice! :) Anyway, nobody is perfect...

  • Look up a few messages, have a look at what "arsamor" said and the replies to that and your confusion is cleared! :)

  • I had a go at trying to find the posts you mentioned, but I gave up since it wasn't one of the lastest, and not one of the oldest posts (and I don't have the time to look more). I'm not confused though. I just think he's a funny guy - and not particularly thoughtful.

  • Ah ok. Well, if you press Ctrl+F you will be able to type the word you wish to search for in the box that appears and press "find" or "find next" it will go straight to that word, no need to go laboriously searching through all the posts.

But in short "Do unto others, as you would want done unto you" is not originally an Islamic reference. (or Christian or Jewish, which ever one you meant, because they all use it) :)

  • Thank you! That helped (Ctrl+F). Yes, I do agree with 'arsamor'. I even hear Dawkins say that we shouldn't organise our society according to biological laws, 'survival of the fittest etc' for that wouldn't make for a particulalrly nice society.

Why should biology care for how society develops? From a biological point of view life does what it needs to do to survive, so why should we interfere?

He's contradicting himself, as he often does.

  • So cultures without books dictating ethical rules tend to still have basically the same ethical rules. For example the ancient Greeks did not seem to have any stringent rules passed from the gods about ethics, yet they had a pretty advanced culture of ethics.

    "shibumi81 (1 month ago)

It's also from the words of Buddha, Aristotle, Socrates, Hinduism, and Plato. -All much older than Jesus of Nazareth. And Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world."

  • Yes, the Mahabharata (Hinduism) also has the golden rule.

I think it has to do with 'culture' in the sense of cultured behaviour. We have a lower and higher self, and if we follow the higher self we treat other as we would like to be treated. This propensity is within every human being. But I don't think you can explain this behaviour with biology. But I might be wrong... It has happened before. :)

  • The golden rule comes from philosophy not religion. It is found in religion because it was copy and pasted.

  • "The golden rule comes from philosophy not religion. It is found in religion because it was copy and pasted."

Aaaahhhh, very cute:) I would enjoy your explanation.

  • The "golden rule", in various forms, could easily have been copy and pasted from ancient (pre-Jesus) philosophy throughout the world to make it seem like Jesus coined the idea. Simply Google search the "golden rule" and it becomes apparent that religion does not have a monopoly on the simple concept of treating others, as you would wish for yourself. It is a concept of ethics, a branch of philosophy, not religion.

  • The golden rule is in the Mahabharata and that is definitely pre-Jesus. It's about following your higher instincts which every human being can do. So yes, you don't need religion to do that. What religion can do sometimes (not all religions are particularly philosophical) is to explain why this is so.

  • Dawkins explanation of the 'un-selfish selfish gene' is not particularly convincing to me. And ultimately it is about choice. Our own choice. Neither science nor religion can prove it to be this way or that way; it can only present possible explanations. And then we make our own choice.

  • There is nothing supernatural or superstitious required to be an ethical being. I think Dawkins has it right when he posits altruistic and moral/ethical behavior as being advantageous in natural selection.

  • Yea we should burn dawkins to the steak...im being sarcastic if you have not noticed.

  • to all those Americans with "a personal relationship with jebus" that u miraculously (pun included)got by the luck of not being born in a non christian country...you sit back ,judge people that dont believe in your gawd..worshipping your celebrities,,spend money on cool things while people starve and die of curable disseases.dont forget to ask jeebus for help and forgiveness cause your sins are forgivable and not as bad as us heathens!!hyppocrits

  • When he dies he will get a suprise.

  • Dawkins should have stayed away from this...he just got involved with something he should have ignored.

    Karma catches us all someday.

  • Shouldn't he have concluded that writing this book is scientifically futile before he even started it? After all, 95% of the people who will read it already agree with him. And 99% of the world will never read it.

The majority of humans will Always be religious.

Perhaps he just needs ca$h, just like the religions he criticizes. Money is everyone's God.

  • Bravo,

One must cultivate logical, rationale, reasoning, critical and justified thinking, for the betterment of human kind and planet. It makes you feel complete.

  • I was with him 100% until he denied the existence of the orbiting teapot.

  • nicebadger every time i past this post i love it

  • so true just by god planting the tree of knowledge implies a knowledge already so the authors sure got that little story wrong, and a talking serpent was that the common language before Babel, come on guys?

  • remember shit for beliefs, that even Manson, Dahmer, Son of Sam, and even Oswald just to name drop, remember all they had or have to do before they die is accept Jesus and they will be saved, sounds like a crock but your NT authors made it up, not me

  • eric once again SENTENCE maybe you have penance on the brain,

  • you'd make a good detective interviewing witnesses at a crime scene, maybe you can reopen the OJ files , can you believe this eric character?

  • mf ok once again you are way off, any misconstruction and building a demagogue is similiar to seeing 10 fat ugly chicks every year as you grow up these are your choices finally a babe moves to town , liking Dawkins is just a breath of fresh air for us 4% godless

  • You've continuously drawn attention to the fact that Dawkins pales into relative insignificance compared to many older writers/philosophers. Surely you get my point. I'm not opposed to Dawkins.

  • remember class not the killing God asked of Abraham with a son sacrifice, or for a womans adultery, or for the cities of people god brought to their knees, you try to make sin seem noy related to being a notch above the animal kingdom

  • mf sorry for all the fucks and attacks, you threw me off with the book not breaking ground i agree with you there, but so many others besides Russell have walked this road also, i would side with you in hoping to get most of these young tubers to read others also

  • I don't really see it in terms of 'camps'. Regardless of whether someone is a theist or atheist, I just hate bandwagon-jumpers. People should think more for themselves. I agree, it would be advisable for people to read more Nietzsche, Russell, and the like. I'd personally advise Russell as Nietzsche often lets his emotions run the show a little too much. Makes for good reading though.

  • here you make the best sense so far, sort of one listener loving U2 up to War, and another thinking the Atomic Bomb album was their best, but heh even someone born after the Beatles is allowed to listen to them, and by the value never is proportionate to value you have been listening to too much Milton and Greenspan

  • 1Danger mf103 list of favorite things in life probably goes like this from number 10 to 1, Narnia, church, sundays, the bible, not being a soldier, selective reader, christian rock, not being black, animals, bland food,

  • You are such an idiot. I AM NOT A THEIST. Shall I write it backwards on your forehead?

  • Bud if you love this man you'll love Nietzsche, Freud, early CS Lewis before he turned 30, Thoreau, especially Cervantes' Don Quixote written as a subtle stab on the bible no religious leader caught thank god, little pun there,

  • first i am godless, but natural selection is different than random selection, mutations also, evolution has been as a word used incorrectly to describe how life and human might have got to this point and time, i ask of darwin why do some people have bad eyesight from childhood no one can explain why that trait survives, they know why its caused but not why it survives, help me out if you know some material to read

  • Truly holy or intellectuals wouldnt critize ones choice in beleifs. It is the arrogance of these followers that causes all these religous wars and differences. There is nothing wrong with beleiving in something, its just the pushers that need a smack. If any of you want to pick on any religion, try scientology or freemasonry, I would find the outcome more entertaining.
