I thought the Who writers were just being lazy by totally ripping off Mings rings scene but it seems they're clever cause they picked a scene that hardly anyone has noticed they got the idea from

I just watched Flash Gordon and I'm glad someone else noticed this. The final scene with the master was clearly inspired by the end of the movie.
