The AK-M is the "modernized" version of the AK-47 that was introduced in the late 1950's. It features a stamped receiver versus the milled receiver found on the AK-47, along with numerous other production and performance upgrades.

You forgot to mention that the AKM uses the 5.45 round instead of the 7.62
