the true warrior spirit is to close the gap on you opponent not throw your knife. but if you have a gun that works too. just make sure its locked and ready to rock lol
Spyderco makes great stuff, but Gotta give Credit where credit is due, Emerson actually invented the "wave" opening feature, I carry an Emerson Commander as well as an Endura "wave" both which back up my Glock 23.
Great video as always! You are a black belt knife throwing, whip cracking, gun shooting bundle of coolness. I am trying to convince my wife to be more like you. Ha HA!
@Xolette Your right in not throwing it anymore, very few folders can be thrown on account of the pin that holds the blade in place. It can wear out faster if a person keeps throwing it... ive destroyed a few good folders that way... best to keep throwing to fixed blades. Besides, in real life, once you let go of that knife... you got one chance to kill that person otherwise, they will be really really mad and will use it on you!.
I know this is an old video, but would never recommend throwing your knife away, because its your weapon, and when you no longer have it..then what? As demonstrated in this video, she missed quite often and in real life, the attacker would now easily have your weapon, and that wont turn out well! Just a suggestion! :)
[Sidenote: Please do not use your folder or your knife in self-defense. I made this video primarily to show how fast you can pull a spyderco out, and throw it, if you ever had to. This video is not meant to be an instructional video on how to save your life in the instance your life is in danger. Nor, do I recommend that you should throw your only weapon in an attack. Please consult a professional for proper training in self-defense and not this 2 minute video. Thank you!.]
Hey Xolette, How Much Is That Particular Knife, And Do You Have Any Advice To Fixing Your Own Hunting Double Edge Dagger At Home? Mine Is Bent At The Tip ANd Has 2 Ugly Fold In It, Lookin For Help On Self Repairing This Issue, Plz Let Me Kno, Thanks!
@BrandonNegron The knife costs anywhere from $65 to $90 I believe. When it bends, it's because the steel has a low carbon content and is too soft. I'd try to hammer it down, but if the tip breaks, use a grindstone or a dremmel to get the point back. Good luck.
I cant believe you need to post disclaimers on U-tube . Any idiot using these videos for more than entertainment should throw the knife at his own forehead -- then pray the Easter-bunny will save his eternal soul ..The world is full of idiots .
Its a nice knife to open cardboard boxes but your best bet is a snub nose revolver and keep out of dark alleys .-- or cemeteries at full moon --- all the crazy horny guys are out .
Do you do any flipping with butterfly knives? if so, I'd love to see some videos of you going crazy, especially tutorials. I've got a few butterflies but I'm really a beginner at flipping, so it would be much appreciated. you're awesome thanks =)
@ShorinRyu74 I know 1 drill-- but that's it, and I'm definitely not an expert. I've seen some awesome tutorials on YouTube though. I tried to find the guy's channel and i can't find it-- but he was a big guy and awesome at balisong. But, if I do get into practicing tricks, I'll shoot a video!
@ShorinRyu74 I would contact Spyderco and see if they sell the Endura Wave to your state. Then I would check the New York penal code and see if they allow you to carry a folder 4 inch blade. For California, I believe you can't carry a fixed edge knife with a blade shorter than 3 inches. Good luck :)
@ShorinRyu74 I have a spyderco Endura 3 with the Zip tie mod which is the same idea, and a friend has the same thing. One night both of us were in a fast food joint @ 4am and wound up talking to a Buffalo cop about knives, and he confirmed what our internet searches told us. Butterflies are Illegal, Button activated knives are illegal. Spring assisted knives are NOT illegal, and therefor "pocket assisted" knives are not illegal.
@ShorinRyu74 I later wound up pulling my knife on some dude who was slapping up his GF in the party district w/o realizing that there were 6 cops already rushing over to smack the hell out of the dude. None of them said ANYTHING to me and i know 2 of them saw me yank my knife out. So i would say that how Legal this kind of knife is is probably just as legal as you intentions are with it. Protecting you / others from harm = golden, robbing a store = screwed
@stompySharpNpointy Speak for yourself! I carry a CS AK47, so even if the blade misses the aluminum butt will still crack his head;) Seriously though, is it possible to control which end will impact the target on like a 4 or 5 oz knife?
@CarbonWaterCalcium no clue but underhand toss at 4 feet may work but like i said ..you could miss and you end up giving the attacker the weapon to kill you with
Throwing a folder puts extreme stress on the blade, lock mechanism, and just about everything... It's fun but I'd keep a spare endura in pristine shape for edc. Great vid, cool personality :)
Showing the bloopers is keeping it real. Don't let anyone tell you not to practice knife throwing, why not have the skill just in case, besides, I think you've found that it's pretty fun!
if you ever want to do that with any other spyderco just put a cable tie around the hole. the protrusion catches on ur pocket just like the wave, so cool!
I popped a spyderco after carrying several over the years and now I won't carry one anymore. the locks are supposed to be great but NOT in my experience.
love mine and I also feel "naked" without it. I hope you are just joking about throwing your knife at a attacker. funny vid regardless. ps im jealous you have two haha!
@Thebizzle21 Yay! I actually have two... because I thought I had lost mine, and my boyfriend was kind enough to buy me another one. Then I found the one I lost when I was emptying out my old car. :) But yes, still carrying mine around!
The Endura 4 is definitely a useful defense weapon, but I would never throw away my weapon. Even it I did manage to hit a moving oponent, they could still take it from their injured body and possibly kill me with it. Never let go of your weapon, unless you're an incredibly skilled professional that is. I myself am not.
I think the few bloopers at the end are enough to encourage me not to throw my knife. If you really are being attacked I don't think I would want to throw my weapon away.
Good video though. I've been looking for a the wave endura. Only been able to find it with serration's so far :(
Im starting Wt training in january with some escrima too. Now I want to try knifethrowing as well. Oh and you have some cool stuff on your walls! Its great finding good new channels on youtube. Cheers
I sure hope you aren't trying to tell someone that throwing a knife (probably your pocket knife aka: the only one you have) at an attacker in a self defense situation is a good idea. Using a knife against someone in a self defense situation isn't even legal unless your life is in danger and at that point you have to kill them. That could get ugly in many different ways including legally. Use a knife as a mirror for your compact. S30v
@jeffersontool First, please read the disclaimer at the beginning of the video. I did not make this video to inform the world how to react in an attack. I made it for fun, as you can see by the big smile on my face. Yes, I understand legally, you shouldn't attempt to kill someone unless your life is in danger. And lastly, I hope next time you can have a bit more maturity and to keep your sexist comments to yourself. I'm a girl, who has a folder. Deal with it.
@v8einstein Nah... I'm good with my one folder. But, no the clip doesn't bother me, esp. with no spin since all you need is a continuous brush against a flat edge, which the spyderco has.
The Spyderco Endura is a nice knife. That Japanese VG-10 Stainless Steel is very sharp and holds an excellent edge. The Emerson Wave feature is also a nice touch.
I'm not crazy about Spyderco's blade designs though. I'm more of a fan of clip point/drop point style knives (like CS Voyager Large, SOG Trident, CS Recon I, Buck 110, Gerber Gator). My all time favorite is the Cold Steel Large Voyager Clip Point style, a 4" VG-1 Clip Point blade, great for everyday cutting/EDC.
I would never ever throw my knife at an attacker, in a life or death situation. Even if my skill level had a 90% chance of landing right, I still wouldn't do it.
word of advice to you and all of those who try to whip lash their knives open, if its a good knife dont do it. it is not how the knives are meant to be opened and it puts a lot of stress on the stop bar and locking mechanism.
its good to actually see a girl that carries a knife/ weapon. Im a dude and i try to at least keep something with me. I think its really neat that you can throw a knife though. I suggest you get a concealed weapons permit. Just having a pistol can on your person is a strong deterrent and in all honesty sticking a 4 inch blade in someone is not going to stop someone who is determined to do you harm. stay safe
Dear ' Xolette ' , you shouldn`t feel too secure with your knife. If you get attacked by somebody who can fight and you suddenly hold a knife in your hand he might take it away ( ouch wrist ) and use it against you ( hopefully, your mentor has told you ).
3 things ! thats knife i not ment for throwing its not the right design or shape 2 its much better to keep the knife in hand in a knife fight or any fight because if you miss and even the best can miss you disarm your self and 3 the endura is a great choice but be careful its not the end all be all but good vid
Why would you throw a perfectly good weapon away. if u stab at him you can make more then one gash and deeper. Also if you want a better knife for fighting that still has the wave the try Emerson knives. I recommend the CQC-8
Don't cut your pretty face when it richochets-let the ugly dudes do that.A guy with a scarred face is rugged,a woman is pitiful.NO ONE needs a scar or a lost eye!
I'm enjoying your vids. A cut above the normal youtube offering. (warning; intentional pun :) )
I'm sure you know that you can do much better work by hanging on to your Wave.
I moded a Benchmade Griptillian by cutting a section of the thumbhole out to make a 'wave' type protrusion. I like the axis lock on the griptillian better than the lock backs.
I'm gonna show this video to my daughter... One day when someone messes with daddy's little girl when I'm not around I hope she puts a huge gaping hole in him. She's currently taking silat classes, been doing so for last 5 years but still balked at carrying knives.
Throwing a folder cause great stress on a lock, and shouldn't be done. The locked can get stressed to the point where the blade begins to get bladeplay (lateral/ vertical movement of the blade when it is in the locked position). Also, throwing knives for self defense isn't that good of an idea. If you miss once, but hit the person with the handle, you just gave them a knife to fight back with. Great video, but careful when throwing.
Nice throw. Always a sense of winning when it sticks into what you're throwing it at. I'd be more concerned with providing my attacker with a weapon to use against me. And losing a great knife. In that order, of course. :)
It's called the Emerson Wave (that little hook), Emerson is the company that patented it, you should look them up if you want more weapons that feature the wave. However, they are very pricey. I had a karambit from them for a while, great blade for Self-Defense. Love your vids, by the way, you look so cute doin all this stuff.
im glad you show the bit at the end. maybe it will help people to understand NEVER throw your knife in a defensive situation. you are not rambo and life is not a movie. all you do when you throw your knife is arm your attacker.
ran out of space. Anyway, cool vid. Combat effectiveness aside, props for your leet knife throwing skills. I am also curious as to how the Endura stands up to the stress of throwing. I know it is a rugged knife, and not too expensive. But that seems as though it would be hard on a knife.
Good review, I don't mean to sound critical here. I don't really see knife throwing as applicable to a combat scenario. You are probably much more skilled at it than most, yet see how often you missed. I wouldn't want to give my weapon up like that in a life or death situation. Better options at >5ft may be running away, charging the attacker, or shooting them(may be a moot point where you live, I don't know your CCW laws.) If the BG is running away, don't knife him, then you are the aggressor.
Ive had an endura 4 wave for a while and of all the knives I own this is my fav edc.I wish more women would recognize the fact they have the right to protect themselves.Buy the way you are a very pretty woman with a very cute smile! Awsome vid good job!
Great video! Good to see young ladies getting into self defense. I wish I could get my friends to think like you. Endura wave will be my next knife buy. I've been packing a Delica w/ ziptie. ;) Keep up the good work.
you can replicate the wave opening with a zip tie, just put it around the spydie hole and you have a makeshift wave. Nice vid by the way, im filipino too have you trained in silat or kali?
That's great! Glad I asked. I've been afraid to purchase any folder outside Endura for that reason, because the wave's so awesome! I think I'm training in Kali, the inosanto blend? My instructor doesn't formally teach at a dojo, so I'm unsure what the formal names are for what I'm learning. But so far, knife/machete work, soft weapons...he's very into the filipino martial arts!
I broke my cold steel 4' voyager throwing it over and over. had to re-forge the lock shape and make a new pin. It's a frankenstein knife now. I'd like to compare the endura wve to an emerson "banana" knife.
the point of throwing the knife is to give the attacker something to defend themselves with, cause lets face it guys, would you want to fight a badass chick like this... hell no!!
This looks like a great knife, I carry a Cold Steel Ti-Lite because it has a similar quick open design. I might have to trader her in for a Spyderco Endura Wave 4 after seeing this, great video. I would also like to suggest you using foam "jigsaw floor mats" as a throwing target for your folding knives they will put less strain on the blade locks. :)
Thank you for the comment and the advice! I love Cold Steel. I have a set of Cold Steel Throwers and a Cold Steel machete. I've honestly thrown my Spyderco a total of 6 times-- I throw my butter knives that are of similar weight to get the same affect. But I will be getting a piece of foam to help with my lighter blades. Good luck with ordering your Spyderco!
It depends on the situation. Most attackers will stop attacking when their fingers have been cut or a knife is protuding out of their chests. Perhaps you can throw your knife and run, because it'd be useless to stick around and fight. In the case of multiple attackers, I wouldn't throw my one and only weapon. For me, knife throwing is more of a sport, but something that can be helpful depending on the situation.
Ehhh! I suppose it's good to be able to throw a folding knife in self defense, but I really don't recommend throwing one at a wooden target. It puts a lot of stress on the tip and joint, and can easily snap your blade. (It will happen, I promise)
I'm actually getting a piece of foam from my instructor which will help with the lighter blades. Thank you for the advice. That vid was the only time I practiced throwing my Spyderco because I was afraid of, yes, breaking it, and it'd ricochet and cut me. It wasn't too bad! I'll be practicing throwing it more once I get the foam.

Dear ' Xolette ' , you shouldn`t feel too secure with your knife. If you get attacked by somebody who can fight and you suddenly hold a knife in your hand he might take it away ( ouch wrist ) and use it against you ( hopefully, your mentor has told you ).

3 things ! thats knife i not ment for throwing its not the right design or shape 2 its much better to keep the knife in hand in a knife fight or any fight because if you miss and even the best can miss you disarm your self and 3 the endura is a great choice but be careful its not the end all be all but good vid

hahaha
sooo ... what youre saying is ... you 1 in 6 attackers are dead :-D
i am sorry ... but you really look so much more cute than dangerous to me :-)

ITSMETHEFLASH 1 year ago
@ITSMETHEFLASH I disagree. I've always thought a cool face scar would be awesome. But then again, a lost eye is not that awesome. :)

BTW, good luck at Cold Steel!

Love your vids, by the way, you look so cute doin all this stuff.

im glad you show the bit at the end. maybe it will help people to understand NEVER throw your knife in a defensive situation. you are not rambo and life is not a movie. all you do when you throw your knife is arm your attacker.

forcedefrappecom 2 years ago
ran out of space. Anyway, cool vid. Combat effectiveness aside, props for your leet knife throwing skills. I am also curious as to how the Endura stands up to the stress of throwing. I know it is a rugged knife, and not too expensive. But that seems as though it would be hard on a knife.
ASHeatherton 2 years ago
Good review, I don't mean to sound critical here. I don't really see knife throwing as applicable to a combat scenario. You are probably much more skilled at it than most, yet see how often you missed. I wouldn't want to give my weapon up like that in a life or death situation. Better options at >5ft may be running away, charging the attacker, or shooting them(may be a moot point where you live, I don't know your CCW laws.) If the BG is running away, don't knife him, then you are the aggressor.
ASHeatherton 2 years ago
My god you're adorable! Ever used a real Emerson wave knife? The Spyderco wave actually works better but the Emersons are more tactical.

Great video! Good to see young ladies getting into self defense. I wish I could get my friends to think like you. Endura wave will be my next knife buy. I've been packing a Delica w/ ziptie. ;) Keep up the good work.
ctfam 2 years ago
Glad you like the vid! I'm confused by the ziptie...what is the ziptie for?
Xolette 2 years ago
you can replicate the wave opening with a zip tie, just put it around the spydie hole and you have a makeshift wave. Nice vid by the way, im filipino too have you trained in silat or kali?
raptor660kid 2 years ago
That's great! Glad I asked. I've been afraid to purchase any folder outside Endura for that reason, because the wave's so awesome! I think I'm training in Kali, the inosanto blend? My instructor doesn't formally teach at a dojo, so I'm unsure what the formal names are for what I'm learning. But so far, knife/machete work, soft weapons...he's very into the filipino martial arts!

@raptor660kid holy shit thats a good idea

I broke my cold steel 4' voyager throwing it over and over. had to re-forge the lock shape and make a new pin. It's a frankenstein knife now. I'd like to compare the endura wve to an emerson "banana" knife.
Milkmadness 2 years ago
You are cute, thanks for the vid.
Enjoy your Endura, it's a great knife.
unamonu 2 years ago
the point of throwing the knife is to give the attacker something to defend themselves with, cause lets face it guys, would you want to fight a badass chick like this... hell no!!
marry a badass chick like this... hell yeah!!
unless you're scared...
ninjandn 2 years ago
This looks like a great knife, I carry a Cold Steel Ti-Lite because it has a similar quick open design. I might have to trader her in for a Spyderco Endura Wave 4 after seeing this, great video. I would also like to suggest you using foam "jigsaw floor mats" as a throwing target for your folding knives they will put less strain on the blade locks. :)
spunkbunny 2 years ago
Thank you for the comment and the advice! I love Cold Steel. I have a set of Cold Steel Throwers and a Cold Steel machete. I've honestly thrown my Spyderco a total of 6 times-- I throw my butter knives that are of similar weight to get the same affect. But I will be getting a piece of foam to help with my lighter blades. Good luck with ordering your Spyderco!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this is pointless trowing your only knife at some one wtf
seven47katana 2 years ago
I agree, projectile weapons are ridiculous. Look at how unsuccessful the gun was. Please note sarcasm you tool. I'll "trow" my fist in yo' face.
celestialdls 2 years ago
It depends on the situation. Most attackers will stop attacking when their fingers have been cut or a knife is protuding out of their chests. Perhaps you can throw your knife and run, because it'd be useless to stick around and fight. In the case of multiple attackers, I wouldn't throw my one and only weapon. For me, knife throwing is more of a sport, but something that can be helpful depending on the situation.
Xolette 2 years ago
Xolette got her black belt back in 2004. The knife is only one of many of her weapons.
She has 8 more....
2 x Fists.
2 x Elbows.
2 x Knees.
2 x Feet.
With that I dont think she'd be worried about 1 knife.
RDPproject 2 years ago
Thanks! My thoughts exactly!
Xolette 2 years ago
No worries mate. Happy to support you and give it back to the idiots out there (there are so many)
RDPproject 2 years ago
Ehhh! I suppose it's good to be able to throw a folding knife in self defense, but I really don't recommend throwing one at a wooden target. It puts a lot of stress on the tip and joint, and can easily snap your blade. (It will happen, I promise)
So, maybe practice with a cheap version?
Or make a softer target ?
KeyboredNinja 2 years ago
I'm actually getting a piece of foam from my instructor which will help with the lighter blades. Thank you for the advice. That vid was the only time I practiced throwing my Spyderco because I was afraid of, yes, breaking it, and it'd ricochet and cut me. It wasn't too bad! I'll be practicing throwing it more once I get the foam.
Xolette 2 years ago
I think KeyboardNinja should be the soft target.
celestialdls 2 years ago
If that means she ties me to her bedroom wall, then I agree.

i was gonna say the same thing, the lock is probably gonna fail eventually.
