However, if you mean the characters Guy, Sodom, Rolento, and Cody, they're Final Fight characters. In regards to this movie, this was just kinda haphazardly made up on the spot since Shadoloo isn't even here

So I agree with Kaihedgie's description of why some people learn a musical instrument and have no desire to become a musician or play in a symphony or something. They simply learn it and practice it cause they want too and to be as good as they can be for their own reasons. So with Ryu, that is how it is with him. Going by the games, comics, and the animated files, his reasons for doing what is does is highly simplistic. To be a better fighter physically and mentally. There is no "why he does it" that is just it, period. He fights simply cause he wants to and to be the best overall fighter he can be. There doesn't need to be a "why" it simply is what it is. He clearly fights for the hell of it.
