Clancy Brown's remarks make me think - the actors, writers, directors and crew can all join forces and make the most amazing product in the world. But the producers - apparently - want to make the cheapest product in the world.
And I have to say, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Were I an actor, I would certainly vote no on this contract.
Some food for thought--the SAG board members who forced this contract through while lying to the membership and telling them a yes vote would mean tons of jobs for them, call themselves "Unite for Strength". This is a faction of the union who only believes that a small demographic of the membership deserves to be protected-the ones who are on a series or work comes easily to-they wanted that 3% raise for THEM, and cared NOTHING about the TYPICAL ACTOR and HIS PROTECTION. To them, we don't count

The Producers added these weird little quirks in the contract to make actors mad enough to keep going without a contract.
If the Elliot Gould-type shallow morons wouldn't have pushed against the AFTRA merger, which would have assured us solidarity ( we vips can't possible have lowly disc jockeys in our exclusive union!)
Lets get a contract in there, and build our strength now!
It is important to get a foothold NOW in New Media (which, think about it... is not even really established yet) and we negotiate better deals in contracts to come. If Producers are using non-union actors while we're on the picket line, we lose. Yes means NOT PERFECT (but is this a perfect world?) It means we have a foothold and a good chance to gain more ground next contract. NO MEANS WE GO BACK TO THE TABLE, IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE TO MAKE ANY MORE CONCESSIONS WHATSOEVER, AT ANY TIME.
I certainly have lots of respect for the actore here, but am voting YES. Am I happy with this contract? No. It is not perfect, but what negotiated contract is "perfect"?
A conflict with my Burger King Commercial running along side an endorsement of a Big Mac in a TV show is not right... but a worse (and more probable problem by 10,000%) is not having any contract at all.
If "No" wins... the Producers will celebrate. Their goal is to BUST THE UNION COMPLETELY.
We HAD a contract--the OLD one that we were working under the entire time, which offered us much more protections than this piece of steaming sh it that the ignorant members ratified because they were told it would mean they would all have tons and tons of work. WHERE IS THE WORK?
The yes voters say lets get back to work.Well turn around and look in NYC it just arrived. There is no threat of a strike yet.Did the yes voters ever consider film tax credits, economy as to reasons for limited productions.Vote No this should not slide under the coatails of comm. contract
I would like to echo comments made here that should not be so easily put aside. This is not a lifeline, If this is so good then why aren't we in unison like the comm. contract. If this passes we won't be able to EVER sustain a living wage.
Hey, MrActordad: Is the "lifeline" you're referring the New Media template being sold to us? The only raises you'll see with this egregious Contract will be from traditional media. Everyone agrees that the future IS New Media. Please admit then that you're willing to sell the future of the Union and it's Membership down the river for getting a few bucks more today. Also, we're you around when AFTRA undercut SAG during their Negotiations last year? Is trust not part of the equation here?
Without actors on any type of screen, commerce in the US and abroad COMES TO A HALT. This is just Enron screwing grandma out of her life savings all over again. STOP THE UNION BUSTING. This is about huge companies making MORE money of my back. What new actor in their right mind would bother to join the union if this contract is ratified? They'd have to work most days of the year in order to pay their DUES!

Again with the Death Sentence. Please stop quoting sad old Ed Asner. He is a lovely actor but he does not know when to stop. This is not a death sentence, for many many many many actors, it is a LIFELINE.
Join us in keeping afloat and VOTING YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This contract is a DEATH SENTENCE. A quick raise Right NOW for the wealthiest members of this union will mean CATASTROPHIC & PERMANENT LOSS TO THE MAJORITY. Once you give something up YOU NEVER GET IT BACK. The sunset clause is a sham. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BY VOTING NO, and YOUR ENTIRE FUTURE TO GAIN. AFTRA is a problem to be handled AFTER we vote down this DESTRUCTIVE contract. You can't act like a pussy with your FUTURE, I'm sorry. EVERYTHING is on the line right now. VOTE NO
I respect Mr. Sheen but whoever is giving him information, is just plain wrong!
He can sit in Malibu from his beach house and tell us to vote down a contract that gives us raises and jobs in our parent union. I cannot wait any longer to get a raise when i work and to have any more shows go to aftra.
I love Martin Sheen and will continue to watch him with pleasure but I strongly disagree with him here.
I need this to survive. I AM VOTING YES!!!!!!!!!!!
MrActorned- your idea-- the pervasive idea being circulated by the "vote yes" supporters-- is that anyone voting no is not too bright and being given bad information by someone. Truth is, from what I've seen, "Vote NO" supporters are reading both the contract, the news reports, and the signs of the times and making an informed decision on their own to vote NO. The idea that you and your crew could come in, overthrow our leadership, and tell the membership what to think was flawed from the start.

Interesting that super-wealthy celebrities like Clooney and Sheen are opposed to the contract. Most of their huge incomes are from deals, percentages, and ownership (in other words, producing)- union wages and terms are irrelevant to them. Meanwhile working actors who actually get paid the union minimum, and most need the protection of the union, are FOR the contract.
The difference here is that our situation IS PERMANENT. We are being blamed for the whole damn ECONOMY when WE ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES. We'll NEVER get back what we give up now. It's a DEATH SENTENCE. It's disgusting that people think we should DESTROY THIS ENTIRE PROFESSION because THEY are having financial trouble. WE are having financial trouble. The difference is that it's OUR contract & OUR lives, and it's not your business. Vote NO guys-your entire FUTURE is on the line in front of you.

We've got a fantasizing fool in the SAG president's chair. He campaigned for the job by claiming he was a "former Black Panther." He's white and former Panthers have told me Rosenberg was never any kind of member. The last time we let a deluded egotist make decisions- Daniels- we had a long, useless strike that served only him and his fellow fantasizers, and we lost work and credibility we've never regained, not to mention the wages and benefits we DIDN'T gain. Vote yes.

This is all wonderful, but no one seems to be addressing the thousands, like me, who have had their jobs taken from them because of the mere threat of a strike. If SAG strikes, even more lives will be ruined, especially in this economy, even down to the restaurants who depend on production employees for their patronage.
Voting for a strike will NOT get your point across. It WILL ruin thousands of lives and cause many people to despise you.
So they say by 2011 we can ALL strike, not so easy, because the AMPTP is planning again to stockpile more films so they can wait out a strike way longer than all the unions can who work paycheck to paycheck.
Listen, let the SAG union take this hit for everyone, we've heard plenty of actor jokes before and face public ridicule all the time -- so we can take it.
If SAG wins ALL the other unions will WIN too!
I hope you can see that and thank you for your support!
It's not just in the media business -- look at the credit card companies, (banks), insurance companies, etc. more greedy CEOs causing an economic turndown and wreaking havoc.
SAG is trying to keep its piece of the pie, that's all. And quite frankly SAG was out there supporting IATSE and WGA just recently on their contracts. And now, since those unions have signed they are becoming dissatisfied as the reality of their contracts is setting in and they don't like it.
SAG has the power if we all VOTE NO. It's the only way to guarantee a better contract!
Our only chance to renegotiate a better deal for our futures as SAG members is to VOTE NO!!!
AMPTP wants to break all the unions, if we let them roll us, then no union is safe. It's just a matter of time before the other unions are dismantled too.
VOTE NO!!
The labor movement ... is the last noble protest of the American people against the power of incorporated wealth. Wendell Phillips
GET YOUR BALLOTS IN, EVEN IF YOU'VE NEVER VOTED BEFORE, THIS CONTRACT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!
We must VOTE NO to save union members from future financial disaster. If you want residuals in new media, then you will want to VOTE NO!!
AMPTP's PROMISE OF fixing new media IN 2 years won't happen. HISTORY HAS PROVEN OVER AND OVER THEY NEVER EVER CHANGE A CONTRACT ONCE IT'S SIGNED OFF ON.
AMPTP HAS FIERCE LABOR LAWYERS WHO ARE PAID TO NOT GIVE IN ONCE THEY GET WHAT THEY WANT.
This Contract is a Death Sentence. They are trying to confuse the issues with all this in-fighting & history & demands to divulge "your plan". What's at hand RIGHT NOW is THIS CONTRACT, and a yes vote on it is a DEATH SENTENCE FOR EVERYONE BELOW STAR LEVEL. It's that simple. You wanna fight later, great, we'll get into it. First things first. This Contract. And the ONLY vote is NO. A yest vote is a Death Sentence.
He/she is a bully. He bullied me in a private email cutting up my lack of credits on IMDB...He is a coward who wouldn't even identify his/her self. on this site. I think perhaps must be a producer.'
Oh' yeah In this proposed contract " UPN " and "WB' television networks want to be addressed as " CW ' aptly named as this stands for cheap workers. They want to pay non union wages. Also they won't pay you for the second wardrobe unless established on camera.
In retrospect the AMPTP sets the rules to negotiate one at a time,Also to pit one union against the other and it turned out beautiful for them.Let's stand up and vote No now !. We can carry the other side if they will stop dragging their feet and join us.
In this contract makesit harder to get late payments.Nnow they want more stringent paperwork. This expired contract is better to work under than the proposed contract.2011 will have it's own new set of issues.Vote No and don't let them kick us while were down.
"But how do I know you wont just wait to get to the other side, THEN kill me?" said the frog.
"Ahh...," crooned the scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, would it?!"
So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river.
When they arrived safely across the river, the frog felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back.
"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Why on earth did you do that?"
The scorpion shrugged, and smiledat the dying frog.
I don't like the removal of the 71 residuals. - I have said that from day 1. The thing is this. How much money are they making from pre 71 ONLINE RESIDUALS?
I often wonder why ? "Force majure"in a contract when attorneys could argue that outside of contracts in court.Of course I am just an actor?. For that matter why do you need to have a clause to look at residual growth later when it's here slapping us in the face now.Negotiate it now or see it go the way of the DVD residuals.Who made these two proposals anyway ? members, Alan/Doug or MGwire /White anybody know?
This contract throws the Senior members of our union out like trash. That is utterly disgusting. Now some of these horrid individuals on here are saying that NO ONE COLLECTS PRE '71 or '74 RESIDUALS AT ALL. I guess if you don't know any older people you can just pretend they don't even exist. AND LIE ABOUT IT. Some older members of this union buy FOOD & HEART MEDICATION with their residuals. They're on Social Security. THIS IS WRONG IN EVERY WAY. VOTE NO & show them we are more than just animals
Peter Drucker was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Some of his ideas:
1) employees are assets not liabilities. ... workers are the essential ingredients of the modern economy. Central to this philosophy is the view that people are an organization's most valuable resource and that a manager's job is to prepare and free people to perform.
2) A company's primary responsibility is to serve its customers. Profit is not the primary goal.
Common sense will tell you that anything this dividing witin our union is not a concillatory contract.Blondfrog1 said that and that tells me strong minds will prevail for us...I hope !
i'm behind 110%. i'm a little guy getting kick around by thre greedy fat cats now. i could be out of work anyday for voting for obama. but we smarter people know you can olny kick your dog so many times. get 'em .
Who died and left agents and lawyers kings anyway. We should not give others that much authority.I want somebody fighting for me that has done my work before or at least could do it if they had too.
DON'T FORGET -- get your ballots back before June 9th! AND VOTE NO!
And also disregard anything yayayarat says -- he is a hired thug here to dispute (with lies too!) everything any VOTE NO member has to say. He will continue posting until the owner of this stream blocks him (hey, not a bad idea)!
He or she is abusive, bullying, negative and delusional. Claiming to know a SAV won't go thru. Claiming many other things that are simply not true!
You must be on the membership first board . Not one of my posts are abusive, but instead have asked you to show me facts to support a no vote. a hired thug because I disagree? WOW. I am happy to discuss with you, but you do nothing but call me names and say I am a bully, but won't answer questions. What Lies have I said? I'll wait for your answer
SAG has leverage yayayarat but not when you do these three incendiary things:1.Let Aftra button up a deal first. 2. Attack your sister unions.3 last but not least never take an elitist attitude with comment like east is better than west or background actors should not vote ( but let them pay $2,450 to join )
I will give you an example of companies like Disney,CW,among others.UPS in the mid 90s would not keep full time employees. Now the employees had stock incentives and were in the union as well.Well what happens when god forbid they had to strike for the first time in 90 years. How does that employee have a veiled threat of a strike when he knows he's losing money on the company stocks.Dammitt to hell they want you to fight with one another and let non union do the work.
you haven't made a valid point to THIS contract in any of your posts. Do you know why the AMPTP won't lock into anything on this contract and were the ones who initiated the sunset clause and said we will open our books up? Why? Because this is a moving target. This requires a LOT of people changing their viewing habits BIG time. When you have 95% of pop. watching TV on TV, they can't gamble on Internet. How many Network produced wed series have you seen? I know of 2. both are gone = NO$
These people we negotiate against are 6-10 years ahead of all us.While we are worried about getting work or working they are thinking how they can get it done for little or nothing.Procucers are saying they'll get back with us.Like Martin Says lets get back with them on a better deal.
Listen yayayarat I have assisted in negotiating three contracts forTeamster's with ADM (Archer Daniels Midland).what makes you think yes for this contract will solve FilmTax credit issues for NYC and LA.and the economy problems. You say lets get back to work because of millions lost.Answer me this "What is stopping more production now ? AMPTP and SAG are working without a contract no threat of a strike. All we are saying if they get paid we won't paid.Don't be easy
Exactly right Blondfrog1,We have to stop the east coast west coast and distinguishing differences between one another. That is a very sensible thing you said. The yes vote vids wont even allow comments lol. Thanks
After watching all the youtube videos and reading all the emails, it occurred to me: If this contract divides the union and its members so deeply, how can it be the right thing for us? If actors were to disagree only slightly and on a few issues or details, then it would be different. But as deeply as a division this contract has caused, maybe they should go back to the negotiating table and get a deal that most of us can agree on for the most part.
Its true and I agree. But as anyone who has ever worked in a negotiation. Ask an agent who has done a big deal or a lawyer. Negotiations are about Leverage. SAG has none. We have been without a deal for almost a full year. All other guilds have a deal. There is no incentive or fear from the producers by SAG. We are split and an SAV vote won't pass. They know that. The problem is Membership First - Alan, Doug Allen and Mf approved the residual structure of new media and now...
are crying foul. Why? Its about politics. Alan is upset because HIS agenda not the agenda of the membership got upset and turned around. That is scary. When a man agrees to a contract framework, but when his NED is fired for not doing his job, he turns on the guild and sues it (Current) and then says the deal is bad.....
Hey, I'm totally confused... I do believe in 5 years everyone in America and soon the world will have a computer screen hanging on their wall instead of a flat screen and "digital cable" will not be cable but simply the internet. You will be able to type in a show & watch it instantly. No more dvds, video, blue ray.. just beautiful internet.
That said, I'm sure once the producers see that they can hire anyone union/ non union (there are fine non union actors I'm sure)... whats the point of us? And I just want to know what Martin Sheen, Ed Harris, or even all the c & d list celebs in the yes vote video would say to me... I like Tom and George but lets face it they are HUGE celebs of the 80s 90s and giganto producers of the 2000s. The contract helps them significantly!
Yeah we should just sacrifice other peoples' lives on a gamble-the Elderly Members, the Stuntpeople, the Background performers, and EVERYONE below star level. That's a plan. For a few thousand dollars being waved in front of your heartless face right now, we should throw everyone else under the bus. Wow! What Integrity! What Honor! I sure hope you're next to me watching my back in the next war I fight in, because you really know how to protect people! Vote No for yourself and your fellow members
That is hilarious. You don't even know the contract. you should run for membership first.
The residuals pre 71 are bad. I know that, BUT i ask you what to about the majority of the union who currently works post 71? Okay, I will give you residuals pre 71. Great, what are you giving back? That is how this works. Go ahead tell me?
You say few thousand dollars -? MILLIONS!! 85 million lost already. More coming each day.
VOTE NO actors. The new contract is bad! The producers cannot be trusted.
History has proven it - never in the history of any SAG contract has the AMPTP gone back to renegotiate an issue - even when they've promised they would. But we should believe them now? I don't think so.
I highly recommend voting no. But, you do want you want - only don't come crying when new media takes off and you are getting ripped royally on residuals.
Or sacrifice the guaranteed 100 of millions of dollars in wages and P&H for something that is 3% of the tv viewing AND is has been agreed upon by producers to begin from scratch in 2011.
Smart idea to Vote YES. Not sacrifice your life on a gamble
Here is something for all you Ed Harris, Martin Sheen and Rob Schnieder Fans out there who think they are fighting for you the actor. They are all producers as well. you people call Tom Hanks and George Clooney names for wanting to vote yes because they are "Producers" So is Ed, Martin and Rob. Rob Schnieder is as much of schill as anyone.
Not true! Only Rob Schneider has a true production company however, he has no deal at a major studio.
BUT -- Hanks & Clooney both have major production deals -- Playtone @ Universal and Smokehouse @ Warner Bros. Hanks has 3 new pix slated for production; Clooney has 7 slated to go in the next 2 years as well. A yes vote would stop all the influx of new money if there is a strike. That's what they care about, not the middle income actor.
2011 contractualy written on opening the books is where ? in this, unratified contract ?. Sure It's not easy to get a company to show the union the books. From what I read the SAG p&w was started over residuals before 1960.WGA and aftra fought their battles.Don't depend on someone else to fight our battles. The threat of a strike is leverage and we don't even have a veiled threat lol
YES. You should read it before you go off and listen to videos that are misinformed and don't have clear facts. They are spinning this. Its not good. You can't argue facts, but instead argue the continual "what if" What if it doesn't pass. SAG ain't getting a better deal. Not sure what fantasy land you live in, but contracts aren't done that way. SAG is an amazing guild and I am a proud member, but I am also smart enough to know when to fight and when to realize you are outmatched.
If we vote yes the newspaper boy will be able to cash our checks. We don't need the sun to rise( SUNRISE) clause to see that the residuals will go in the producers pockets.the only thing worse than a strike is a contract we can't live with.Vote no ! Jobs with justice i'll be there
Really? Why then is it contractualy written in 2011 that all producers books must be opened up to show profits and or real losses in new media? Why are you all fighting for something today when in 2 years in starts from zero and you are ignoring the billion of dollars that is currently there is Broadcast raises and P&H. Remember we will never get back what we lost. We haven't yet got it back in commercials. The WGA struck for 100 days. Still didn't get it done. We won't standing alone
Reminder to all actors, get those ballots back before June 9th and VOTE NO!
AMPTP [i.e. Peter Chernin, Robert Iger and Barry Meyers] said they intend to eliminate residuals forever. There are no more Ancillary Markets, theres only one market. We need a new system. Quoted verbatim.
The "new system" is $26 in residuals for 3 free weeks then 6 months of online streaming. WE MUST RENEGOTIATE!
Nat'l Director David White: "this deal sucks", SAG's President Rosenberg says VOTE NO!
All mgmt wants to eliminate residuals - FACT. They have in every negotiation. Don't follow Membership First belief systems - They are responsible for the 2000 commercial Strike. The breaking of the agency franchise agreement and now this. $26 is higher of % for reruns than we have ever gotten in DVDs. This is a new medium that is not profitable - See the big picture.
Remember Alan Rosenberg created the $26 plan, approved it when Doug Allen was in power and now he has turned and says vote no
BTW. Allen Rosenberg should have asked for an SAV or signed the contract a year ago. Instead he waited and engaged in some sort of wait and see strategy that somehow made sense to him but to nobody else. And then he proceeded to blame UFS for this situation when they did not even have power until September.
Whatever happens I'd rather vote for George Bush than see Rosenberg at the helm again.
This contract is not good, but I am voting yes. We have been on a pseudo strike for a year and these particular actors would ask us to hold out for another two years. Financially this is something I (and many others) cannot do. We do need to fight, but we need allies and this can't happen for another two years. This contract is about getting back to work so we can live to fight another day. I already voted yes.
By the way Background folks out there-some of us greatly appreciate your work, making all of our scenes feel real & supported & authentic. We can't make movies without you. I'm happy to hear that you guys understand how damaging this contract is to ALL its members below star level. We're all in this together. You don't utterly DESTROY the lives of one group (the majority) to get a quick pay raise for the elite FEW. That's not something I want to be a part of. VOTE NO for ETHICS & Your FUTURE
DESPITE mr. yayayarat's (rat for yes = Saylor P.R. lackey) constant rants which smart SAG members are ignoring, the SAG President DOES have a plan,
renegotiate, then strike if SAG doesn't get what is NEEDS.
It couldn't be more clear. Rosenberg knows the congloms want to break up SAG, but studios cannot shoot motion pictures without SAG - so a strike is leverage, it's all we got.
VOTE NO !!!
p.s that's great the SAG extras are voting no! That's a huge volume of SAG members!
and back in mid-2008 on the unofficial poll of SAG members, 80% said they WOULD vote for a strike authoriziation vote (SAV). Since this deal is unchanged since then -- the same holds true. 80% of SAG would then vote now for a SAV.
"unofficial poll" You mean the one spread by Membership First? Yep that one that they didn't send out almost a year ago? Don't blame the moderates. THey had the majority. They dropped the ball and SAG was left blowing in the wind. Go back to 2000 - MF said "strike, we can get the advertisers to give in" NEVER HAPPENED! Commercial industry has never recovered. the Agency agreement - Membership first said, they will come back to us. They need us. I am still waiting. Enough - YES VOTE
Yes, he has a plan and he says in his interviews and I quote "if we get to an SAV, I don't know that I would vote for it".
That is a plan allright. When in the HISTORY of any negotiation in any industry after there already labor peace with all other unions has mgmt gone back and renegotiated? NEVER. June 30 is 1 year without a deal. 1 year and MILLIONS of dollars. That money will never be recovered.
Not sure what poll you making up, but an SAV didn't have enough to pass in October polls
VOTE NO. Union Background should hold out for a fair deal. This AMPTP contract eliminates SAG BACKGROUND from some episodics produced by the networks int he future. See new video at SAGDEAL channel: Elimination of SAG BACKGROUND.
2) if [when, that's my editorializing] they dont give a better offer, get a strike authorization
3) go back to the AMPTP for a better offer
4) if they dont give a better offer, STRIKE
When asked about an SAV he said the same thing about not knowing how he would vote — for the strike authorization! So hes not committed even to his no-plan plan.
By the time his "dream scenario" would be complete it would be the end of this year and you are looking at almost 2 years of no raises in minimums. Nothing. That is 6% of money you will NEVER get back. Think about that folks.
That and your leader says he isn't sure if he would even vote for a SAV? Really?? WOW. Sounds like you guys are following a man into a burning building with no protection
Yeah, so just because this is difficult (typical in labor negotiations to go for even 15 months to hash out a contract) we're supposed to Permanently SCREW OVER the VAST Majority of the Membership so a few people can get their quick Raises RIGHT NOW (standard raises that we get every time mind you). Wow that's logic for you. Real scumbag logic. Sure am glad I never served militarily in any war next to scum like you, yayarat, who'd probably sell your own mother to the devil for a dollar. VOTE NO!
No other industry in the world, when faced with a strike has 2 different unions like ours. People say what about ACTRA? name the other Actors union that they could lose work to? There wasn't on. We don't pass this. An SAV won't pass and then what?? Go ahead? Then what? I posted here below that Alan has NO PLAN. NO idea how to go forward and quite frankly neither he or Doug ever was able to say what exactly they wanted in new media, etc etc.... They just keep saying we can do better
The last thing i am gonna do is a man with no plan a loaded weapon of an SAV to get a deal. MF has lied before and will continue to lie to actors to serve their agenda no matter what it does to the membership.
SO? Are you serious? No where in the history of ANY union has anyone seen a sitting president suing his current union that is paid to represent? How can that be corruption?
are you making this up as you go? BRIBES? WOW. You are truly lost in space. Bribes? Wow. wow and wow. That is most unfounded piece of crap i have ever seen. I am sending you quotes from an actual meeting where Alan says he has NO PLAN. You people voting No are literally following a man who has no idea on what to do next? Sure vote it down.....then we will........wait he doesn't have any clue.
To use your words "No where in the history of ANY [ths SAG] union has anyone seen the AMPTP go back and revisit and/or renegotiate a contract once it is signed. NEVER in the history.
My point originally. VOTE NO!!
I'd love to sit and chat with you but I have an early AFTRA audition. You see, many of us SAG members are AFTRA members too, and are very blessed!!
And the other RBD meetings. This came in via e-mail.
ROSENBERGS 411″ IS REALLY A 911:
THE MAN WITH NO PLAN SAYS FOLLOW ME, FOLKS!
General membership TV/Theatrical informational meetings held in Branches across the country have revealed much about Rosenbergs quixotic mission to joust against the majority of SAGs National Board, and his crazy ideas for defeating this contract and getting a better one.
When given his head in a meeting including San Diego members he tried to commandeer the meeting, aided by MF plants in the audience claiming to be Branch members while residing in Hollywood and toeing the MF line. In other cases when faced with a chair who put a stop to his roughshod style, hes blown his top and stormed from the room for the much-needed 20th or 30th cigarette of the day.
Highlight of the Atlanta meeting: this exchange was reported between Rosenberg and members when asked about a plan going forward from the NO voters and the possibility of a strike.
Rosenberg: Were a long way from a strike.
A Member: OK, then whats your plan?
Rosenberg: My plan? My plan is to defeat the TV/Theatrical contract, and seek a strike authorization from the members.
A Member: So, say the TV/Theatrical contract fails by a really narrow margin. Like 53-47%. How do you expect to achieve a 75% strike authorization, then?
No answer to that one, other then:
Rosenberg: Well, I hope they vote it up.
Rosenberg said hed take the strike authorization vote back to the AMPTP and urge a restart of negotiations.
If they refused, Rosenberg said the issue would go to SAGs National Board to decide whether to vote for a strike.
And to that vote Rosenberg said, I have no idea at the end of the day how Id vote on the strike authorization. He repeated the same phrase nearly verbatim at a meeting that included members from Florida, Pittsburgh and other regions.
You heard right.
Rosenberg, SAGs National President, is asking SAG members to follow the man with no plan.
• Has a statistically impossible challenge: to achieve a 75% strike authorization when this TV/Theatrical vote, no matter how it plays out, will quite likely be a dead heat;
• Includes a return to the AMPTP to ask for more than was agreed to by AFTRA, DGA, WGA and IATSE, and to which the AMPTP has promised there will be no response;
• Ensures we no longer negotiate concomitant with the other unions in two years;
• Depends on a National Board Member vote that even he has no idea how he will vote upon;
• Guarantees a strike in the worst economic climate in world history.
As to why this contract needs to be defeated, Rosenberg trotted out an old favorite at the Atlanta meeting: blame someone else. Not Canada or AFTRA or the Branches or the NY Division this time, but the DGA.
Rosenberg: Thanks to the DGA, even if we got everything we wanted, this would still be a lousy deal.
We believe Rosenberg is deluded and tilting at windmills with no possibility of victory. And he wants every member in the country as his Sancho Panza. Don Quixote, of course, was insane with delusions of grandeur and power as he charged at the whirling blades.
The membership cant follow the man with no plan in the same way —
To use your word "no where in the history of ANY [the SAG} union has anyone seen" AMPTP go back and revisit and/or renegotiate any contract once it is signed.
My original point and the point of VOTE NO SAG members.
I'd love to chat but I've gotta get up early for an AFTRA audition tomorrow, you see I can and do work both unions, so I am blessed!! Good nite!
typical argument - yet you and everyone voting no on this horrible premise wont' take the time to understand what you are really gaining. how much do you want? The amount of money generated online don't match what you make via broadcast because the ad revenue can't match it. FACT Ask anyone who buys ads.
Good luck tomorrow. You are truly blessed Mike. to be that big and ugly and still get to work is a blessing for sure
spin it baby. Make it try to work for you. Good luck if this doesn't pass. All your P&H in SAG is gonna go away as this union withers away due to Membership First's misinformation campaign
What actors (and all residual-earning talents) need to know is that production costs are skyrocketing and it's becoming tougher and tougher to show a profit. There's too much media, too many channels, too much competition ... it's hard to break even, never mind make a profit, on most productions. So producers need to know they can keep more of the ones that are profitable, to keep all productions going.
There needs to be a happy balance somewhere. Something fair and responsible for BOTH sides.
I am not an actor. I'm an entrepreneur and a writer. Playing both sides of the fence, I can see from both perspectives. And I have to say, the ideas presented here at not good for either.
I'm not saying the contract needs to be thrown out all together. But it needs some serious revisions, exceptions, and changes before approving. This video made some excellent points, and as it stands now, I agree... vote no.
Lifeadverntur8 - for someone who is not an actor, how do you explain then even having any clue what is going on? there are over 1000 pages on this contract and Martin decides to focus on a few points and even gets those wrong.
First - I have a close friend in SAG, who referred me to this page when I wanted to understand why *HE* was voting no.
Second - I also watched another video from other actors recommending a "yes" vote. Both the pro and con videos had good points. The contract has potential, but needs to work out some details first.
Sure glad people who are voting no took the time to watch 2 videos. You sound almost as ignorant as the rest of the people voting no. Go back to being whatever you are being and leave this alone. This is who the VOTE NO crowd is targeting. Uneducated, extras and grumpy old men like RevelationJoeTess
This contract will literally throw the Elderly members of this guild out like TRASH. Some of these folks need their pre71 & 74 residuals TO EAT! Or how about the crippled Stunt people who took jobs that caused PERMANENT damage to their bodies because they were counting on residual checks from what they had done to themselves. Or the child actors, who won't even HAVE a PENSION because of this. VOTE NO for ETHICS, CONSCIENCE & YOUR FUTURE. The DAMAGE it does to the HELPLESS FAR outweighs Raises!
We are two big stars with a first look deal in place so ... ssssshh!! Let's keep it quiet that we are VOTING NO!!!
Just like our ancestor SAG members before us (Cagney, Bogey) we SUPPORT our fellow, yet less paid actors and have compassion, look we all gotta eat, and we were small once too.
We remain unpublic (remember what happend last time) BUT ARE DEFINITELY VOTING NO
Thank you for illuminating the facts that count guys. I just can't fathom why or how any SAG member would vote yes for this contract. Unless they have motivations outside of the union.
I've already voted NO and I sincerely hope the facts and dangers of the contract reach enough members to send the AMPTP back to the table.
I am in favor of a STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE. Had we done that last June we would have had our deal within WEEKS.
Just like with ACTRA. They didn't even have to strike.
are you they dumb mckaystewart? ACTRA? Why didn't they strike?? Maybe because they had no other union (I.e. AFTRA) with labor peace already working a contract doing the same exact thing.
People. Get a clue. Watch all the videos. QUit following the herd. VOTE YES
I'm with McKay. It's actually your dialog that appears clueless. I did my homework, and clearly beyond any shadow of a doubt, the only informed vote is NO.

The Record is stuck.I tried, you don't want solutions, you just want to win arguments, with nonsequiturs. Hope you don't infect too many people with your venom.
Its not venom Tom. What do you plan on doing if it doesn't pass? Tell me where SAG is. you can vote no ,but you better hope there is a miracle because the AMPTP aint gonna cave
I don't have the characters on here to lay out a plan which we've already negotiated with a like organization; and the AMPTP will discuss with us if they want to resume making their big ass tentpole movies. I don't know if enough people have enough sense to vote this contract down, but a new formula is needed, it will come, and we will be ready.
Okay. Keep thinking that. You have in your statement "I don't know"
That is the problem. You don't and no one does. The amount of money that you could get in return from a strike would never recoup what was lost.
The commercial industry has never yet recovered from 2000. The same people who said this "we can get a better deal" or themembership first support group and its PR, are saying it again.

Lets get a contract in there, and build our strength now!
skyguy1012 2 years ago
It is important to get a foothold NOW in New Media (which, think about it... is not even really established yet) and we negotiate better deals in contracts to come. If Producers are using non-union actors while we're on the picket line, we lose. Yes means NOT PERFECT (but is this a perfect world?) It means we have a foothold and a good chance to gain more ground next contract. NO MEANS WE GO BACK TO THE TABLE, IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE TO MAKE ANY MORE CONCESSIONS WHATSOEVER, AT ANY TIME.
skyguy1012 2 years ago
I certainly have lots of respect for the actore here, but am voting YES. Am I happy with this contract? No. It is not perfect, but what negotiated contract is "perfect"?
A conflict with my Burger King Commercial running along side an endorsement of a Big Mac in a TV show is not right... but a worse (and more probable problem by 10,000%) is not having any contract at all.
If "No" wins... the Producers will celebrate. Their goal is to BUST THE UNION COMPLETELY.
skyguy1012 2 years ago
We HAD a contract--the OLD one that we were working under the entire time, which offered us much more protections than this piece of steaming sh it that the ignorant members ratified because they were told it would mean they would all have tons and tons of work. WHERE IS THE WORK?

MrActordad 2 years ago

Meanwhile working actors who actually get paid the union minimum, and most need the protection of the union, are FOR the contract.
marcdarn 2 years ago
The difference here is that our situation IS PERMANENT. We are being blamed for the whole damn ECONOMY when WE ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES. We'll NEVER get back what we give up now. It's a DEATH SENTENCE. It's disgusting that people think we should DESTROY THIS ENTIRE PROFESSION because THEY are having financial trouble. WE are having financial trouble.

Bungleboy 2 years ago
So they say by 2011 we can ALL strike, not so easy, because the AMPTP is planning again to stockpile more films so they can wait out a strike way longer than all the unions can who work paycheck to paycheck.
Listen, let the SAG union take this hit for everyone, we've heard plenty of actor jokes before and face public ridicule all the time -- so we can take it.
If SAG wins ALL the other unions will WIN too!
I hope you can see that and thank you for your support!
TheSeer100 2 years ago 6
It's not just in the media business -- look at the credit card companies, (banks), insurance companies, etc. more greedy CEOs causing an economic turndown and wreaking havoc.
SAG is trying to keep its piece of the pie, that's all. And quite frankly SAG was out there supporting IATSE and WGA just recently on their contracts. And now, since those unions have signed they are becoming dissatisfied as the reality of their contracts is setting in and they don't like it.
TheSeer100 2 years ago 7
SAG has the power if we all VOTE NO. It's the only way to guarantee a better contract!
Our only chance to renegotiate a better deal for our futures as SAG members is to VOTE NO!!!

"Hellooo Mr. Frog!" called the scorpion "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?"
"Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the frog hesitantly.
"Because," the scorpion replied, "If I kill you, I would die too, for I cannot swim!"
TheBigStarz 2 years ago
Now this seemed to make sense to the frog.
TheBigStarz 2 years ago
So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river.
When they arrived safely across the river, the frog felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back.
"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Why on earth did you do that?"
The scorpion shrugged, and smiledat the dying frog.
"I could not help myself. It is just my nature."

After watching all the youtube videos and reading all the emails, it occurred to me: If this contract divides the union and its members so deeply, how can it be the right thing for us? If actors were to disagree only slightly and on a few issues or details, then it would be different. But as deeply as a division this contract has caused, maybe they should go back to the negotiating table and get a deal that most of us can agree on for the most part.
blondfrog1 2 years ago

When a man agrees to a contract framework, but when his NED is fired for not doing his job, he turns on the guild and sues it (Current) and then says the deal is bad.....
yayayarat 2 years ago
Hey, I'm totally confused... I do believe in 5 years everyone in America and soon the world will have a computer screen hanging on their wall instead of a flat screen and "digital cable" will not be cable but simply the internet. You will be able to type in a show & watch it instantly. No more dvds, video, blue ray.. just beautiful internet.
starringnadiawit 2 years ago
That said, I'm sure once the producers see that they can hire anyone union/ non union (there are fine non union actors I'm sure)... whats the point of us? And I just want to know what Martin Sheen, Ed Harris, or even all the c & d list celebs in the yes vote video would say to me... I like Tom and George but lets face it they are HUGE celebs of the 80s 90s and giganto producers of the 2000s. The contract helps them significantly!
starringnadiawit 2 years ago
Yeah we should just sacrifice other peoples' lives on a gamble-the Elderly Members, the Stuntpeople, the Background performers, and EVERYONE below star level. That's a plan. For a few thousand dollars being waved in front of your heartless face right now, we should throw everyone else under the bus. Wow! What Integrity! What Honor! I sure hope you're next to me watching my back in the next war I fight in, because you really know how to protect people! Vote No for yourself and your fellow members
RevelationJoeTess 2 years ago
That is hilarious. You don't even know the contract. you should run for membership first.
The residuals pre 71 are bad. I know that, BUT i ask you what to about the majority of the union who currently works post 71? Okay, I will give you residuals pre 71. Great, what are you giving back? That is how this works. Go ahead tell me?
You say few thousand dollars -? MILLIONS!! 85 million lost already. More coming each day.
yayayarat 2 years ago
VOTE NO actors. The new contract is bad! The producers cannot be trusted.
History has proven it - never in the history of any SAG contract has the AMPTP gone back to renegotiate an issue - even when they've promised they would. But we should believe them now? I don't think so.
I highly recommend voting no. But, you do want you want - only don't come crying when new media takes off and you are getting ripped royally on residuals.
TheSeer100 2 years ago
Or sacrifice the guaranteed 100 of millions of dollars in wages and P&H for something that is 3% of the tv viewing AND is has been agreed upon by producers to begin from scratch in 2011.
Smart idea to Vote YES. Not sacrifice your life on a gamble
yayayarat 2 years ago
Here is something for all you Ed Harris, Martin Sheen and Rob Schnieder Fans out there who think they are fighting for you the actor. They are all producers as well. you people call Tom Hanks and George Clooney names for wanting to vote yes because they are "Producers" So is Ed, Martin and Rob. Rob Schnieder is as much of schill as anyone.
yayayarat 2 years ago
I am voting no, so should you!
TheSeer100 2 years ago
2011 contractualy written on opening the books is where ? in this, unratified contract ?. Sure It's not easy to get a company to show the union the books. From what I read the SAG p&w was started over residuals before 1960.WGA and aftra fought their battles.Don't depend on someone else to fight our battles. The threat of a strike is leverage and we don't even have a veiled threat lol
1SECRETBILLY 2 years ago
SAG is an amazing guild and I am a proud member, but I am also smart enough to know when to fight and when to realize you are outmatched.
yayayarat 2 years ago
If we vote yes the newspaper boy will be able to cash our checks. We don't need the sun to rise( SUNRISE) clause to see that the residuals will go in the producers pockets.the only thing worse than a strike is a contract we can't live with.Vote no ! Jobs with justice i'll be there
1SECRETBILLY 2 years ago
We won't standing alone
yayayarat 2 years ago
Reminder to all actors, get those ballots back before June 9th and VOTE NO!
AMPTP [i.e. Peter Chernin, Robert Iger and Barry Meyers] said they intend to eliminate residuals forever. There are no more Ancillary Markets, theres only one market. We need a new system. Quoted verbatim.
The "new system" is $26 in residuals for 3 free weeks then 6 months of online streaming. WE MUST RENEGOTIATE!
Nat'l Director David White: "this deal sucks", SAG's President Rosenberg says VOTE NO!
girlygirlindahood 2 years ago
All mgmt wants to eliminate residuals - FACT. They have in every negotiation. Don't follow Membership First belief systems - They are responsible for the 2000 commercial Strike. The breaking of the agency franchise agreement and now this. $26 is higher of % for reruns than we have ever gotten in DVDs. This is a new medium that is not profitable - See the big picture.
Remember Alan Rosenberg created the $26 plan, approved it when Doug Allen was in power and now he has turned and says vote no

its time for background to organize our own strike!

I already voted yes.
hwdstrn 2 years ago

TheSeer100 2 years ago 2
and back in mid-2008 on the unofficial poll of SAG members, 80% said they WOULD vote for a strike authoriziation vote (SAV). Since this deal is unchanged since then -- the same holds true. 80% of SAG would then vote now for a SAV.
TheSeer100 2 years ago 2
"unofficial poll" You mean the one spread by Membership First? Yep that one that they didn't send out almost a year ago? Don't blame the moderates. THey had the majority. They dropped the ball and SAG was left blowing in the wind. Go back to 2000 - MF said "strike, we can get the advertisers to give in" NEVER HAPPENED! Commercial industry has never recovered. the Agency agreement - Membership first said, they will come back to us. They need us. I am still waiting. Enough - YES VOTE
yayayarat 2 years ago
Yes, he has a plan and he says in his interviews and I quote "if we get to an SAV, I don't know that I would vote for it".
That is a plan allright. When in the HISTORY of any negotiation in any industry after there already labor peace with all other unions has mgmt gone back and renegotiated? NEVER. June 30 is 1 year without a deal. 1 year and MILLIONS of dollars. That money will never be recovered.
Not sure what poll you making up, but an SAV didn't have enough to pass in October polls

1) go back to the AMPTP for a better offer
2) if [when, that's my editorializing] they dont give a better offer, get a strike authorization
3) go back to the AMPTP for a better offer
4) if they dont give a better offer, STRIKE

By the time his "dream scenario" would be complete it would be the end of this year and you are looking at almost 2 years of no raises in minimums. Nothing. That is 6% of money you will NEVER get back. Think about that folks.
That and your leader says he isn't sure if he would even vote for a SAV? Really?? WOW. Sounds like you guys are following a man into a burning building with no protection
VOTE YES
yayayarat 2 years ago

They just keep saying we can do better

your leader via Sagwatch (dot) net
And the other RBD meetings. This came in via e-mail.
ROSENBERGS 411″ IS REALLY A 911:
THE MAN WITH NO PLAN SAYS FOLLOW ME, FOLKS!
General membership TV/Theatrical informational meetings held in Branches across the country have revealed much about Rosenbergs quixotic mission to joust against the majority of SAGs National Board, and his crazy ideas for defeating this contract and getting a better one.
yayayarat 2 years ago
cont
When given his head in a meeting including San Diego members he tried to commandeer the meeting, aided by MF plants in the audience claiming to be Branch members while residing in Hollywood and toeing the MF line. In other cases when faced with a chair who put a stop to his roughshod style, hes blown his top and stormed from the room for the much-needed 20th or 30th cigarette of the day.
yayayarat 2 years ago
Highlight of the Atlanta meeting: this exchange was reported between Rosenberg and members when asked about a plan going forward from the NO voters and the possibility of a strike.
Rosenberg: Were a long way from a strike.
A Member: OK, then whats your plan?
Rosenberg: My plan? My plan is to defeat the TV/Theatrical contract, and seek a strike authorization from the members.
yayayarat 2 years ago
A Member: So, say the TV/Theatrical contract fails by a really narrow margin. Like 53-47%. How do you expect to achieve a 75% strike authorization, then?
No answer to that one, other then:
Rosenberg: Well, I hope they vote it up.
Rosenberg said hed take the strike authorization vote back to the AMPTP and urge a restart of negotiations.
If they refused, Rosenberg said the issue would go to SAGs National Board to decide whether to vote for a strike.
yayayarat 2 years ago
And to that vote Rosenberg said, I have no idea at the end of the day how Id vote on the strike authorization. He repeated the same phrase nearly verbatim at a meeting that included members from Florida, Pittsburgh and other regions.
You heard right.
Rosenberg, SAGs National President, is asking SAG members to follow the man with no plan.
yayayarat 2 years ago
A no plan that:
• Has a statistically impossible challenge: to achieve a 75% strike authorization when this TV/Theatrical vote, no matter how it plays out, will quite likely be a dead heat;
• Includes a return to the AMPTP to ask for more than was agreed to by AFTRA, DGA, WGA and IATSE, and to which the AMPTP has promised there will be no response;
• Ensures we no longer negotiate concomitant with the other unions in two years;
yayayarat 2 years ago
• Depends on a National Board Member vote that even he has no idea how he will vote upon;
• Guarantees a strike in the worst economic climate in world history.
As to why this contract needs to be defeated, Rosenberg trotted out an old favorite at the Atlanta meeting: blame someone else. Not Canada or AFTRA or the Branches or the NY Division this time, but the DGA.
yayayarat 2 years ago
Rosenberg: Thanks to the DGA, even if we got everything we wanted, this would still be a lousy deal.
We believe Rosenberg is deluded and tilting at windmills with no possibility of victory. And he wants every member in the country as his Sancho Panza. Don Quixote, of course, was insane with delusions of grandeur and power as he charged at the whirling blades.
The membership cant follow the man with no plan in the same way —

What actors (and all residual-earning talents) need to know is that production costs are skyrocketing and it's becoming tougher and tougher to show a profit. There's too much media, too many channels, too much competition ... it's hard to break even, never mind make a profit, on most productions. So producers need to know they can keep more of the ones that are profitable, to keep all productions going.
There needs to be a happy balance somewhere. Something fair and responsible for BOTH sides.
lifeadventurer8 2 years ago
I am not an actor. I'm an entrepreneur and a writer. Playing both sides of the fence, I can see from both perspectives. And I have to say, the ideas presented here at not good for either.
I'm not saying the contract needs to be thrown out all together. But it needs some serious revisions, exceptions, and changes before approving. This video made some excellent points, and as it stands now, I agree... vote no.
