Due to the fact that this is android x86, does it have google apps (gmail, android market, google talk, voice search) installed? If not, do you know how to get it installed? If it doesn't have google apps (particularly the android market/gmail), it seems almost pointless to have android on it, since the preinstalled app store has a very limited selection of apps.

I've preinstalled android x86 2.2 in a VM and without the google apps, it was all useless. No success installing google apps yet.

WTF Viewpad 10 is definitely not designed by Viewsonic. They just buy the tablet in china and put their brand name on it. I saw even there is a viewpad like tablet in Hong Kong called Unifox, they already have Android 2.2 on the tablet which is faster than Viewsonic.

The Viewsonic 10.1 tablet got a really bad review with 1.6 Android. Will the upgrade to the 2.2 Android make a big difference??

@wwood14 it got bad review because the stock rom that it came with was garbage(lag n very slow)..if you root it and put a custom rom on it. it will work as good as any motorola xoom, ipad2 etc only diffrence its only 512mb of ram.

Neat device...but the best Windows tablet I have ever used is the ExoPC. I suggest anyone interested in a tablet...google search ExoPC!

Look how THICK and bulky it is. Just buy a Tegra 2 based tablet which is half as thick and simply remote into a real PC if you need Windows. That Atom 1.6ghz isnt going to run anything in Windows so whats the point???

@EvoPortal Remote into windows from an android or ios tablet. Then plug it into a printer and ... oh ya android and ios can't print natively through usb. I can now access my quickbooks online from a tablet, but the only thing that will let me print an invoice out of a printer in my trunk is a PC of some sort, be that tablet or laptop. Now I can have my work based os and my time waster download apps to my hearts content os on one device. Niche maybe but sounds pretty sweet to me.

IPAD SUCKS wont communicate with your main e-mail like comcast when you delete your e-mail with ipad then check your e-mail on your pc you will notice that your e-mail still there and not deleted

U need to use IMAP(not POP3), Gmail or Exchange :)

And with Samsung Galaxy Tab you could if you install the European Firmware and a little bit of hacking to it.... you can make calls on Galaxy Tab too. But to answer on what you wanted to know you can make call from View Sonic 7 only. The 10, I really don't know. On Galaxy Tab the USA version they removed the call feature it was requested by the Networks in the USA. But in Europe Germany the call feature is on.

dont get it from Sear's they had their information wrong!!!! the one of sear's is actually the G-tablet that isnt dual boot. yesterday they had that it was but today they changed the information. i was thinking about buying one too but glad that i didnt preorder. Sear's said that it was running Windows and Android 2.2 which isnt possible. Today they changed it totally saying that it isnt a dual boot tablet anymore that it is the G tablet. At the moment I wouldn't by the device because the performance of Windows looked fairly mediocre but the concept of both Android and Windows on a device such as this is ingenious. It is JUST what I am looking for. If they have a final model out before I'm drawn to another tablet I'm sold.
