@NaruIchiLatino97 because its actually the WNBC theme song. BOTN WNBC and WNJU are owned by the same company and even had similar graphics at one point
I really like the WNBC opening with the detailed intro with a slower signature NBC gong tune, its my favorite. I wish the intro was similar with KNBC here in L.A. The current KNBC is pretty much the same boring intro with the NBC's around the country except it says "Los Angeles".
I absolutely love the closer in this video... the graphics... the "HD" wave (whatever you want to call it) broadcasting from Rockefeller Center.... the booming voice reminding the viewer that WNBC was the first station to bring us high-definition (in the tri-state area is what he meant, considering the promo aired only in the New York market... )... I wish they would bring the promo back and attach it to the new promos... :(
Digital TV signals are square wave pulses thus square waves shooting from 30 Rock. WNBC actually transmits these "square waves" from the Empire State Building.
I have to agree -- as good as WNBC's opens have looked, they're still not quite "perfect" when they just show the anchors names. It's just weird having names and no headshots. Almost looks like we're watching an unfinished product.
well at least it's better than other news openings that features their anchors as if they're celebrities and that they are what's making news, rather than what actually is making news.
KING 5 NEWS OR KOMO 4 NEWS in Seattle do not have boring news openers like this. This was way boring. The new 2008 KING 5 NEWS opener really is jazzed and gets you excited for news.
Interestingly, they (Ch 4&5 )are combined into the same transmitter antenna on the Empire State Bldg because they are close in frequency, and there isnt room for 10,000 antennas up there like there was on World Trade.
Here's the story. Television was born in NYC by RCA's W2XBS in 1928. 1931-transmitting from the Empire State Bldg . In short, W2XBS morphed into WNBC-TV CH.1. WNBC gave birth to television. NY is the birthplace and home to TV.The people here who invented it take second place to nobody. In the "We're 4 New York"promo the words"Lets show the world how it's done" says it all. WNBC retains its uniqueness over the O/Os They are the network flagship station. 1st TV station on the air 1st in HD news.
Yeah. When i looked at this logo,i was wondering why they moved the peacock up to make way for the text "HD".But i understand now that local stations are emphasizing that their newscasts are in Hi Def.However,in NY,WABC doesn't do that even though they have HD newscasts. But hey,Washington's NBC 4 is an NBC O&O,and maybe you'll go HD sometime soon.I'm visited Washington many times because i live in Baltimore and i've heard that another one of your stations is in Hi Def (WUSA-9/CBS).
WNBC has changed the opening a bit. Now all the openings has been replaced by the short opening, which is used during the Today Show news breaks. So, it goes from the WNBC ID Card, to NewsChannel4 Card, to the anchor desk, (no anchors are announced). Its alright with me, since the HD opening wasn't that great compared to the 2003 opening.
I guess they just want to skip the talent & get straight to the news.I was in Elizabeth,NJ for holiday vacation hoping i'd see the talent open at 11 around Christmas 07 but instead i got the short open.
Yes, using Pyburns designs. The AH only elaborated on Pyburns design. So the credit goes to Pyburn. Also to correct myself the ArtHouse is now named ArtWorks Texas.
Sorry Stealth, hate to bust your bubble but you're wrong. I have an inside source. I know the lead senior designer at ArtWorks. Wait...that would be me. I was a lead on this project. We only elaborated on Pyburns designs.
WNBC never follows other NBC O&O's. Nope, they follow WNBC. Think about it. KNBC used the red line lower thirds for a while, WTVJ used to have WNBC's pre-HD graphics, and KNTV & some Telemundo stations copied WNBC graphics, pre-HD & HD.
I have to admit, I just hate this. It's the worst WNBC open since ... hell, since they've had opens. You'd have to go back to at least the early '70s to find a less-stirring open.
I like the crystal clear picture. The writing and the peacock are amazing, the way they're so much more clear. I would like it even better if they put the "4 New York" back in the voice-over. I agree that the close with the NBC 4 HD promo ruins the news theme. It kind of distracts from what WNBC is trying to accomplish--bringing people the news they need.
Agreed. It's also teeth grinding when TV stations spend every living moment patting themselves on the back with glossy music & imagery of some damn AP/press club/Emmy or some other trade industry trophy they picked up. Just show me the quality of your journalism & then I'll believe you earned it. Almost anyone can get an award for *something* lately, so I'm not sure why they still bother blinging us to death with them.
wow wgrz buffalo still uses this old type of gui
