During that period the marriage was more a social affair than a love union, Cathy is a woman belonging her time, she loves Heathcliff but he isn't a social good husband. I hope my English is undrstandable, if it isn't so, sorry me :)
I never read the book, so i might not get the moral of Cathy's. To me when i watched this movie, Cathy Loved Heathcliff more than the other guy but she loved being rich&ect also. Is that why she picked the other guy
My, he (Olivier) was beautiful! His is the face I always associate with Heathcliff. Love the music to these clips. Wonderfully executed, thank you for posting.
One almost feels sorry for Cathy looking through the window the way her face lights up, a foot in both worlds and torn between the two. Her and Heathcliff are one and the same, children of the moors, wild, rugged, stormy and untethered. They love and despise with equal passion. His miseries were her miseries. So sad. Wonderful film.
what a great vid but i would loved to have seen it as the film ended, with heathcliffe carrying cathy across the bedroom to the window, and then as they both ran hand in hand up to the tor, and fading out, the greatest love story ever put onto film, i cry every time i watch it, "so come on Minatour" new vid with proper ending thank's
I love this video! ( as you can see from my comments) I found a new friend thru this vid and we share some common music. 74posy. But her page is closed! Any info if she's coming back would be appreciated. Thanx
what a fantastic video !!!! very well done indeed. I adore this song , Kate is the best !! it always conjurs up that certain air of mystery and resentment that Heathclife always carried around inside his soul. The reality was that He never actually owned his very hearts desire..... ie Kathy !! not in this world anyway , I still cry at the end of the film when he holds her in his arms at the window ........ classic.
Thank you for posting this vid with Kate Bush song. All the other kate Bush posts with this song get is,"why does she seem crazy?" I wanted to comment on all the others, "you have to see the movie that the song was written about! " But it's pointless.....you just have to see the 1939 movie from an 1847 book that you'll never be able to get out of your head after seeing it. At least you understand the song, Minatour. Thanx. Favourited and 5 stars!
Yes but thnk that younger people (20 years old) may be less accustomed to this version of the film (I think), and the advertissement for those films made its effect ...
Hey CataDanna! I agree. But this film came out 17 years before I was born, saw it when I was 15....(.wait, I have to take off my shoes to keep counting ) It was already 32 years old before I saw it! Curious people, 20 to 80 will go rent it if they want to know what Kate is singing about. If they don't want to see the movie? Who cares. We saw it....LOL Have a good one! :)
Agreed !!!! could not of put it better myself slugg63 !! I just dont want to hear the negative stuff it only makes me sad , why not give out more compliments it makes life nicer for every one. Lawrence Oliver is Heathcliffe in my minds eye always will be and Merle obermon is Kathy.

@MrPinker911 - so if women could take a concubine she'd have had no problems or dilemna's concerning any of these issues then

@helaughslikemuttley Oh yes, Olivier is the Heathcliff face, but also Ralph Fiennes is an exellent Heathcliff.

I love the story - makes a romantic out of me. Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon are classic. Kate Bush set to this clip is poetry.
