  • now this is what im talking about this is real music not that bullshit scene crap that everyone seem to be into rip rl burnside

  • Thanks for posting lupine22, cán't stop watching&listening PBMattie, Doney etc, RL great bluesman , shame I missed it as it was in Holland, with Johnny Woods at that time - anyone nows where (studio, or.. ) and when? JR from Holland

  • 1:30 min is the morebest :)))))))

  • if I could play guitar like that my life would be complete!

  • johnny woods sitting on the side ,first hype man in the game

  • About tuning , you can use open G or open A , or their variations lover -higher , the only thing is that will sound differently , I personally prefer to lover the e , B , E strings 4 steps down and the rest of them 2 steps down , the rest is in your hands to catch the rhythm of the song .

  • Come on man.....Dude is off the chain...WOW

  • Does anyone know where this video is from? or where i can find it?

  • RL BURNSIDE can pee on everyones else sense of rythm

  • is that a epiphone ????

  • The blues aint nothing but a good man feeling bad for himself. As simple as that.

  • WOW This guy is ill man nice song my humble brother R.L. Burnside R.I.P

  • This is some bad ass shit, here-

  • WOW thats was awesome!

  • North Mississippians represent!

  • Could dance his style of blues - though he is gone he has new fan!

  • my piano friend told me what the tuning was(he has like bat ears or something haha): l-h = eaeac#e

    I think its spanish tuning

  • @willwelsh816 Or just capo 4 a standard tuned guitar and play in E.

  • @willwelsh816 EAEAC#E is open A tuning if I'm not mistaken

  • @kfudnapaa yeah, i think they called it spanish tuning down there though, its basically open g too, just a whole step up

  • I called Fat Possum they said D# G# D# G# C D# low to high

  • @willwelsh816 nah man its in open G tuning, DGDGBD

  • @TheJudge442 You're on it, definitely open G.

  • @willwelsh816 - its open G tuned very sharp (almost right in between g & g#)

  • Got into RL through the "Burnside on Burnside" CD. AWESOME live album. Fans of good raw blues might also like "Rosetta West - Suzie."

  • Such a really exellent authentic musican, would have deserved more recognition. Better than the "mainstreamshit" ala Lady Gaga or Justin Biber.

  • Sooooo fuckin' GOOD....

  • hes been a smokin

  • This is Fackn Good!

  • OK so I've been listening to the blues all my life...and that thing he does at 1:27 still sounds magical!!

  • Oh myyyyyyyyyyy god............someone needs to create a new word to describe this...

  • woman I got... cherry red. Fucking A

  • I love after the breakdown that he does when he looks up at the camera like 'did you get that?'

  • 1:26 hands in the air moment for EPIC RIFF

  • @dhaeze v-chops dude

  • mindblowing

  • ...always had a roof over your head

    ...ate everyday

  • RL was the best.....my favorite take on this olde blues standard.

  • ez kibaszott jó!

  • The Blues are the blues. Music is music. It knows no gender, race, or origins. You all sound ignorant.

  • What is this thing about "British" people cant have "the blues"? Who are you to say what "the blues" is? Its a very strange view you people have of England aswel. Accents have nothing to do with these songs.

  • I´m still addicted to this song and R.L.´s style

  • rl in his younger days, pristine, I love it/wynn richardson/baton rouge

  • Need no heat or fireplace by my bed, woman i got, cherry red

  • Well, weeell, well. Thank y'all, thank y'all.

  • Not sure joeppelt.net is right. Try open A flat--> Eflat A flat Eflat A flat C E flat. Or open G (D-G-D-G-B-D) capo 1.

  • that thing he does at 1:27 just blows me away everytime

  • You ain't got the Blues if...

...you play your music on a $4000 guitar

...you've never worn used clothes before

    ...both your shoes fit you

...you get along with your in-laws

...you check your stockmarket wealth on your smartphone

...you sing your songs with a brittish accent

  • @Rottmad what if you sold all of that for your guitar?

  • @Rottmad - you are ABSOLUTELY correct. i would add (if i may)

...if you use computers to make your sound

    ...you have a $3000 amp

    ...have socks with no holes

  • @Rottmad Amen! fuckin accents!

  • @Rottmad ..... you may have the blues if ........ you got a middle[ + ]scar and joodas cut ur hood :(

  • @Rottmad

Anyone can have blues! Rich man blues, poor man blues, planet earth and the fact that we are burdened with work = blues...... duh

  • @Rottmad so ur saying money brings u happiness

  • @Rottmad: dam' right Rottmad. U got it.

  • @Rottmad amen

  • @Rottmad FUCK YEAH!

  • @Rottmad your comment was the light in a long, long tunnel of moronic bullshit and ignorance.

  • @Rottmad So if I've worn clothes I do have the blues?

  • @Rottmad I guess what I really mean is; this man had no fancy amp or effects to record with, just a simple six string and a microphone...and plenty of blues, and he needed no fancy clothes to impress his audience neither, it's all from the heart, baby!!!

  • @Rottmad Too damn true !!

  • @Rottmad in all fairness about the last one, a lot of British blues greats didn't have any of that stuff you mentioned above... some of 'em came from poverty.

  • @Rottmad What's a "British" accent ?

  • @Rottmad: Does it still count if I don't HAVE in-laws? :-D

  • What if you have these things but you're a manic depressive? Do you have the blues then? Or do you have the manic depressive?

  • @blackprincess82 hmm, good point. Sometimes, maybe too much of a good thing is a bad thing. That would explain why a lot of stars start to flip out every now and then.

....do we need to rewrite the rules???

  • @Rottmad while i agree with the statement the british things is soooooo wrong PETE GREEN, SYD BARRET ( pre floyd) JOHN MAYEL , EARLY ROD STEWART , THEM, TEN YEARS AFTER , STEVE WINWOOD IF YOU WANT ILL BANG OUT SOME MORE BRITISH BLUES THE USA ALWAYS FORGETS THAT THEY FORGOT AND SHOVED THE BLUES UNDER THE CARPET ONLY FOR THE BRITISH BLUES EXPLOSION TO ALOW IT TO BE REFOUND IN THE USA WHAT IM SAYING IS STOP BITCHING AND LISTEN LISTEN TO EVERYTHING YOU CAN AND ENJOY peace

  • @Rottmad you ain't got the blues if...

you use a cliche in every sentenced you write on youtube comments.

  • @Rottmad

You stink of cliche. Go die or occupy something; whiney little twit.

  • @Psychodarity back up! Money ain't got no soul-

  • @Rottmad so wealth=happiness?

  • @Rottmad you don't got the blues if you're as smug as you.

  • @Rottmad That's cute. This whole 99% shit has to stop though. Just because you can pull out a loan for a $4000 guitar or $30 for a pair of shoes doesn't mean you don't know the blues.

  • @Rottmad JOHN. GODDAMN. BALDRY.

    that is all.

  • @Rottmad you ain't got the blues if.... well there are no rules in music so !!

  • @Rottmad actually RL Burnside himself said "anybody can have the blues"

  • @Rottmad Hugh Laurie disagrees with you. Check some of his songs out if you don't believe me.

  • @Rottmad you aint got the blues if you make up stupid rules

  • @Rottmad are you occupying wall street by chance?

  • @Rottmad my friend, everyone has sorrow. some choose to turn a blind eye, others explore. doesn't matter what guitar you have, what clothes you wear, what shoes fit, who your in-laws are, what phone you have, or what language you speak. open up.

  • @Rottmad so damn true

  • This is the best video. It's the best one. Ever.

  • Look at his face at 1:25 - 1:37 while he lays down that HYPNOTIC riff. Brilliant.

  • The Man Fkn Rocks! Then, Now and Forever!

  • Beautiful Guitar Playing ,Great Riff,Great Sound Cheers from Canada.is This Gentalman Still Alive ,?? Any One Know ?/

  • @SUNNYRHOADES9 died in '05, he was 84 years old.

  • Beautiful Guitar Playing ,Great Riff,Great Sound Cheers from Canada.

  • wow this is great!

  • dat's what i'm talkin' about!!!

  • uh..ralphie ole boy...is it just ok for us to like this artist for his contribution? I mean, do we all have to buy into the whole competition crap you seem to want?

  • This guy's groove is tighter than a 10 day drunk

  • still like him on acoustic - old school - isn't he the guy who said more than one chord is just too many :D

  • RL Be Da Man!!!!

  • RL's rhythm = indestructible.

  • Johnny Woods looks ripped.

  • @diggitydeez The whole advantage of bein an old black dude is you could be stoned out of your gourd and who would notice?

  • Few bluesmen could ever come close to the amount of soul in his pinky finger. Its sad that so many brilliant artists live their lives in obscurity in small towns only to be discovered by "the industry" after they died or close to it.

  • Glad someone archived this!

  • terrific

  • Anyone know the tuning for this?

  • @canacourse

Just Google "RL Burnisde open tuning"

  • @canacourse it's in open A, E-A-E-A-C flat-e, with the D, G, and B strings up two postitions

  • @canacourse it's in open A, E-A-E-A-C flat-e, with the D, G, and B strings up two postitions

  • BURNSIDE...SIDEBURNS!!!!

  • Burnside is the Man!!!

  • this guy just freakin rocks!!!

  • a further thought mrralphcox2...where may we go on here to listen to your chanel or view some vids.....i think the comparison would be interesting,

  • mrralphcox2 i usually do not respond to such arrogant statements as yours about r.l. but i could not ignore these. this guy is a blues legend....who are you again? simple is beautiful as far as the blues are concerned...that is their essence.i grew up in the delta and know a few things about the blues myself though i do not claim to be the utmost authority as you have implied you are. with the background you claim to have you should be a little further along than the "having played with" stage.

  • Most guys who think this guy is some kind of God have never even listened to Blind Lemon Jefferson. This is childs play compared to Lemon. Blind Lemon was a truly GREAT guitarist!

  • R.L. is using the "clawhammer" approach with alot of damping. Getting the right groove is the difficult part. Most guitarists make the mistake of playing blues on top of the beat. Ya have to lay back on the 2 and the 4. I've tried to teach it to people but it's something one learns from playing countless gigs and LISTENING! I've seen a couple of guys on youtube teaching this song incorrectly.

  • I've been playin guitar, mostly blues for almost 40 years. Played and toured with the Luther Allison Band. Also played with Lowell Fulson,Kim Wilson,Luther Tucker,Walter Horton and on and on. Did shows with everyone from Muddy Waters to Howlin Wolf. I know what the heck I'm talkin about. I like R.L 's playin and it probably is a little tricky for the neophyte player. But I'm way beyond that stage.

  • The fact it looks so simple must indicate that it is so hard to play like that.

  • I didn't say I disliked R.L. He's just a mediocre country bluesman. He's certainly listenable. On another level he's a John lee Hooker clone. Anyone who knows anything about the blues will tell you the same. Except John lee Hooker is about a zillion times better singer and songwriter. I would suggest you learn something about country blues before spouting off.

  • whoever dislikes this should be taken in the retard house

  • People on this site need to listen to Robert Johnson,Blind Blake,Blind Willie McTell or Blind Willie Johnson. Anyone of those guys woulda cleaned old RL's clock in a second.

  • @MrRalphcox2 Good for them?

  • This guy was a B squad country bluesman. This song is very simple to play. Most guitarists nowadays don't know how to play fingerstyle at all so this song seems impressive. To those of us who know how to use our right hands it isn't. Took me about 3 minutes to figure out. Compared to guys like Blind Blake and Gary Davis this song is very simple indeed.

Oh, by the way, I played a gig once at a small festival in Phoenix with him on the show also. Wasn't that impressive

  • @MrRalphcox2 you have no soul lol

i think it's well technical the way he plays it, he's doing 3 parts. and he adds a beat at the beggining of a verse and takes it back at the end.

and you can't compare it to blind blake cos that is a completely different style.

i honestly don't belive that you got his right hand technique in 3 minutes, it took me months to get right

  • @MrRalphcox2 Thanks, and let's hear it for being a complete elitist jackass. Thanks, no, thank you, for being suck an elitist sounding a-hole about music that people love. No no, thank you....and your name was again??? Wait, that's right, no one knows who Mr. Ralph Cox is... Go find another cause besides pumping up your own ego.

  • And people say Joe Bonamassa is blues.

  • Seems no matter what I do...this is the first song I ever heard R.L. do and I always come back to it....not matter how long...days, years, months... I always seem to come back.

  • @beanepods

Me too, so awesome. I stared at the screen the first year trying to figure out what he's doing....still trying to figure out heh.

  • Pure gold.... What a great grove..

  • piece of heaven

  • The man was a god.

  • 8 dislikes... racism is the only explanation.

  • i got to see him live at least three or four times. it's cool seeing him as a younger man in these tapes. he was a true badass.

  • Hell of a fucking smile he had,A true legend

  • I've watched all the tutorials describing how to play this....what R. L. is playing looks simple, but I've not seen anyone who can duplicate the sound he's getting out of the guitar.

  • @aceroadholder Yeah completely. He is tuned up a half step here, I think the camcorder mic helps too. But the percussive twangs he gets are crazy. He is doing some palm mute rythym that gives it a mad swing. Good luck this is hard to get a good feel on!

  • thumb up

  • Dig that blues!

  • You see him smilin' and you smile too, that's happines

  • This man knows what's music

  • Great!!!

  • That's some guitar playing dude.

  • Why do people keep bringing up John Mayer?!?!?

  • @vollsticks B/C theyre brains r so full of bullshit they can't even enjoy RL w/o having to compare and contrast. I blame TV

  • @livershot I don't know who to blame! And R.L Burnside doesn't sound like anyone else...not many musicians you can say that about, is there?

  • Fuck yes

  • playing and singing and being filmed with no known outlet for viewing at the time, yet nailing it...smart film maker

  • playing and singing and being filmed with no known outlet for viewing at the time, yet nailing it...

  • THE ABSOLUTE BEST!

  • I hope Heaven's got a Mississippi...that's where I'm headed :)

  • Road trippin music

  • one chord wonder...he plays open g usually.

  • What cords are used here ???

  • @FIRECRACKER392 are you serious? cos if you can't tell it's just one cord, then it might take you a while to figure out his style.

  • @madFlam1 ,

Well yes i guess so,,im just learning guitar,

All i play is Dobro, and i can get almost identacle to this,

but i dont know chords yet,, just never needed to know them before,

  • Fantastic.

  • @treysyt ,

No doubt, he makes it sound like 3 guitars at once, hypnotic really,, and his When my first wife left me,, AND Jumper on the line, i cant get enough of,, I watch him and just stare at my guitars, lol

  • @FIRECRACKER392 I have "Jumper..." on a loop and listen to it hours on end--kind of like a mantra for a blues fan. If you listen carefully you can here three or more guitars. I tried to get this sound with my guitar. Ha Ha. From watching youtube videos, he played one part with the thumb, a second part with the skin of the index finger, and the third with the nail of the index finger. R.L. was an original. No one before or since with that sound. Why does this kind talent die broke?

  • i love him. he's got so much swagger. and he obviously has that rugged one chord off beat style he learnt from fred mcdowell.

  • This is pure bad-ass blues. Nothing more, nothing better. RIP - RLB

  • this guy had it all

  • he looks like he smoked a joint 10 minutes before and its starting to kick in...he keeps lookin up and around smiling....

  • god i love this man and this music so much it kills me

  • God playin the blues should sound like this

  • Nonchalant, couldn't give a shit genius! A master!

  • John Mayer isn't fit to shine this guy's shoes.

  • thats mayall and your talking utter shit pal , do your fucking home work

  • @webcityguy i HATE john mayer fucking guts !

  • @webcityguy why are whe comparing these 2 man xD ?

  • @webcityguy ...truer words never spoken!!

  • Genius.

  • Is there a loop button (auto-repeat) on youtube?
