I didn't have the correct USB cable for the Kindle Fire. (I have two different mini-USB cables that are the wrong size. I wonder how many different mini-USB cable connectors there are?) I found that I could send files to my Kindle via Amazon. Here's the basics of how to do this from a Windows PC.

Go to Amazon and search for "sendtokindle", download the program and us it to upload the file to your Amazon account. Then you can use your Amazon account page to set it to your kindle.

I don't have a kindle, but I'm considering it. Could I (for example) take a microsoft word document and turn it into this file format? If so how? Thanks!

How long should it take for books in mobi format to show up on the home screen? I've added 6 to my documents folder and none of them are showing on the home screen of my kindle 3. Anybody else have this problem?

@macconnell100 It's not a program. It's mac OS X. You can do the same thing on windows. no special software, just use the file navigation system.

@stargaz3r2 Amazons sync thing only works if you have purchased the books. you can use iBooks to put it on your iPhone, but it wont be on the same page as your kindle.

Nice vid. Brief, to the point, clear voice :) How does mobi work on the Kindle? Is it just as good/compatible as an azw file? I used Calibre to convert my epub files to mobi. Should I have converted them to azw instead?
