yea...well, different i guess. not 2 my taste...they probably deserve the name more than we do...ohwell were gonna change it sumday anyway 2 like caught 22 or sumthing
This is amazing stuff, shades of C, S& N, and Full Frontal all in one. I love it. I can only imagine what will happen with the addition of the incredible percussions of Cheryl Prashker, already one of my favorite bands just from watching this video. I can't wait to see you live in NYC.
OK Pete, I did a plug for the Strangelings with Stone Soup, Pawtucket RI., will see how my disconnected politics will carry! Looking forward to tthe April show on Long Island. I am now a full blooded Kennedys groupie!
Unfortunately I am a little old for that classification, I think. Just wanted to pass you a note, you have surpased my favorite guitar player David Bromberg, to reign KING! ( also blew Mark Knofler lower on my list!)
Interesting. Why the overtly-simplistic structures, though? Maybe it's a Celtic thing, intimating the simplicity underlying the apparent complexities of the universe. Wait, no, I've got that backward...
I wonder if this "Strangelings" combination will continue? I'll ask Pete and Maura when I see them at the FMSH concert on LI in February. - Meanwhile, thanks for the video. Very cool.
Personal Connection to these artists - I once helped Meredith carry her guitar from the parking lot to the stage at the Clearwater Festival. I spent a weekend with Pete and Maura learning Soukous music and listening to 3 great concerts in Northern NJ. I sat in a car with Pete at Falcon Ridge and let him expound on the virtues of Sirius Radio (Sorry, Pete... I bought XM).
But besides the stunning musical effect, there's a powerful visual effect as well, with the dark-clad caped wonders, the Kennedys, flanked by the almost glow-in-the-dark blonde angels the Thompson twins! A paradox, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma!
Amidst the dark shadows of Gotham City, there's Bruce Wayne with his alter-ego, The Batman. In the music world, there's Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson with their own alter-egos, the Lovemongers, and Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore has Blackmore's Night.
pretty freakin' amazing! Hippy Dippy Trippy.. in the good sense of the word! Kinda like Marc Bolin when he was Tyrannasauris Rex (Pre T.Rex)... all that wizard, Goddess, and Celtic crap!!!
Is Maura a good witch or bad witch??? Pete sure is a Wizard on that electric sitar!!!
The question is... are they as good as KIPS BAY in concert???? Answer me these questions three!!!
The Nuah Suite is a chain of myth-based, enigmatic songs, a rich blend of goddess imagery and classical themes drawn from around the world, woven into a complex fabric that flows like an orchestral sonata.
The Strangelings: two electric sitars, flute, percussion, and the ethereal voices of three beautiful women, all blended into an alchemical potion of earthy mythology and deep grooves that will have you dancing while your soul takes flight.
This is from The Strangelings debut performance 1/12/07 at P.A.C.E. in Easthampton, MA, and is the only recording of the group. Here, performing the first 10 minutes of the 40-minute "Nuah Suite", this section includes "Nuah" (The Kennedys), "Harvest Moon" (C&M Thompson) and "Tanglewood Tree" (by Dave Carter).
Nuah is the name of the first song.

oh, because really it is traditional folk music. If you do not like folk music, I understand. But for someone who does, they are incredible.

Great stuff - reminds me of the Strawbs ("From the Witchwood") crossed with Fairport Convention. Will look for their album.

As a longtime follower of "The Thompson Twins" and a fairly recent convert to The Kennedys, I am delighted to see this collaboration!

Pete is playing an elecric sitar, and Maura is also playing an electric sitar, although Maura's includes sympathetic resonating strings.

Right!! We Celts are very simplistic....it stems from the potatoes and booze.

Like light shining out of darkness -- candles in a darkened cathedral -- a Solstice bonfire on a cold wintry night.
Each of them, the Kennedys and the Thompsons, are accomplished performers and recording artists in their own right.
Together, they become weavers of strange magic, shamans of earthly delight, spinning webs of wonder and enchantment.

Kind of a cross between Ravi Shankar and Steeleye Span, or Loreena McKennitt meets the Roches!
Twin electric sitars ringing out, with twin sister's siren harmonies, all supporting Maura Kennedy's supple yet haunting, Celtic-tinged lead vocals.
Together, they cast a powerful enchanter's musical spell!
