  • O_O

  • Thank you guys for all your support and advice thought out my course in dealing with this disease, I am finally made the decision w/ my doctors to go on w/ the Orbital Decropression to inprove the bulging of the eyes! However, currently I am stable w/ proper meds. So no more hyper or hypo!! Again thank you guys so so much and may my prayers be with other in my shoes or maybe in worse!

  • hang in there bro.

  • Hi dear, I hope my experience may help you, .......The cause of the disease is depression...or some kid of stress,...I tried Yoga..this worked for me I have 60% improvement.. One of my right eye is almost near normal and left is a little bulged..It took me two years to do this.....if you can wait give some time give 180 days to yourself and learn breathing exercises (Pranayam)...this is helpful..I had also a serious problem like you .......

  • @minpinful Let me ask you 1 question, if you had this disease and I came up to you and called you "bug eyes", what would be your reaction?

  • Hey, know how you feel this is how my eyes look also due to graves. It's horrible.

  • Hey Riz, Patrick here. I'm pleased to hear your positive attitude towards this chronic disease. Unfortunately, the OD surgery is probably your only option if you want to try and look like you did before. Its a long and arduous process, but worth it in the end. I will happily share my experiences and elaborate for you. My direct email docrates1@aol.com. Keep your glass half full and I look forward to hearing from you.

  • @KingKarber CONTINUED.....However I am extremely grateful for this online community that is so helpful and I know there are many like me out there, and I want to make it clear, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, THERE ARE MANY WILLING TO HELP WHO ARE JUST LIKE US!! GOD BLESS!

  • @KingKarber Thanks very much for the love, I am Hypo now and am going thru treatment via Meds, Methamozole, but my recent visit to the NY Eye & Ear Infirmary, I was suggested by an Plastics Surgeon to go thru with the Orbital Decompression to adjust the bulging of my eyes!!!

  • So how did everything end up turning out for you? I know exactly how you feel bro. Im 26 now but when I was 17 1/2 my whole world came crashing down i had 5 scholarships to different D-1 schools for wrestling and my senior year i went to bed one night during the middle of the season and I woke up in the morning with my eyes swollen out of my head like golf balls my eye lids were stretched over them and I couldn't open them at all......It made me VERY VERY depressed.....

  • continued.....I ended up having the RAI done. I never had any eye surgery or anything like that but now its been about 8 years and they have mostly gone down. You must be one of the Super opposite of lucky ones like me cause they told me that 8 out of 10 times graves disease affects a women over men and especially not men that are 17 like I was. I have to take a thyroid pill For rest of Life like you too. They didnt even test my thyroid till my GMA told them to. well GL hope all is well.

  • @executionerofgod Unshould really get that checked out by your Optamalogist or Endo! Early sign of graves disease should be diagonsed and treated before it gets worse, like in my case! I got diagnosed late that's why my eyes are buldging!

  • i'm surprised my eyes arent bulging like yours. they probably will be very soon. my eyes have been in almost daily agony with graves disease. burning and itching. what a dreadful disease. should be called hyper irritation and discomfortism.

  • Muscle Rectus Reconstruction???

  • @agenthelios1 I agree with you on that RAI is a last resort, but what do you suggest I do about the toll it has taken on my eyes, orbital decrompestion or

  • @rugg64039 what do u mean by "does it hurt"?

  • does it hurt?

  • hey i noticed a lot of people went the RAI route, but my endo has always told me to not to take RAI if there are other options, because RAI may worsen the people who have thyroid eye disease....anyway i have a video introducing myself also check it out!

  • Radiation damn near killed me. I was too sick, levels too high should have never been done. "They" wanted to give a second round of radiation, no way. I went to MassGen and had an endocrine surgeon remove it. Eyes when down somewhat but not normal.

  • hey there..my name is lulu...=) actually, i have the same problem like yours..i was diagnosed on june 2010..i'm not scared of having thyroid or grave disease but i'm scared when people are scared of me because of my bulging eyes..and i'm wearing glasses..some people call me goldfish because of my eyes..how do u cope with it? i feel so terrible..sometimes i just lose hope to live..=(

  • Thank u for all ur support, I a will soon go through the radition too!

  • @hqhova I praying now that is more then a year you are ok you are such a young man I wish you the best where ever you are God blees you

  • @hqhova Please i neeed lelp. I suffer from exopthalmos too. But i don't have Grave disease, it is just gemetic. Could radiation hepl my case? Permanently? I hope you are better!

  • i have my hypherthyroid 2004, the eyes will go back quite a bit but definietly wont go back to normal. i have my radiation done and i dont drink any pill after radiation. im good now thanks god... get well soon.

  • Good Luck to you, I hope it works for you!! But I have come to a conclusion that I will not do RAI due to the fact it will not be beneficial to me, however I am considering to go with Orbital Decompression given it side effects. Which will reduce the bulging of the eye permanently.

  • iam doing rad tomorrow do you think ill go hypo dfid you .

  • hey thanks for the comment greatly appreciated!!!! I am also on the Road To Recovery!!!!

  • My eyes looked the same in the years 2001 - 2002.

    Now its better!

    Hope the same for you!!!!!!

    wish u all the best......

  • ..... decrompesion", Which basically is a surgery to remove the fat behind the eye instead of the bones. So I will have to take this info. To NYEE & ask them more about it. But meanwhile planning on getting the R.A.I done ASAP, so tell me what's new with u??

  • Hey Melissa, how you been?? Just came back from my eye doc, and got some wonderful advice from him regarding the & he advised that I go for "Fatty

  • it did just that it burnt the hell out of it but still left function in the thyroid....so i along with my doc decided it was time to be removed (the whole thyroid gland) I was in surgery for 7 1/2 hrs because it was so destroyed from the r.a.i but yet still functioned as if i never had it done.....

  • I had radio active iodne in 2008 and it didnt work so in 2009 i had it removed..but was stuck with the eye condition....and yes i have all those issues to ...but i would rather take the chance with surgery then to live the rest of my life in jail in my own body....i dont want people to look at me funny or say rude things...i want to be me again ya know....so sugery is the way im going ....what state do you live in I can look for some good docs your way or even ask my specialist

  • @melissagraves79....well I am currently seeing the best infirmary in NY (The NY Eye and Ear Infirmary), they suggested after careful diagnosis of my thryroid that its best I go un radio active iodine, but in return I would be stuck with a pill that will cover the thyroid functions for the rest of my life.....but what I don't understand is that you stated that you took the iodine which should have burned ur thyroid gland, but what do you mean by having the R.A.I. removed. (hqhova@gmail.com)

  • The docs tell me the radiation pill will burn my thyroid gland and I would have to take a pill for life which will work in plave of the gland. But this decompression you speak of seen videos of, it's a good procedure to fix the eyes but question is, is it doable for everyone?? I have other eye problems such as high pressure and high stigmatism.

  • @hqhova The radioactive iodine is a bad idea. Also there is no evidence to show it will help the proptosis, in some cases it makes it worse. Thyroid issues seem to be a mystery and no doctor gives straight answers. I would stay on methimazole for a while and see what happens and check your thyroid hormone levels every month or 2 to see if porogress is being made. Surgery or radioactive iodine is a complete LAST resort.

  • I had the Iodine it didnt work a year later i had it removed....and yes there are many options for your eyes....I see a wonderful eye doctor who is going to do the orbit decompression surgery in a week or two i will be posting the videos as soon as sugery is done ...there is hope and insurance covers the sugery so no reason to think there is no hope there is so much hope for us...stay strong

  • Thanks for being supportive Melissa, I am glad to get in touch with others just like me. It looks the graves disease has affected you as well. I am on the process of getting my thyroid gland removed via. Iodine (a radation pill). After that idk, what I can do about my eyes as the damage has already been done & can't be reversed!!!

  • @hqhova Please check out ithyroid dotcom. Many people have found some amazingly simple solutions to help with proptosis. I've suffered with Hyperthyroidism. Just over a year ago, it got so bad that I was passing out constantly, had heart racing, nausea/vomiting, hourly bowel movements, etc... I have used diet, herbs, and Vitamin D to control my symptoms, no surgery or RAI. The Chinese formula I use is called "Six flavor tea pills". I have been symptom free for over a year now.

  • I am so sorry you have this ...thank you for sharing with all of us its hard to put videos on here ...Iknow but it has reach out to so many other people like us....tell me more do you plane on having orbit decompression surgery i will find out thurs when mine is...If you ever need anyone to talk to i am here.....GOD BLESS
