im 16 and hope to get a 2001 alpine whit x5 3.0 with tan leather...it has about 97,000 miles on it and has navigation which im concerned about because if it brakes....is the x5 3.0 a reliable car?
At least Chris is honest about the stone chips and other imperfections on the car, other sales men would lie to you, if only Chris had clones that lived in the UK =)
They are extremely reliable. My family has had an X5 since 2003. First my dad drove it, then my sister drove it until she went to college, and now I drive it around. It rarely has problems at 98,000 miles. One problem though is the air conditioning stopped working but it was a $75 fix. Other than that, they are great German-built cars, with quality and integrity inside and out.
As someone who's owned a 3.0i and a 4.4i, both are amazing cars, but if you can, make the jump to the 4.4i, the powertrain combo is significantly better, fuel economy is terrible but a BMW is not exactly the car to choose for conservation, at least until the diesels and hybrids hit recently. amazing car.
dont slam the door to hard, the locks are known to break easily. you have to open from the inside. why do they give so much trouble unlike some hondas which can be driven into the ground with almost no major maintnance
The X3 is smaller. The X5 is quite large, though. When I had my 2004 BMW 4.8i, it was smaller than a Sequoia that my wife owned, but larger than my brother's Sienna. The X5 is just a great car. The new one's design is pretty classy.
I've owned a 2004 BMW X5 4.8i and it was the best car I've owned. I treated it like a gem, at first, because I had switched from a 1996 Merc. E350 (which was 8 years old at the time), so it was time I got into a nice and new SUV.
I live in San Diego, so we don't get any snow up here. But with tons of rain and lots of gusty winds, I am sure this car will be able to climb through.
At the moment I drive a 2007 BMW M5, but my lease ends in less than 14 months. Hoping to get another X5 :)
Why do people lease.I'm not being condescending just want to know what the benefits are. My dad always told it was a bad idea, but you know how parents are. can you give me your opinion. thx
power and heavier fuel consumption is the only difference
The x5 have a bad reputation because they are built in north carolina, after 100k miles they are nothing but trouble. its funny a santafe which i would never drive can out last an x5. how fucking ironic
I notice you have had quite a bit of BMW X5's judging from your videos. Just a reminder to check for any rust on the lower part of the tailgate (the part of the tailgate that flips downwards) at the bottom of this tailgate, as it is prone to rust there. When I purchased my X5, I had to find out the hard way it wasn't "rust free". From what I've seen your X5s are fairly new, so you should have nothing to worry about, however its worth a look. Great vids
@chicagocarsdirect not only a strong accusation, but an ignorant and disrespectful accusation. great review guys im looking forward to buying one of my own
See you on the news...Rest In Peace. Come on, think about what you just said...safety first, so later you can reach top speed in something that's made to to fast. Remember, responsibilty matter.
i am getting one of these for my 16th birthday

The V8s both actually get better MPGs than the 3.0 with the 08 fuel economy testing changes.
