But they also did it to show Mariah "who's the boss" like missemma said. And "shake it off" was number 2 while we belong together was number 1 so it should have been number one. i like alot of singers but to me the reason why mariah will always be number one is because of her fanbase the most loyal kick ass fanbase around not to start no kinda dumb and silly fan war but just from watching her fans when she performs or releases a new album they are some dedicated fans!

@iiAmitx3 "can't let go" was set to be number 1 but the record company took it off from sales to remind Mariah she is not un-touchable. "shake it off" was set to reach number 1 but 'we belong together' was to big of a hit so it peaked at number 2. they would have made 20 number 1 hits.

@Divalushes Not only that but the album and the movie are named the same, so I think that's why the album had poor sales, but eight wait went platinum and sold over 3 million worldwide, and Loverboy, went to #2. Tommy Mottola was keeping it away from the single becoming #1 (even tho he was not affiliated with her anymore) but once tommy was firred, Mariah reigned once again :))

Hella agree!! She doesn't get the respect these days as an artist, even as a songwriter..come on the woman writes her songs and then turns them into hits? Nearly 20 #1 hits solo like who does that? 100% with you on her runs, shes very melodic. Sometimes her most beautiful runs are so subtle that you don't notice at first and the thing is not only are they vocally impressive, but they actually flow with the music unlike so many singers whose runs sometimes go all over the place.
