lol, I understand she may have had a hard childhood. But its not because she grew up in a Sikh family or Indian family. I grew up in a Sikh family, I have sisters, they werent abused or stopped from doing anything.
The issue is whether you believe your culture is wrong. They talk about not wanting to eat Indian food or wearing indian clothes. I dont think she was told to wear indian clothes unless it was for a function, and hey, most of our nike or branded clothes are made in India.
With regards to the food, if you live in an indian family, you will eat indian food. I know many african sikhs who eat traditional african food. I know indian christians who eat and cooke indian food.
The average italian family eat italian food and so on.
With regards to helping in the house, everyone is expected to help but only once you reach a certain age, not when you 6 years old. If you want to be indendant or be treated like an adult, then act like one. Thats the culture.
I'm an Indian who grew up in Canada during the 80s and 90s. I also had the same restrictions as Rupinder describes. At first I used to resent it. But now that I look back and remember seeing how my friends would smoke, have complicated sexual relationships while still being kids, drinking etc now I'm actually glad my parents cared enough for me instead of acting all PC and western.
But I guess writing a book bashing your eastern culture sells in the west. Rupinder you are a true coconut.
facing rebellion like every immigrant kid, uprooting ur culture and religion like every other person here.. only diff? you wrote a book.. purpose of such discipline is to make u better than american lifestyle.. u obviously failed.. good job.
damn... that's my childhood exactly too!!!! I was the only Indian kid in school too until I went to high school where the only oher Indian as my brother!!!
That is not the typical indian life for a kid nowadays. it might have been back thirty years ago but these days indians are usually the coolest kids in school with the expensive shoes and clothing. Even my dad never had a childhood like that. maybe rupinder that is how your parents were.
Stop chasing what's in the past. When you realize that your attempt was pointless, your going to feel even dumber realizing that you wasted even more time when you could have enjoyed the wonders of your "current" age.
this woman is simply dumb. who complains about these kinds of problems? i'm indian, this is the bread and butter of what you get over and get onto life.
wow haha lowkey that's my childhood exactly! haha. I was born in Mexico and was brought to California when I was 4. damn crazy I'm watching this right now.
@23 seconds Our gov't & Supreme Court of Canada create equality laws that legalize racial & gender discrimination. Canadians, especially men, with British ancestry are actively discriminated against. Creating a government policy of Genocide. Even TVO's hiring policies are discriminatory.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
she's speaking what the 'whites' want to hear about 'poor' Indians: 'Sigh! Indians are still poor and backward'.
