The multitouch in this phone isn't really multitouch. It's pinch-to-zoom. It can only do this: zoom in and out, nothing more. Piece of crap touchscreen. The worst.
this whole phone seems kinda slaggish.. and worse thing is the keyboard.. hardly any room to type.. i tried it but its way too small. im staying with iphone
When he zooms in or out, the page is being reformatted to the screen in real time. The iphone does not. The iphone creates a scalable bitmap image of the whole page and redraws it.
Looks like the Nexus requires two hands operation, one to hold the phone and one to zoom in and out. With the iPhone, you just need to tab the screen twice with your thumbs. It would be nice to be able to do that on the Nexus.
@TheAbsintheReviewNet I agree. Using the pinch and zoom method actually makes you use both your hands to frickkin zoom in. Double tapping is so much more efficient. I guess it's just a feature to be added so that Apple fanboys won't get "OMFGWHEREISHPINCHANDZUUM?!" everytime the use the browser.
the dolphin browser and the xscope browser support multitouch and are very very smooth just as good as the iphone the loading speeds of the nexus one are amazing as well i have gone from iPhone 3gs to nexus one and I love the nexus one the customization out of the box is amazing and it is lightning fast.
This is the hacked version of the browser with Multi Touch, this isn't Googles web browser. Its not said, but its pretty much understood by the Android Community that Apple is paying Google off not to enable Multi touch on their devices... Another reason why apple sucks the big one
The multitouch can look a bit rough because unlike the iPhone browser, Android browser organizes text so it can fit a screen width. In iPhone after pinch zooming you have to scroll horizontally to read.
Stop talking about the iPhone... it's gayness to the extreme. With a 320x480 resolution it's absolutely terrible at rendering a webpage vs. a 800x480 screen. Those still stuck in iPhone fantasy land, go check out a 800+x480 device and see for yourself. Seriously, HOW can people stand that 320x480 screen? Esp after seeing newer devices like the Nexus One AMOLED 800x480?!
@cifrus This is exactly what I wanted to say. "Smoothness" of zooming is a sort of wow-factor, in real use text wrapping to screen size is way more important
Cool video. You were right. It is not as smooth as the iPhone but it is still pretty good. At least good enough for me. What type of camcorder did you use to shoot this video?
The point of this work is not to be better at multi-touch than the Dolphin browser (at least at this stage), but it is the first step towards adding multi-touch to many other apps in Android. Cyanogen has managed to take multi-touch functionality and apply it to this standard app, and now he is working on doing the same thing for other standard apps. Dolphin will continue to be a great third-party browser (that I'll continue to use as my default).

I wish the browser and multi toutch was as good as the Palm pre and iphone, bit disappointed :(

Well, you can't double tap with the dolphin browser, which I think is a huge drawback. I really prefer double-tapping to multitouch.

yes and why is that good for you exactly?
i rather have a "real" enlargment effect then real time. much nicer for the eyes

That looks horrible, the mixing of the page zoom when you pinch is awful. I rather on wait on Google to come out with their update.

What is the point of using pinch and drag if you can double tap? Waaaay easier.

Yes, but you can simply double tap a paragraph to fit to the screen on iPhone. Much easier.

May be, I'm not a big iPhone user. Here's the different approach. Each choses which he likes more, you know :)

All I have to say... is DOLPHIN Browser.. Multi-touch is very, very smooth. Much closer to an iphone style performance.
I have the Nexus One. and Dolphin pinch zooming multitouch blows this away. That video made me not want a N1, but I do have one and love it.. lol

That is awful pinch/zoom... double tap +- so much better.
