I have 2001 MX5 NB, 2008 RX8 and 2008 S2000. The NB MX5 is easy, but fun to drive no matter where you are in. RX8 is kinda unpredictable and s a bit scared to drive in wet though excellent on dry. My best pick is S2000. I cannot compare with 2.2L vs 2.0L. I always feel my MX5 needs sturdy construction with less weight. My RX8 simply needs more power. S2000 is beyond my driving skills......
he should test the na also it's my fave out of the 3 generations but I still love the s2k more all you need is a 4.77 fd and that car gets all that low end torque to get great drifts
I kinda agree with what he says about the new model MX-5. it just doesn't handle as good as it should at stock. I highly recommend upgrading the suspension in it.
The redline for the USDM 1.8L has been 7000rpm for all iterations except the turbo 04-05. The NB engine got a new manifold and slightly increased power over the NA 1.8L, but only to the tune of about 140hp whereas the JDM I've heard got as much as 160hp in later NB cars.
Of course JDM gets the best, they make made it there first. That's why I hate it when they bring it over, they lower some of the goods stuff to the point the vehicle sucks...-_- oh well.
JDM honestly, runs circles around Domestics. Since they practically have no limits on how much they can tune them, they can top AM cars and then some. Japanese are just good like that, and they got all those roads to test on...lucky them
that made me happy to own an NB MX-5. I have used it a little for drifting too, but my skill doesn't match these guys in the least. there's no way i'd be able to control a drift like that in the rain.

the drift king is giving points according to ae86 and s2000. Miata / mx5 is just a daily car.

I want the JDM spec NB to be available here. Love that 7500rpm redline and much increased power over USDM.
