The words to this song are so powerful according to the expression of LOVE towards someone special, and Johnny Mathis makes the song come ALIVE with his smooth and cool voice. A woman singing this song is ok, but just listen to the words, YOU LOOK TO ME AS MISTY ROSES, TO SOFT TO TOUCH, BUT TO LOVELY TO LEAVE ALONE. I call my wife MISTY ROSE.
This track was from the 1967 LP "Up, Up And Away", his first album since his return to Columbia after a 5-year absence. After releasing a few albums for the Mercury label, he went back to Columbia and released the LP.
I also favour the Astrud Gilberto version best : her voice actually sound 'misty' if thet's possible. But I would really like to hear the Tim Hardin original. Anybody got it?
Don't get me wrong, everybody has a right to their interpretation, but this version is no Astrud Gilberto. Astrud brings the warmth & breathe to this track. Nobody can touch Astrud. NOBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Conyelp. The album is UP UP AND AWAY on the Columbia label. The 3 top songs on this album for me are Misty Roses, Drifting and I Thought of You Last Night.
Great to find a Mathis fan out there Conyelp. This guy is beyond talented and this song definitely captures the soft , dreamy ability of this incredibly gifted man. Do you have access to "Drifting" or "I thought of you last night"?
pennridgeboy, I sure am a Mathis fan. Yes, to me Johnny is one of the greatest if not the greatest singer of love songs. I hope we have him for many more years to come and that he stays in good health and good voice. No, I don't have Drifting or I Though Of You Last Night. Do you know what albums they are on?

I love both versions actually. Each artist brings their own something to it. As a singer, I like to hear how everyone does a song.

Colin Blunstone's version is no comparison Mathis. Maybe it is the garage band Colin had behind him.

Yes! I love the Astrud Gilberto version. The musical arrangements and her voice matches the piece. Did someone post it yet?

@mrmoralsandvalues: If you think that no one can touch Astrud's version of this song, then check out Colin Blunstone's interpretation here on YT....
