Your hair! So pretty like this :) im going through watching all your holiday recipes to get ideas for my christmas table :) you have the best selection
hi betty, can i use white sugar instead of the brown ? and we don't have this self-rising flour here in germany, so how much baking powder do you suggest so add to the normal flour ? :)
@Sushiii94 Yes, you may use white sugar in place of the brown sugar. For each cup of all purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
I'm in the process of making these today! I just rolled it up and put it in the freezer, I seriously hope they turn out! Fingers crossed! Thanks for your help Betty!
These cookies are really good, i made them with white sugar because i didn't have brown sugar. I made them twice and the first time i made them they were really nice, the second time i made them, i doubled the recipe, i found that the dough was quite dry when i added the cocoa. What would you recommend I use to moisten the dough? milk, water etc?
@pinkkid12 Thanks for your great feedback. The chocolate part does take on a different character than the rest of the dough. You could add a couple of tablespoons of butter to make it more like the rest of the dough.
wow cute cookies ...do you think it would turn out if i used regular sugar cookie rcipe and food coloring to "dye" both layers a different color ex; red and green? thanks
I already commented on this video but i have new!!! me and my friends Mitchell made these on Saturday. they were nice. and we used the extra cut off to make cookies with a marble effect. but they didn't come out in circles one side went flat in the fridge. xXx
hey betty i love you videos so thanks for them...i was wondering if you dont have self rising flour, what can i replace it with? thanks and happy holidays!
Thanks for your lovely comment! Self rising flour can be made by substituting 1 cup of all purpose flour minus 2 tsp, with the addition of 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt to make the full cup. I hope you enjoy the recipe!
thank you so much forever thing that you do i always have loved to cook but for some reason when i did it nothing taste right ha! but now i watch you ever night and my husband LOVES everything that i have made his fav. it your green bean cas. i am going to try these today there is snow on the ground for the first itme this year here and these would be perfect later when we have the fire going YOUR GREAT you need your own TV show really some how all us need to pitch you to a network !!!
Hi Linda! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've been in touch--I have many, many comments to answer! I always love hearing from you!!! This recipe will be great to make with your sons. It comes out "fancy"--not just another cookie! Nice to hear from you!
Betty, thank you for this video. I have a question for you. When you blend the brown sugar and the butter together, how long do you have to blend them to get the creamy and fluffy mixture you get? And also, what brand of unsweetened cocoa powder do you use?
Using an electric mixer, it only takes about a minute to get the brown sugar/butter mixture nice and fluffy. I used a generic brand of cocoa powder. Any brand of cocoa powder will work. Thanks for your questions!
Oh my Goodness!!! Betty, you are amazing! I think that I could even make these cookies!
And they look delicious. Thank you for making it so easy to understand. One question though, do you need self rising flour or will any flour do? [I have whole wheat flour].
She has a perfectly clear and friendly voice, and is very detailed, she would do good on a television cooking network. here is how the cooking show would start: " It's Friday and welcome to another episode of down home goodness with your host Betty "Hello everyone, i'm Betty and today we will me making homemade apple pie and strawberry jam, so follow me into the kitchen and lets get started! " for this recipe " "we will be using"... see how good this sounds Betty? i know others will agree.
Betty, That was AWESOME! this is the perfect solution for my Christmas. You saved me from a bad-baking Christmas. Thank You. You need your own channel.
@Buddie56151 Heck, she should have her own cable television channel! i have an idea, the show could be called ' Down Home Goodness ' " Cooking With Betty "
Thanks, Ben, for the comment on the cookies and for the compliment! I got the Christmas card you sent! That was such a lovely gesture! Thanks so much; you are a wonderful friend!
Betty,I would love to see you make a video on making homemade Fudge, chocolate or peanut butter, it don't matter. also, do you make candies/ i always wanted to see how salt water taffy is made.i heard it don't contain salt water, it got its name from a shop owner on the Atlantic coast whose store was flooded.
I have peanut butter fudge and also Skillet Fudge (which is chocolate) on bettyskitchen. You can find them by searching bettyskitchen. I will consider taffy after the holiday season is over! Thanks for your comment!
Betty, you never cease to amaze me with your ability to cook! you have inspired me to get to cooking again, people nowadays it seems have lost the urge to cook at home, they rather go through a drive thru and eat un healthy. people are surprised on how much money they can save by taking the extra time to prepare food at home. i gave you 5 stars!
I'm glad you are cooking again! It is a good thing in a lot of ways--economically and healthwise. Plus, it provides time for families to actually sit down and discuss the day! Thanks for your comment!

Wow looks great....Thankyou very much for uploading Betty!! Silly question...but why do you need to pack the brown sugar before putting it into the bowl? It will eventually get incorporated with other ingredients anyway so I find that really interesting...
The reason for packing is to get the full measure. If you just pour the brown sugar in from a box or bag, it will have air in and around it, and may not be the perfect amount for the recipe. This way the measure is standard for everyone. Thanks for asking!
can i use regular sugar insted of brown sugar will it taste the same?? Thanx
