Incredible Demo, you really showed how they sound and react to your playing. To me, I prefer the sound with the hum better. It is a very small difference in tone, and I absolutely hate hum. I shielded my Strat Pickup Cavity with Copper Tape. That reduced the hum in half, you can never totally get rid of it. It's a double edged sword, good tone -- but an annoying hum. Again Killer Video. Best Noiseless Pickups I've ever heard.
Rod! I just bought a 70s reissue Fender ASH Strat with the GFS Vintage FAT Neovins in it. I was skeptical, because nothing else goes in my Guitars but Duncans/DiMarzios/Bardens/Fralins, PRS etc. When I played this guitar yesterday 12/29/10 for the 1st time I was FLOORED. I go through a very nice sysatem a MESA Quad pre/and a MESA 295 Simulclass Amp, and the MESA RECTO 4 x 12 cab. I could not put the guitar Down! Allll day today too. These GFSs are AMAZING. I am SOLD. WOW I'm in SHOCK
I tried the CV 50s squier and i loved the sound of the stock pickups. but i want noiseless. are these pickups pretty close sounding to the stock ones? i tries some deluxe strats and a eric clapton, sounded too thick and bassy. what do you suggest?
I have Custom '54 single coils by Fender in my Strat and although not "noisless" they are very quiet, almost silent. I don't know why but they are very quiet. Maybe my wiring job in my guitar is good but I have no shielding though. Thanks for the demo and review.
Those are really nice sounding pickups! They definitely don't sound like authentic or 'vintage' strat pickups - the bridge pickup in particular jumps out at me as being too thick, especially considering that's a maple-neck strat. But I think you're right - if you're not a single-coil purist, and can get over the fact that these don't fit those expectations - the tone is definitely nice, and being noiseless is so useful!
Very detailed review, much nicer than just hearing some kid bang out some power chords! Based on reviews like this I ordered the Neovin Tele vintage set. Yes, these are dead quiet and the bridge actually has a real Tele twang, while the neck is not a bit muddy, very clear. Normally would have to put a strat pup in the neck or remove the chrome cover to get the same clarity. Very nice for noisy venues or a studio indeed. I will be trying a Strat set soon. Thanks for a very informative review.
At what height do you set your pickups to get that tone? Can you fret at last fret and measure from pole piece to bottom of high and low "E" string? You make that guitar sound great!
Are you listening to this on crappy speakers? Unless you're talking about the overdriven tones, which are less distinguishable, but still distinct. I just really hate the Bad Monkey, but the clean tones were nice.
Hardly, a nice set of Sennheisers actually. :) I was speaking in terms of comparing this to single coils. I have three strats, and an Xaviere XV870 with GFS single coils and they all have a LOT of tonal difference between the PU positions. I just don't hear as much with these noiseless PUPs and was wondering if any of that sound distinction suffers with the noisless wind.
ooops... someone posted a comment to there pickups being noisy but instead of hitting reply I hit remove... sorry. My response would be if these pickups are noisy in you guitar I believe you have them hooked up wrong. Mine are dead quiet even on high gain settings.
they are great pickups im getting mine soon to put in my decked out squier stratocaster deluxe with a two point bridge, locking tuners, electronics redone, and a new nut this thing will be cruising!
um I have a question. Is it worth it to upgrade my stock Squier pickups to GFS pickups? I'm playing through a Marshall MG30dfx. i heard it does not make much of a difference because my amp is just an average solid state amp.
First off, those Marshall amps are anything but "average". They are great sounding amps. I use the 50watt version of that myself. As far as pickups it depends what you are after, if you want a quiet guitar it is worth the upgrade. If you like the sound of your guitar as is, save your money!
Hey nice playing! When you say these are low output, how low do you mean? For example, are they 50% quieter than typical single coils? I know it's subjective, but if you could give me an idea that would be great. Thanks!
I have no idea really. If you play heavy music these are probably not what you are looking for unless you have a ton of gain. I like low output pickups so I dig em.
Hi! Nice demo and playingI have the same pickups as you do and they sound cool but have you noticed that the bass strings are not crisp and clean, specially the 6th? How about the distance of the strings from the pickups? Do you set them as close as possible? Thanks a lot!!
hey, i was considering seymour duncan hot rails till i heard about the gfs pickups. they are extremly cheap! i play funk, altern rock, punk, and reggae/ska. would you reccomend these pups? i wasnt sold on the hot rails because i love the single coil sound. so these are good with noise? im getting a big muff aswell and they are extremly noisy.
They sound great but I can hear the sterility to where when you switch pickups, they just about sound alike and same level...no interaction between your hands and sound. A great Strat pickup fights the others just a bit to add to the depth...Super nice playing...just about like EMG's...just a plain vanilla output.
Thanks for the demo. The pups sound really good. I've read that these pickups have to be jacked up really close to the strings to sound good. Is this what you found?
Good demo, I was interested in seeing what these sound like. I am interested in these or maybe the GFS Lil Killer's, I have lots of strat's but want an option for a quiet pickup set. Thanks for the professional demo and the chance to hear these.
the Neovins sound great! In fact I have a prewired pickguard with Neovins waiting to be installed in my strat copy, I just haven't had the time yet. But when I get round to it, I'm planning on making a comparison video with the old Wilkinson Alnico PU's that are in there now and the Neovins.

Thanks for posting this demo ! Sounds really good and quiet !
Is it a pre-wired set or bought seperately ?
I'm also a single coil purest and hate the hum when using overdrive.
My Highway Strat is very noisy with the factory vintage stock pickups !
I'll be seriously thinking about having them put in now.

I would guess it was impossible to get such a warm and deep tone, using 500kohm pots?? I never dared using other than 250kohm for my singlecoils.
pbstratocaster 1 year ago
@pbstratocaster These are 500K pots.
rodchubb 1 year ago
@rodchubb Thankd R. So you can even get a warmer tone by changing to 250 ` .

these sound a tad too muddy lacking the spank and sparkle of true coils...

@freenamdar I like the neovins but I am not sure they really sound like a single coil. You just can't get that sound out of a humbucker.

Sounds great.
Im liking Guitar Fetish more and more. Cheap and GOOD!
Good competitor for Seymour Duncan (which i swear by), Gotoh (which I also swear by) and Dimarzio.
Everything thing I've heard from GFS has been outstanding and SO affordable,
Their ready made guitars are amazing vaule and sound just like what theyre cloning, (or as close to as possible anyway)
