@jgolf1212 It is the cKc Hiker hunter version with an elongated handle. It was made from a Svord peasant knife although its tang was full. Anyway it is a discontinued knife. Thanks.
@bigo57dean BlackJack M125, Bark River Fox River, JRE custom F1, Svord Drop Point Hunter ( which needs edge reprofiling ), Ontario RAT1 folder. One month has passed and I've already got 8 stag. They are impressive knives this season although 5 more months remain. Thanks.
beautiful great knives , but why dont you own any of cold steel products. THERE ARE GREAT TOO, AND I AM A GREAT FAN OF THEIR PRODUCTS, ONCE MORE CONGRATULATIONS FOR THAT COLLECTION
@auradud3 It is the 2009 custom skinner and I remember it was around $150. I don't think it is a very good knife because of its edge geometry. Its belly portion on tip side is getting thicker to the tip. The A2 steel doesn't need that thickness which makes the edge duller. In short its edge geometry is more strong than sharp. Thanks.
@jinnaraka What you are saying sounds strange to me. We hunt deer with guns and get meat with knives. And there are good hunting knives and not very good knives out there. I am a knife user and a collector. I am a deer hunter and want to know which knife is good or not very good. I believe what I am doing is very normal and it will be useful for hunters and knife collectors. I have used every single knife of mine at least once or twice on deer and I can tell something on it. This is my hobby.
@EddieCubillo It is Kershaw Lahar. It's made of VG10, a kind of soft stainless steel. It's recurve is difficult to sharpen. It's a pretty bulky and heavy knife. So I don't love it very much now. Thank you!
@WildLifeGuy308 In my experience so far I love 2 folders deeply. One is BladeTech Professional Hunter Magnum which is expensive. The other is Benchmade 551 Griptillian which is around 90 dollars. Less than that price I was not able to find a good knife for myself. The Benchmade 551 is a pretty good hunting knife. I have used it on deer many times and my love has deepened chance by chance. Thank you!
@thebeatles4784 I am sorry that I sold out my CRKT Alaska knife recently in new condition. It was because its factory edge was dull and made of unknown steel, and I didn't think it was a good steel which would satisfy my demand. So I don't know how it works in deer dressing. Thank you!
@rorybrocks In less expensive range, I highly recommend you Enzo Trapper selling at Brisa website. They provide 3 kind of steels, AUS8, O1 and D2, and 2 kind of grind, flat grind with V edge, and Scandi edge. Their micarta handles have good traction. They have colored liners between the stock and scales. Their sheath is excellent. I personally love O1 carbon steel and Scandi edge. It's easy to go scary sharp with a compound loaded leather strop, and retains its sharpness long.
Really great knives. I am improving on my collection and am very happy. Do you have any knife sharpener recommendations? I could really use a good one for my knives.
@rorybrocks I use water stones, Edge Pro fixed alignment sharpening system, and leather strops. The Edge Pro makes an excellent V edge, and if you polish the edge with a white compound loaded DLT leather strop paddle, the edge will go twice as sharp. The 800 and 4000 grit two sided water stone is good. The Scandi edge must be sharpened only on water stones, and it's very easy because the edge angle equals the bevels angle. It also need white compound loaded leather stropping after sharpening.
good knives. Love your taste in knives. You do what i do and people think it's crazy, colour variation. If i like a knife design i usually buy them in different variations eg steels, handles and so on. I just love knives. I thank you very much for sharing and wish we can be friends
@LiFetommi Thank you very much. There are not so many knives which fit my taste. And when a knife is proven to be very good for me, I want one more the same knife with a different color or some. I just love knives, too.
@jauntin Surely it is impossible for me to choose just one knife for a single deer hunt.
So I carry a couple of knives in my rucksack and a more couple of knives on my belt, which should sound crazy. However using various knives and thinking about their advantage or disadvantage in comparison is my joy. Just one knife is boring for me. I am not just a user nor a collector but a...
Maybe I am doing the same way how you are doing. Thanks.
Great collection, and your English is excellent. I'm looking to get a F1 with a micarta handle. I don't like the plain handle, it looks like a kitchen knife.
@jesseyarnell Hi, I understand your feeling that the handle of the F1 should be more cosmetic. I guess you have ever seen the blank F1 blade which has a wide full tang for custom makers. I believe the wide full tang and the handle scales move the balance point to the butt side. The regular synthetic handled F1 with narrow tang is balanced very well. So on the F1 you had better go for the regular version in my opinion. In contrast, on Barkies you can enjoy the handle variation very much.
@jauntin Yes, S1 gone. A bit long for hunting and a bit short and light for survival. I am now getting ESEE RC5 and KaBar Becker BK2 thinking of the sudden encounter with wild bears.
@tobeaSEAL Yes, I think so too. However gun carry outside the hunting season, and Knife carry over 6 inches are forbidden in Japan. And we have around 2000 brown bears in Hokkaido island, the very north of Japan. I have ever met bears in close range 3 times. Fortunatelly then they went away. I always carry a pepper spray and a knife in mountains, and think of giving him my left arm, and getting his life in return just with a knife ridiculously.
@vjanda1 Yes, I do it myself. The sharpening is a joy. I use Spyderco Sharpmaker for the V edge, and a leather strop with compounds for the convex edge. Thanks.
Just noticed that the Spyderco Stretch is missing from the lineup. Your initial review of that knife was positive. Did you find some things about it in the field that you did not like? This is a knife I am seriously considering, so that's why I ask. -Thanks
@mz9393mz I now don't use the Spyderco Stretch for hunting. Its blade shape is very similar to BladeTech Wegner Pro Hunter Magnum, however the angle between the blade and the handle is very different. In the stretch, the blade precedes the handle so that the blade must accept much resistance of the tissue during the skinning. Furthermore the point angle is a bit too shallow for getting the back muscles. That is why I don't use it for hunting. Though I love it for utility purpose. Thanks.
@johniac7078 My most favorite is Bark River Highland Special, and my best recommendation is Fallkniven F1. Favorite is not theory but feeling. Thanks.
Great to see the whole collection. Thanks for sharing. Excellent knives. Will you try to use all of them continually or will stick to using your favorites?
@mz9393mz Thanks for watching. I get 40 deers regularly in a season, and I enjoy processing deers using 2 knives on one deer, so I think I will be able to use every single knife alternately. I have already had enough number of great knives, however I am getting new knives. Using good knives is joy. I satisfy my basic greed there, so I don't spend money other than for knives. In that meaning this collection is not so expensive and not so bad I think. My family don't think so though.
You have a great collection now. a Very reasonable size.. I have not done a collection update for a while.. perhaps I should.. mine is much smaller than people may think from all my videos. That BM Snody Activator is quite a nice design.
