Of course, this wasn't a gimmick. Scott Hall actually was drunk. At the time, he was going through a bad divorce. Less than a month after this took place, he was so wasted that he actually tried to steal a limo and got arrested for it. Two months before this took place, he was arrested for assault in LA and was found to be intoxicated .

Russo really had no direction or ideas, so he went with what was happening off camera and ran WCW into the ground. Eric made some mistakes, but but I'm sure had Russo not been around he would have had something to work with when he came back. But by that time, the company was toast.
