I actually find it hilarious because choirs all across the country are singing about alien space craft and they don't even realize it. Clearly Ezekiel saw a UFO. Its the only CLEAR passage in the Holy BIble which describes an object identical to modern day UFOs. Ezekiel describes glowing, metal wheels in the sky with "creature" that have the face of man inside them. He says the wheels move back and forth like flashes of lightening.
@xxelisexxhartxx I'm not trying to defend, here, because i agree, i'd just like to note that this song isn't a foreign language lol. we're doing it in choir atm, and its a gospel piece. in english. these people just need to work on loosening up their vowels, and themselves as a whole.
you idiot, it's supposed performed like this. this is a Negro spiritual, the purpose is to imitate early african american accent. the title is "ezekiel saw DE wheel" to give you a clue. and this is english...
@xxelisexxhartxx this song isn't in a foreign language, in case you haven't noticed by now. it's in english with words from times when there were slaves. that's why they pronounced the words that way, it's not supposed to be proper english.
I can't say good or bad on this version. There are much better versions of the song. Not bad, though, if I had to say. My choir has done two versions of the song now.
it doesnt matter if you are French singing an African Song it doesnt make it better-what makes it good is the way the singers in the choir work together with the conductor and their interpretation of the peice so be careful what you are saying!!! you arent prejudice but insulting a choir who are proud of themselves...
their is a big difference between criticizing them bc of their pitch or tonality or pronounciation or etc
in addition, you guys need more colored people . everyone within their race sounds similar, but when you have a choir with all different races, the sounds much better.
I would say that the only thing musically that is wrong is the one mistake that all modern school music teachers make when directing Old Spirituals. They make you announciate the improper English words so that you sound foolish. The intent was to make you FEEL the Spirit (hence the name). The sound, pitch, rhythm, etc. are the most important items to remember when performing Old Spirituals. Word announciation should be secondary... Just my opinion. Great sound.
@godpraiser129 ummm definitely not. He's clearly not a Bass 2. It's only a low E or E flat. A bass 2 should have no trouble with those notes and even his semi low notes sound flat and forced.
You have a good thing going--you are all on key here and you have a nice harmony. I think if you speed up the tempo, you'll have a great rendition of this song!
the choir its self isnt a bad chior. you're guys are pretty amazing actually. . .its just this arrangement. . .it sucks. my chior did a way better arrangement the guys parts were way more intricate (4 part guy alone) then there was probably like 16 parts going at the end of the song. it was fantastic. you should've done THAT version. it would've forced you to challenge yourselves. but you are a good chior.
It's not the arrangement my choir did the same arrangement. This choir did it no justice. They're flat, off tempo, not following dynamics properly, and lack energy.
this song has the 4 men parts ReturnToOctober was talking about, and the choir isn't off tune. the problem is speed and dynamics. there are supposed to many sfortzandos and creshendos during the song and it is an up-tempo song. i did it in choir, same arrangement, but better dynamics
trust me our choir is the worst choir in the world. All the girls in our choir are like the best singers but the boys suck. They always forget their part. They can't sing too
teres no specific tempo i dont think.. but i do think it is faster because im in the COYC and we've sung it a little faster.. but yes a little softer on the girls
You guys are killin' me with this "Some go to church for to sing and shout". The consonants shouldn't be so precise. This piece has emotion written all over it. This performance is just so straightforward and I daresay... boring. I'm sorry.
ok but actuely.. if this were in somewere like the opera house(in australia) if you dident make the consonants as crisp as they did.. it would sound very very bad
okay? and are they in an opera house in austrailia? The poster of the video asked for criticisms so I gave it, and you don't need to add your 2 cents to what I say, because clearly, nobody is talking to you.
PLEASE Post any comments or suggestions to make our song better.
It's people like you who make the world some politically correct land of gutless and low self-esteemed people. And like I said, nobody is talking to you, so shut up.
my choir performed this and we had a lot more emotion with it....its not a precise song because of its gospel feel...you have to get into the song and not go for precision...look like you enjoy singing the song
The common misconception of tenor, "Girly". If the vowels were rounded and covered a little bit, they wouldn't sound like they were trying to make the alto section. It can still be light, just not girly. Any high school doing Moses Hogan I salute. It was overall a good performance. I am a little upset that the final chord didn't have the high third in the soprano. Keep singing.
Wow great job!! I really like your sound. I'm not too familiar with this song but I think something that you guys could easily do to make your performance a little more engaging is really have some more contrasting dynamics. Especially in the chorus that keeps popping up. Every time they say the wheel is another time to grow until "waaay in the middle of the wheel." usually when somethings repeated the composer wants more emphasis the second, third, forth ect. time but like i said great job !
My best friend did a very similar solo to the girl that did her solo. To the soloist: You need to listen to some Gospel chiors to get a feel of that kind of solo voice. I think your doing great, but, to be even better you need to research a little bit. It's not the best it can be for this particular song.
Is this a high school choral group? Wow! What incredible talent. I'm so impressed. The men are the best. They can get very low. Never heard such a terrific version.
FiNNALY HiS VERSi0N iS 0N HERE! BUT S0RRY M.H...Y0UR ARRANGMENT OF "EZEKiEL SAW DE WHEEL" STiLL D0NT C0MPAREs T0 WiLLiAM DAWS0Ns! STiLL DA B0MB TH0UGH!
I have never performed Ezekiel...But, of course I know Moses Hogan. Again, men are superb. You do have some flat notes, careful when going down in the basement that can go flat when it's that low. "...And all turned out" Great! The women's power for "Tell me" and "Raise the Lord" is good for this song. Very gospel. Except, I couldn't at first understand "Lord" for the women. Not all the time but once of twice you will have a problem on diction!...
Cont. from comment 1) The soloist was good. Don't be afraid to let loose girl! The ending is chaotic, you do it so well. But, make sure you all are at the right tempo. Some parts speed up. Last thee notes are wonderful. They are loud and stunning. But, I don't know if it was the recording, but, it sounded like something was off for the Sopranos. Like a glitch or something...
(Cont. From comment 2)I'm sure it wasn't you that is the problem with listening to a recording then listening to it live. But, make sure you pick how loud you want it to be. I noticed that the Sopranos were way louder then the tenor. The tenor gets lost in the end because of the women being so loud. I don't think you want to loose the men in this song. Keep up the good work!
luv it can you do a favor 4 me?

The Ezekiel we are singing in my choir is a little different with notes and lyrics.

Loosen up and eternalize the music. This song needs to be felt by the singers to pass it on. The dynamics need to be more prominent .

you should make the girls sing more softly, so the guys can be heard more. also, i believe the song is meant to be sung faster.
