@lsvtecb18c1 I own both an auto and a 6-speed and the auto smokes the 6-speed with roughly the same mods. With better turbo technology supras keep getting faster and faster, the auto's are now getting close to high 6's. 6-speed might get you some "cool points" but you can laugh hysterically as you pull away from anything with 30lbs + of constant boost in an auto.
Not a Jag fan but I have to tell ya'.. this Jag is cool. Perfect sleeper? You got that right. As far as 2JZ vs LS1? Boy..that's a loaded one but I will say that some of the strongest turbo V8s I've seen come out of Nelson Racing Engines in California.. In particular, the NRE 632 can make 2700 horsepower and 2100 ft pounds on race gas.. and reliably from what I hear. Ever see a 2JZ do that? let me know if you have. Anyways, cool race.

@crzygutrsnobrdr the LQ9 (Chevy's IRON Ls1) has held 800+ on the stock bottom end. goto ls1tech and see for yourself. and the stock T-56 in the corvette has run 9's without anything more then a clutch and flywheel. i dont know why, maybe hes breaking it in, maybe he needs a bigger fuel system, maybe its not a twin turbo at all (which would explain ALOT). and im sorry the standard for measuring any sort of power is torque, horsepower is calculated from the amount of torque you are producing.

@crzygutrsnobrdr sorry, its a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder and the evo is ALOT less aerodynamic so it has alot more to overcome then that stripped out supra that runs 8's. and all wheel drive only helps when you cant get traction. that supra has no problem because hes running straight up drag slicks, there is no advantage to all wheel drive now that he has slicks so dont try to act like it helps in the 1/4 mile. the evo also has more drivetrain loss because of the awd.
@Fuku2hoe aerodynamics dont affect it at such a short distasnce race from a stand still. when you have 1300rwhp traction can be a problem. thats why boost is limited in 1st and 2nd gear. slicks or npt 1300rwhp is hard to lay down to the road. my neighbor runs a low 6sec pro outlaw goat, i've built a low 10 fox body and own a supra and an evo. you can hav traction problems regarless. its all about set-up

@crzygutrsnobrdr aerodynamics affect you from 40mph and up, dont believe me? ALL the autocross champions use huge wings and front splitters and they only get up to 60-70mph. aerodynamic drag makes a huge difference and will slow a car down big time in the 1/4. AWD does help, but having slicks and skinny's along with a solid rear (supra's are notorious for having traction issues, thats why all the fastest 1/4 supra's run ford 9" rears and GM 12 bolts cause that shitty IRS wont hook).

@crzygutrsnobrdr That 5.4 was designed as a long stroke torquey truck engine. It was just an example. Yeah the 2JZ powered Supra's record is impressive. Sometimes they win. But a 2JZ isnt a 2L Honda. Rather the best effort Toyota could manage while staying under the 206kW barrier. One of the best designed engines to come out of the 90s.

From memory (had a quick look but couldn't find it) the record holding GT had 1900hp when it ran 150ish, then they upped the boost and ran 266.

A Rolls Royce Merlin will put out 3000hp for hours on end at 3000 rpm. Is it a fair comparison? No, because a 2JZ is only three litres. A very well engineered and strong engine, but three litres none the less.

With better turbo technology supras keep getting faster and faster, the auto's are now getting close to high 6's. 6-speed might get you some "cool points" but you can laugh hysterically as you pull away from anything with 30lbs + of constant boost in an auto.

Not a Jag fan but I have to tell ya'.. this Jag is cool. Perfect sleeper? You got that right. As far as 2JZ vs LS1? Boy..that's a loaded one but I will say that some of the strongest turbo V8s I've seen come out of Nelson Racing Engines in California.. In particular, the NRE 632 can make 2700 horsepower and 2100 ft pounds on race gas.. and reliably from what I hear. Ever see a 2JZ do that? let me know if you have. Anyways, cool race.

@crzygutrsnobrdr the LQ9 (Chevy's IRON Ls1) has held 800+ on the stock bottom end. goto ls1tech and see for yourself. and the stock T-56 in the corvette has run 9's without anything more then a clutch and flywheel. i dont know why, maybe hes breaking it in, maybe he needs a bigger fuel system, maybe its not a twin turbo at all (which would explain ALOT). and im sorry the standard for measuring any sort of power is torque, horsepower is calculated from the amount of torque you are producing.

Regardless a 3 liter on 16psi on a 66mm turbo keeping up with a forced inducted 440ci engine. Regardless of what you say, thats technology at its finest. That v8 shouldent have a problem walking it N/A. IDK what anybody says I have yet to see another 3 liter engine run 8's in a street legal car with a pretty stock transmission

@crzygutrsnobrdr sorry, its a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder and the evo is ALOT less aerodynamic so it has alot more to overcome then that stripped out supra that runs 8's. and all wheel drive only helps when you cant get traction. that supra has no problem because hes running straight up drag slicks, there is no advantage to all wheel drive now that he has slicks so dont try to act like it helps in the 1/4 mile. the evo also has more drivetrain loss because of the awd.

@Fuku2hoe aerodynamics dont affect it at such a short distasnce race from a stand still. when you have 1300rwhp traction can be a problem. thats why boost is limited in 1st and 2nd gear. slicks or npt 1300rwhp is hard to lay down to the road. my neighbor runs a low 6sec pro outlaw goat, i've built a low 10 fox body and own a supra and an evo. you can hav traction problems regarless. its all about set-up

ALL the autocross champions use huge wings and front splitters and they only get up to 60-70mph. aerodynamic drag makes a huge difference and will slow a car down big time in the 1/4. AWD does help, but having slicks and skinny's along with a solid rear (supra's are notorious for having traction issues, thats why all the fastest 1/4 supra's run ford 9" rears and GM 12 bolts cause that shitty IRS wont hook).

Search texas mile, Ford GT to see another example of what happens when you turbo a strong V8. Between 220 and 270mph over one mile from a standing start! Rather the best effort Toyota could manage while staying under the 206kW barrier. One of the best designed engines to come out of the 90s.

@944CoyoteV8 Your correct about the civic... there is no way a civic could get up to 260mph.. but you can get to 260mph with less than 2000hp.. for example the bugatti veyron can do 267mph stock and it only has aroudn 1000-1200hp. also the nissan 300zx holds the E/BMS land speed record of 265 mph. so its possible to do it with less than 2000hp, but i just know a civic couldnt do that

1500hp from a 5.7L LS1 is easy and reliable, and its a low budget engine.
A Rolls Royce Merlin will put out 3000hp for hours on end at 3000 rpm. Is it a fair comparison? No, because a 2JZ is only three litres. A very well engineered and strong engine, but three litres none the less.

It's more impressive when you make equal or more power out of a smaller engine, than doing what is easiest and using a bigger engine. It's even more impressive if you can make the big numbers without ever using a "power adder" of any sort on the engine (i.e. forced induction, or nitrous oxide).
