  • I cut down a few stalks of bamboo last week and have left them out to sun-dry, but they don't seem to be changing from green at all. How long should it take for the bamboo to dry out and turn yellow?

  • Hy Wyseman! It takes about two months! If you keep the small tweegs and leafs on the stalks they dry and get yellow faster.

    Good luck

  • great!! thanks!

  • Thanks Sophia! Glad I could help!

  • Excellent video! Thanks!

  • Your welcome SmileysRevenge100 ! Glad you liked it!

  • AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much for your knowledge. I know a place that is a bamboo forest. Should I just chop one down and let it dry in the sun or flame treat? (It will not be hot and sunny for awhile) any drying ideas would be great! Can you use a different wire?

    Thanks!

  • Hy UnseenOni! You should let it dry untill it changes to a yellow collor. After it´s yellow you can flame treat it!

    Ok?

  • Ola!

  • Can I have a question? How to prepare dry cabaca from fresh green cabaca? How to do that and avoid rot???

  • Hy Lumpy888! Keep it in a dry place where the sun can keep the cabaça dry and warm. I made a vídeo about planting the cabaça. Take a look in my channel. It´s tittle is: Plantio e colheita de cabaça.

    Bye!

  • Yeah good video. Thanx. But in our climate is imposible to keep cabasa on sunlight, because is starting to be cold now. It is possible to keep it in the owen?do you have any expierence with it?

  • I´ve never done that Lumpy888, but it might work! Maybe a place where you usually dry wood...

  • really really helpfull tnx a lot¡¡¡

  • It´s a pleasure to help!

  • @rapharigoti nice I make mine with a PVC tube¡¡ (y)

    :D

  • PVC is also a really cool option!! It´s light and easy to use.

    Abraço

  • Really awsome video. Btw nice one-hand work;) Respect

  • Thanks Lumpy!!

  • Very good instructions for how to make it !,i have made my first Berimbeau, before 24 years ago,and it was from bamboo my friend. The bamboo it was hollow inside,(empty),so this was working like a speaker, after i have attach the big speaker, for more sound shape. Now after so long,i decide to make a real good one, with strong long wood and all the other staff, that go's with it.Simply to make, and easy to play.Thank's for your nice work.See you

  • Thanks Angelartfly!!! Good luck on your constructions and playing!!!

  • hey man! thank you very much for this! i've been making berimbaus for some time now with different wood and just decided to switch to bambu (I should've done it long ago!). This was really helpful..Thanks for sharnig this I appreciate it..Axe Capoeira!

  • Hy Omaramadan!! Bambu is really good for berimbaus!! Makes them strong, light, sounds really good and are easu to find! Glad I could help!

  • blz!!!

  • Thanks for the very important info!! It will help a lot of people!

  • Unfortunately I don´t know what species it is... I have tried to use bambu that were not good for berimbaus. I kept looking til mI found a good. I get bambu from that same place... Might be a good idea to keep on looking.

  • It´s very important to leave them intact!!! The partitions contribute to bambu´s strenght!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Your welcome! Bambu is very dany and sounds really nice!

    Tchau!

  • We have started making these in Japan and we have a big workshop on these in January 2010. Everything is expensive coming to Japan because of shipping. So now we just ship cabaca only. Thank you very much.

  • Hi Orateur!! I am very haapy for you! I´m goins to check your videos and apreciate Capoeira from Japan!!

    Greetings from Brazil!

  • thanks a lot

  • Your wellcome.

  • Hy Capoeze! Make a vídeo of the pumpkins you`re going to use!! Might be a very good option for those that don´t have cabaças!

    Thanks

  • Excellent, beautiful sound, thank you.

  • Thanks Gregor! It´s even nicer when your hear it live, with no recording. My camera doesn´t record sound that well. The bamboo has it-s own acoustic!

    Good luck with your construction!

    I do!

It was Master Damianor de Mendonça (Mestre Mendonça). :)

But... Porto wine is cheap in Porto (Portugal) and good Berimbau in Brazil is cheap.

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • Thanks Hantumalam. Nice to have more friends in love with capoeira!

  • rapharigoti,

tomorrow i'll make my custom berimbau with my carpenter.

luckily, i found rottan stick on my storage room, and a big old brown coconut.

thank's rapharigoti, your video is my inspiration to make my custom berimbau.

i'm sorry before if my english not too good. :)

  • Don´t forget to share when it´s ready!!

    Good luck!

  • Okay I got my Coconut:)

Okay if i pull the Leaves on my Bamboo stick will i ruined it especially if its not dried

And iam Just curious What is teh Lether part for:( Iam Confused

  • THe leather is a circle cut of a belt for example, the same that holds trousers so they don´t fall! : ) It´s animal, usually cow skin! That will stop the wire from cutting the stick!

  • Hello Thank u for Replying to all My Questinos:)

I would like to buy one but they go online for about $130.00 to 150.00

    Wich is Rediculoas Expensive:(

So are you still going to make a Step by Step Video on how to make one:) Please I apprecited

I cant wait to make my oWn:)

  • I totally agree! To expensive!! Make one your self!! It´s not difficult! Just be patient and get all the materials!

    Bye

  • or How much would you charge me to ake me one:) lolololol

I live in US ChulaVista CA 91910

  • I don-t sell them I just teach how to make them. But You can probably buy one on virtual shops in the internet.

  • Hey do I have to let the Bamboo dry before i cut it:) or can i start carving it:)

  • You should always let it dry first. It tends to shrink when it dries.

  • Should I get a Bamboo that is 5 foot long and that is Straight:)

What kind of tools do i need

  • It can be straight if it is not to thick, It should be curved if it is thick, easier to bend!

  • Comment removed

  • If i cant find a CASCADA fruit What kind of Coconut would you reccommend:)

  • The biggest and thinest coconut possible.

  • The Line from the Wheel taking it out is a pain in the ass ill just buy that part online:)

  • It´s a good choice if you can buy it! A lot easier!

  • Okay i got the Bamboo now what lolololol

Please make step by step videos

  • I totaly agree! I should make a step by step including the use of the tools to make the berimbau! I´ll work on it!

lolololol Where the Hell can i find a cascada Fruit I live in US Sandiego

  • I´m not sure where you can find it there. But you can use some substitutes, like a coconut for example.

  • this awesome iam jumping over my Neighbors yard to get a Big ass Babmboo stick:)

  • That´s cool!! The berimbau will have an adventure story to tell when you play it!!

    Thanks

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dear rapharigoti, you don't know how much you help me and my little son (A little capoeirist)

  • Hy!! You make believe even more that capoeira is very appreciated by people from Israel! I´m very glad I could help! Good luck to you and your son!!

I´ve an other video teaching how to play the berimbau! I teach musical notations, very interesting!

    Greetings from Brazil!

  • Thank you dear rapharigoti. sines then i made a lot of Berimbau, using Bamboo and Goiaba.

i think there are lot of teachers in the internet, but just few goods like you.

    Thank you very much.

  • I can't even begin to tell you how instructional this is, even if only to understand the construction of the berimbau. Thank you so very much!

  • I wonder, what other wood I could use for verga. I live in the central Europe and bamboo is hard to get for me, biriba wood is impossible. I heard that maple wood would be good.

  • I´m not sure... I´ve never tried a maple wood. But it´s very easy to make a test. Bend it!! As if you were stringing the berimbau, if it doesn´t brake it´s a good wood for a berimbau! You can try others in the same way! I´ve made berimbaus with wood I don´t even know the name!

    Good luck

  • I think you can try with Abeto, its easy to bend and it will handle the string tension very well.

  • That looks fucking cool.

  • Thanks Man!! Glad I could help!

  • How do you attach the arame to the top of the verga?

  • Hy ROberts! It´s in a video in portuguese with the title: Como armar o berimbau

    Thanks

  • thx dude it was very helpfull

i jave quastion .... if i dont have a cabasa i can use the botome of a bottle?

  • Hi Saarollz!! Yes you can use the bottom of a bottle! You can use a tin can as well! Any thing that makes a good sound, you can try anything!

    Good Luck!

  • thx.....

and i can use any wheel also?

  • Yes! They usually have the same type of wire!

  • Very straight forward and informative. I'll give it a lash, thanks.

  • Thanks StiofanBreathNach!! Glad to share! Good luck on your constructions and playing!!

  • does the wood have to a hole in the inside from one side to the other side

  • The hole is some thing you can´t avoid when you are working with bamboo! The hole does not need to come from one side to the other, you don´t have do drill anything. The knots in the bambu make it strong.

    Good luck!

  • instead of bamboo, what other material can be used?

  • Itś a good idea to try what ever wood you can find! The important thing is that it does not brake or snap when you bend it ! Try every wood that looks like a good verga! YOu will find one that works well!

  • Lots of thanks and respect from Singapore... Check out our videos too, BLOCO SIngapura...
