This guy may be the quintessential NYC poseur. As many people -- including genuinely great downtown musicians -- mistake Zorn's overweening mediocrities for the avant guard as there are fools who confuse Noam Chomsky with a world-class public intellectual.

Such a talented musician. Very few come up with such level of genius... Zappa, Hermeto Pascoal, Miles Davis...

i found out about john zorn when i were 14 years old (im still 14) at library and they had this tabel with a sing that said "music that dosent play in radio" when the library were just about to be closed i picked and loaned up a random CD from that table it was Six Litanies for Heliogabalus when i went home that day i listened that CD when i were reading some H.P. lovecraft. after that ive been hooked in zorns music

one thing i love about zorn is that he isn't content to confine himself to a singular genre; not many composers are willing to cross into grindcore. its pretty admirable.

Anybody know of any film clips of zorn when he was using a DJ with decks and other instruments , but i think he was holding up cards with numbers on and each person was a number, so as their number got shown they played their instrument

This is great! John Zorn is one of my favourites, along with Frank Zappa, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Olivier Messiaen and others. He creates some truly amazing music.

I wasn't really into music at all until I started listening to Zorn a couple years back when I was fourteen (so you beat me!), but since then I've bought tons of CD's, moved my parents record player into my room and got it functioning again, and have gotten into vinyl. So really I owe my taste in music completely to John Zorn (or, the friend who told me about him).

@CodyRicheson I know about Boredoms, Painkiller (one of my favourtie band), and I know about Sun Ra aswell. Hanatarash is the only one that I havent listened, but I know that its another EYE project.
