@Drednots Yeah and he won the fight in the process HAHAHA
Pissed the crap out of good old Hagler.
"Come on bitch" - Hagler.
"Nooo" - Leonard (in an amusing/mocking/annoying manner).
Hagler gets more and more pissed and makes more mistakes. Ali's type of conning tricks used here, you have to give Sugar Ray great credit for that, he's a legend... Coming off a 5 year lay off, who in the world could pull off such a miracle, but Leonard?
This is the boxer who I have pattern my fight game after. Who gets stronger as time goes by. The abiltiy to fight both ways. I take pride in not being one dimensional. Glad to see that smile on Marvelous face at 9:28, a truly happy and respected moment!
@gerald45678 Don't mention the fact that SRL waited for years to get in the ring with Hagler when he was well passed his prime in '87 when a fight was offered in '83 - '84 x2 and in '85.
Mayweather is doing the same thing to Pac-man, He is trying to wait him out.
@Midwaytyrant actually it's the other way around. Arum is waiting for Mayweather to decline. Mayweather is older and relies more on reflexes than Pacquiao does. Why has Pacquiao been fighting all of these washed up Top Rank fighters over the years? Because Arum can make more money off of him and he is going to continue winning. Arum knows if he matches Pacquiao up against Mayweather, he is not getting as much money and he knows PAcquiao will get outboxed easily
@truebeliever786 WTF SRL's left eye problem was in '92 due to accumulated damage from boxing, he never dealt with it in the ring. You keep screaming about FIVE YEAR LAYOFF, You seem to forget my friend that layoff was started by RUNNING from Hagler and then after the fight which MANY believe Hagler won- SRL refused a rematch. I believe SRL was a great figher but I lost a lot of respect for him as a man and a fighter- He even admitted to ducking a prime Hagler.
@Midwaytyrant Wrong it was in 1981 due to Thomas Hearns persistent pressure and those thunderous right hands on Leonard's eye. That caused the retina of his left eye to detach, so he couldn't see from it. That's why he retired in the first place. He tried a comeback in 1984 but that screwed up, but then finally in 1987 he fought Hagler, because he knew that Hagler wasn't the same guy as he was in his prime (he lost a lot of his ability after the Mugabe fight)...
The fact that Tommy broke his hand on Hagler's head and Hagler not even flinching proves that Tommy never had a chance with Hagler and this is coming from a big Hearns fan.
@donray4 I personally love Marvelous Marvin Hagler as a fellow fighter, as a kid he was my favorite fighter I thought Leonard cheated him but the Greatest Middleweight to ever fight is Bernard The Executioner Hopkins nobody dominated and controlled the 154-168 division like Hopkins did.
@PumpUPdaBase no he fought at super middle in a few fights but for the most part yeah never super welter and only super middle on his way up never as a champion
@Duecewilliams i love hopkins hes my favorite active fighter and easily top 3 best middlewieghts ever but im not sure if hed beat robinson or hagler and if he did they would rob it from him like they always do to hopkins
Fair enough he Hagler beat Tommy and all credit to him but Tommy did break his right hand in round 1 and I think it's a little misleading not to mention this little bit of information. I mean essentially Tommy can't really fight back so Marvin would have won anyway.
If Tommy could of made it to the end of round 3 he would of been declared the winner, because the doctor had said Hagler was only allowed to have one more round
To quote Larry Merchant," srl STOLE that fight, fair and square."
Its been a while since I've seen that fight I remember Hagler gave away a lot of the early rounds and didnt start to pressure srl from around round 5 onwards.
As for the judge who scored it 10-2 rounds to srl, no comment
@silversamurai1000 i was talking about that judge in particular, sorry for the bad wording. If SRL gave Hagler a rematch i think Hagler would have tried to KO him, knowing he couldn't trust the judges
srl would of never given Hagler a rematch, he would of also realized what everyone else did, that Hagler should of tried to outslug him instead of outboxing him from the orthodox stance. If you read the The Four Kings by George Kimball it tells you that Leonard spies in Haglers camp realized how frustrated Hagler got when his sparring partners got "on their bike" and refused to engage him. Which is the reason he fought the way he did.

@capablemachine - IMO Despite the broken hand, Hearns was clearly too winded to finish the fight with Hagler.
