I think it's mostly about the abs. I can feel my abs fail when I do it, but no other muscles have problems.

The guy who is standing on him is too far up on his body, becoming mostly a grip and some pulling type feat.. which don't get me wrong is amazing.. but it IS a core exercise and I'd be more amazed to see him stand lower down where the core will actually be taxed with that weight.
it's not impossible, but it would be a heck of a feat to pull off; he could train his core to do this by having the passenger slowly lean their weight further down the body towards the core... My issue was only that it would have been more taxing on his core to have his legs fully extended and not turned upwards; but meh, not too fussed.
2 b honest, i think it would be near impossible. iv also done this with mat kaye from 3run sat on my hips (he weighs 11stone), i found it very difficult and could only hold it for about 6-7 seconds. and just so you know, i can hold a flag straight legged for 20 seconds ;-)
Smoochf, you have actually proven in this reply that it is not impossible to support the wieght of a second person during a flag after the core muscle point. By having Mat Kaye sitting on your hips he is past the core point, i would like to see this feat, any chance you could upload?
I dont think of duration of holding should really matter after 2/3 seconds when holding a passenger, simply the positioning of said second wieght; any extra wieght is also extra strain on the muscles.
its a test of grip and shoulder strength, it hurts a lot having all my weight plus his resting on 1 arm and just in case u were wondering, im 6ft as u were commenting on height and leverage ;-)

Top lat and oblique. Grip is fairly minimal (about the same as abs while pushups) as is bottom anterior deltoid. Hope that helps.

agreed, it is more of a test of grip than shoulder strength. the flag is all about leverage. the longer your body, the more difficult it becomes.
