The larger the screen, the better the effect.. the more concave it is the immersive the virtual world... Id say johnny is a genius but that seemed pretty obvious. too bad i dont have any resources other than a youtube account
Re: needing every single angle-- There are already methods for texture synthesis that allow for creation of realistic images of what may be *behind* an object. Thus, you don't need every angle imaginable. Just take the ones you can and generate realistic possibilities for what you can't see (and if not through texture synthesis, then CGI shops may fill in the blanks). Sure, you can't record everything at once, but that doesn't deny a convincing 3D interpretation of what has been recorded.
3D works better with "virtual reality" type films, and those are becoming more common, kinda like beowulf, so i guess it would be possible to watch a film in 3D, just not a "real" film, but if it catches on then more movie makers will be inclined to go for the virtual reality option.
It isnt impossible to shoot movies using this principle. Two cameras in stereo could triangulate the images and form a 3d depiction of whats being shot. Its not science fiction, and it could be done to some degree (you couldnt watch the whole scene like in free view mode but it could give you some freedom to the sides and a 3d depth perception to it)
I've also seen wrap around cinemas (I've seen one film on one, it was a 360 shoot of a carnival) where theres about 6 projects on the ceiling of the centre of the room, and they all face outwards to circular walls. Very cool stuff.
Actualy you can have it to some degree. Philips is working on 3d screens and they use software that transforms 2d films in to much more realistic 3d looking films.. So to some extend its possible.
All that technology is bullshit and the manufacturers all know it. Its built upon the innovator premise. new technology is expensive. Even if it becomes out dated pretty quickly the money is already made. It doesnt take any R&D resources to put multiple LCD layers on a screen. Maybe some investment in the Manufacturing, but thats about it. Then they get to charge you some ridiculous Ipod figures to be an early adopter. You fags are why the free market sucks ass.
Ofcourse i whish these new technology`s became implemented faster. But the Fact is that company`s still want to make as much mony as possible. 1080 FullHD screens are now the cashcow, so unfortunately they are still not willing to invest enough in these new technology`s. Afther full HD(lcd) has played out they will probably trying to sell us OLED as the new `NEXT GENERATION` witch is now being sold by sony (only in japan). Perhaps afther that they will make the dream of 3d television come true..
personally, i'm really happy to see evidence people using my work. plus, it shows people that anybody who wants to try can get it working on thier own computer.
they block off the light from your left & right eyes every other frame, while at the same time the pc generates an image for the LEFT eye @ 1 angle, then a right eye image at a different angle. this creates a REAL 3D image even when stationery. but you need at least 100Hz. LCDs are too slow @ 60Hz.
You're absolutely right. I just didn't realize that stereo glasses enabled you to move around in 3d space and actually move behind objects. Wish I had known that years ago when we had them on the master system.... So yeah this has been around for years.. Nothing new here...

thats seriously cool! but yu carnt use this for other programs such as games or movies, can yu?
if so id buy a wiimote and do this.

I'm really sorry but I want to laugh at you so bad.
movies?
how on earth could you watch 2d films in 3d?
Sorry I know you were asking politely...
but movies? Hah
(Btw some games do support this kind of principle)
yourmumsuncle 4 years ago 2
hey its a idea, could yu imagine watching a movie using this. look mate think outside the box.
RCbasher07 4 years ago
I'm not saying the idea isn't cool, it's just not possible atm and it probably won't be possible for a long time.
This tech works on "seeing" two dots and plotting their points.
If you wanted to capture a scene in 3D you'd have to either CGI the whole thing, or be able to "film" in 3D.
yourmumsuncle 4 years ago
i was thinking maybe yu could change formats or somthin (if thats really stupid i dont care, im not a nerd)
RCbasher07 4 years ago
but how could the studios film the movie from every single angle imaginable. they'd need 1000's of cameras and they'd all get in each others view.
preschmanager 4 years ago
they couldnt.
RCbasher07 4 years ago
Exactly!

And soon, VR films will be completely indistinguishable from real life...and then all hell breaks loose.

i think he means me. he thinks LCD screens have high refresh rates. they don't. so shutter glasses wont work.

lol, never heard of LCD shutter glasses?

Yes I mean mgaz was an idiot. He's equating stereo vision to head tracking. It's got nothing to do with each other.
thesteef0000 4 years ago
i'm not confusing stereo vision with head tracking at all. u just think i am.
u r also wrong 2say they have 'nothing' 2do with each other.
The connection between the two is simply that 'perception of depth' is possible in two ways.
& this is 1of them, though movement.A few ppls brains use movement as a primary perception of depth anyway.
The point is that ppl look @this & go "'WOW' never seen anything like it, its the future"
but almost no one realizes there alrdy is a way 2 see depth.
