  • @GAMER654 The 1998 Mustang GT had 225HP compared to the 1998 Firebird V6 with 200HP. Now the V6 Firebird would hang with the Mustang GT for awhile, but that GT will run low 14's and the V6 Firebird will run low 15's in the 1/4 mile, no way you could walk a GT all the time. It has 25HP on you, and a lot more torque.

  • @mattspontiacta Nice, but I never bought the Mach 1. My LT1 is a cool car but mine has blown head gaskets and bad heads... I still have it but its out of commission. And before it died it get beat by my mustang, but I am not into racing really. I buy American muscle for the look, sound, feel and heritage. Its more fun going to car shows than the drag strip blowing rods and ripping out rear ends. Id rather spend my money on other pass time hobbies which I enjoy more.

If you're worried about speed and always winning you should probably not buy a 1993 LT1 because now days they make ZR1 vettes and such that would embarrass a LT1, 285hp is nothing when family cars are coming out now with 300+. lol

  • @SuRihtanil I respect your opinion, glad to hear you still have the bird. There is always a faster car out there be GM, Ford, and such. I have never lost to a 2003-2004 Mach 1, or any stock Mustang from the 80's to 2010 in my 93 LT1 Firehawk. My car was rated at 300hp in 1993 with the SLP Firehawk package. It runs mid 13's in the 1/4. Basically a second faster than what the 93 Trans am ran in 1993. I know it won;t run with a 2011 Mustang GT as they are 412 hp.

  • @SuRihtanil The new family sedans are quick but not quick enough. My 93 Hawk now has a full exhaust and runs in the low 13's at 105 mph. It will hammer most new sedans in the 300 plus hp range like the Nissian Maxima with no problem. I like my power and looks of my American Muscle always will. Now get your formula fixed and drive it.

  • @mattspontiacta Mine is a 96 formula 6spd. A couple bolt on, exhaust work, I lost to my friends 05 Grand Prix GXP with his kid in the back, wife in the passenger seat. I think his GXP is rated at 305hp. His GXP also beat our other friend's auto1994 Z28. That is the moment I lost some interest in my car. I also lost to a 1996 Mustang Cobra I was on my way to walmart, and that really chapped my ass! My mustang is a 1994 GT with some mods done to it, and it lost to it as well.

  • @SuRihtanil You should have beat the GXP by a length or 2 unless the GXP as been modified. There is a GP GXP vs a 1995 Formula on you tube, the Formula wins. The GXP has a exhaust done, and the Formula has a cutout. The GXP takes him off the start then the Formula catches and passes him. The LT1 should beat the GXP of the line easy if its in proper tune, Fresh optispark, sparkplugs and plugwires. The LT1 cars are getting old and alot of them have not been kept up maintenance wise.

  • @SuRihtanil Before I would stroke it look at what you have now. If over 100k then I would do new sparkplugs and plug wires and probably a new optispark. Go with AC Delco or Delphi optispark which is OEM factory. The opti runs about $325 new, dont buy the $125 junk on ebay. If you do the optispark ,replace the waterpump also. Its expensive. But she runs like brand new. Opti, waterpump, sparkplugs and OVC Taylor wires ran me $525 in parts. I did it myself. Well worth it.

  • @mas12310 Yeah you're right about mustang having more modding available, my 5.0 mustang had tons of stuff I could buy/upgrade, but my 1996 LT1 formula has only a small area of mods available compared to my 5.0. I will say however my LT1 is so much faster than the stock 5.0 I had.

  • @SuRihtanil yeah i have friends with both cars stock the LT1 is far faster but they both have had the cars for 8-10 months and his is still stock while my friend with the mustang has a full exhaust, gears ,and a CAI and has surpassed him, mods for 5.0 are affordable and all over

  • LT1s are a good match for a 99-04 GT. LS1s are a good match against Mach 1s. But you have factory freaks on both sides. And sometimes a gear swap and a good driver wins the race.

  • First of all y'all need to get your facts straight the new 2011 stands run 13.0-13.2, the new camaro runs 12.8-13.1 so for all you stang lovers there not faster, they hiped them up way to much and the reason for the good test runs was becasue they put 3.73 and 4.10 gears on the stang which are not standard on any of them unless you special order it

The formula had gears and exhaust and maybe a cai or something. the mustang had back cut valves. port and polished non-pi heads. pi cams and pi intake. gears, full exhaust and some other small shit.     Actually, the only Pontiac I'm really a fan of is the Firebird/Trans Am and the old school GTO, and that's about it. Chevy was awesome, but the past 10 years have just sucked. Frankly I don't like where GM is headed, so I give you that. The mustang is an uncommon, oversized, overweight car. The v6 98' Firebird is faster than the v8 98' Mustang. True duals can easily be done on the F-body platform if you know what you're doing. If spark plugs are an issue for you, just stop. GIve up

And besides, no GM enthusiast is shitting himself if the Mustang is FINALLY beating out Firebirds or Camaros after 12 years of being behind. The 2011 GT vs a 4th gen LS1 Fbody is also a debatable race that doesn't exactly have the new GT dominating the FBody. Maybe Ford is making a turn around in the next few years, I don't know. I don't really like where GM is going, so who knows how the next few years will be?

  • 4.6 engines make no bottom end power unless they are supercharged and have the DOC heads , and ford didn't put those on anything but cobras.

  • A lt1 has around 285 hp stock, the gt mustang only has around 225 stock, it wasnt till 2000 did they change something in the pistons or something to give it around 265, I really doubt the trans am was tryin or maybe the gt was just really modded who knows

  • In fact I have a1998 Camaro Z28. It has full Hooker exaust, that's encluding shorty headers. A yank 3800 stall converter, and a computer tune, so pretty much a stock car except bolt ons and it runs 7.70's

  • F-bodies weren't faster from 87-91 when they were still using the TPI motor, so you can't really say they've "always" been faster. Also The Boss 429 and old Cobra Jets would lay down some ass whoopings too.

  • Oh I definately agree for the most part they have been. Some cases like when the 96-97 Cobras had the 4V and the f-body still used the LT1 the mustang was faster, but once 98 came around and the f-bodies got the LS1 they were pretty much untouchable stock vs stock.

    I wish GM wouldn't have stopped f-body production right before the 03 cobra came out, I would have loved to have seen what they would have countered with.

  • Yeah definitely, I really like how the F-Body's were light, good looking and rigid. Not exactly practical but the looks and speed made up for it very well.

    I'm really looking forward to a non-retro design for the 6th generation Camaros.

  • actually the 96-97 SS vs 96-97 cobra really came down to a drivers race. but i think ford put most of there time in the cobra. because why would anyone leave there best selling mustang at only 215hp for 4 years before finally bumping it up 10 hp.

    in '99 they changed it to 260-265 stock at the flywheel. 96-98 were NPI (non performance improved) motors, with weak flowing heads.
