please put a grab bar at the entrance there, above the heater as she reaches for the sink. You all are so gracious to each other. Lovely work and a great option!

Ever try cast iron tubs with porcelin tile fronts? Basically the same just more work obviousely. I gotta do one like at noon & im gonna post some pics tonight hopefully. Im sure youve done em before but if u havent u should check out the pics. Interesting stuff
It looks like the tub overflow is higher than the cutout. If the person starts filling the tub and forgets about it (been there), the water will overflow onto the floor where it can cause damage considerably more expensive than this retro-fit. Is this correct or did I miss something?
Never a problem so far. These are hard choices for handicap people. We have yet to see an insurance company or government agency assist with this type of modification,. So when the choice of being able to bathe or not and be able to stay in their own home is weighed out all appreciate the option. Any tub can overflow with a simple drain clog cut or not. The benefits far out weigh the risk of overflowing water. Weigh the odds and risk of slip and fall ingress or egress injury or death,
I guess it depends on whether or not a plumbing inspector takes a look at it. In my area, it is a clear violation of the 2006 National Standard Plumbing Code (Ch. 7.8.2) and would be a major issue when I went to sell the home and the building inspectors made their rounds.
We have a kit with a door in it but many elderly handicap people on fixed incomes cant afford 2 replace. I have seen elderly people cry out of happiness because they get to stay independent in their home or keep a loved one with them. I also had an 86 year old man who could not carry his wife anymore cry when we modified a tub and set things up where he could keep his wife at home. Replacing the tub maybe 10K 4 A handicap one. Tub Cut Under $800. Humanity first.
No its not that simple. If its fiberglass we use a fiberweld technique. Cast iron and steel we use a Marine Grade two part polyester filler that chemically bond the panels. The panels are glazed with what is used on tubs. Sometimes the whole tub sometimes the edges depending on the customers needs. Cast iron is like cutting a railroad track but we do it. Steel and Fiberglass are easier. We enjoy the process as it helps people and we make a reasonable living for our efforts. Best part of the job.
could you tell me , after the cutis made, what material do you use in the space of the tub wall and how do you affix it? is it strong enough for a heavy person to step on?
We rebuild the interior structure to a point that the panels are virtually there for decoration. If you could picture or imagine on stepping on a stack of anchored 2x4s then you get idea of the strength. They are built within a manner so that they support the weight of a care giver and the user both being heavy.
