I should say that this person didn't need fame and stardom, though talented enough for a host of artists herserlf, she turned her attention to other mattetrs. (All conjecture, of course). I hope her current projects -whatever they are- are as fulfilling as the music she recorded! Though hers is accessiblr, I miss a voice like it in today's pop music.
The only thing I'd ever heard hers was Pretty Girls & Gonna Get Close to You-I think that's the title-& I'm on the W. Coast. Little Cdn-only-dist. artists -like Luba- end up owing huge bucks to record co.s w/ no way to repay unless you get US or Int'l. dist. & promo. There just aren't enough people in Cda. alone. Anyhow, I liked her voice when she SANG; I have no clue what kind of weird Ziggy Stardust crap this is, but it is not doing anything to show off her chops & it has no soul.
This is another Dalbello song that Heart has covered along with Black on Black... Lisa u r so amazing come back and perform for us.. we miss u large !!!
She did do background vocals for Boz Scaggs single "Miss Sun", she really does have a great voice. And David Lee Roth ripped off her album makeup job for "Whofourmansays" on his "Eat Em and Smile" LP. Check it out.
I just can't understand why Dalbello didn't endure the industry for much longer than she did. She has such a strong, rich voice and it's pure magic. She was always a little ahead of her time. All of her songs are creative and have something different to offer. I hear her once in awhile in commercials, now. Wish she'd give it another try.
She didn't record any Diane Warren songs..... why didn't she want to record commercial, "sellable" songs? Maybe because she thought pop music at the time was shit.
This is from 1984; Heart's version is from 1987. I agree--Heart's is more straightforward rock. The arrangement here has got more of a goth/new wave feel to it. If you like Dalbello's version, I highly recommend the WhoManFourSays album from which it hails. Very dark and powerful with strong 80s electronic feel. She seems a little crazy/deranged throughout the album, but it totally works.
I just love this song. I always thought that no one else had ever heard of it. Thanks people for showing that there are some other Lisa Dalbello fans out there.
I bought the music casette with this and other Dalbello-songs in the early Eighties, and listened to them for years. I remember that she appeared on Norwegian TV; maybe it was in 1984.
Love the lyrics of her songs. And those drums are great.
There are actually a LOT of lyrical differences. The opening for example: Lisa A pretty little altar boy daddy's little pride and joy change the water into wine touch yourself and you go blind Heart Daddy's little soldier boy Momma's little pride and joy both hands on the apron string don't you touch that dirty thing Not to mention the fact that musically it is totally different!
Wow! I've been trying to hear Lisa D's version of this song for a long time. I was only familiar with Heart's remake. They are very different, but there are some vocal embellishments that Ann Wilson took right from the original!

Great song - - I only know the Heart version (one of Ann's BEST recorded vocals ever). Dalbello's vocal stylings are not my cup of tea, though.

@Onlydreamin1959 she has a wicked voice, etherial lyrics, and a base, almost animalistic sound / feel to her music! If only....

Lisa Dalbello may be one of the most influential lesbians in Canadian history. (besides Anne Murray.)

The song is awesome , but the group "Heart" does a better job of nailing the high notes . this one is boring . Long live Ann and Nancy Wilson ,

look on the myspace page for her, you can at least hear it. Seems nearly identical to heart's lyrically, so not sure why they get writing credits...

sorry, it was on there recently, but just checked and no 'black on black' on the page anymore - sounded REALLY good, tho.

Guess Heart made the lyrics more mainstream to appeal to a bigger audience. I'd take Dalbello's lyrics over theirs any day. She Rocks!

Even that time in the early/mid-80s when high quality music was standard Dalbello nevertheless was an outstanding artist with unique sound and timbre
