  • pls start seliing these . hopefully in linux

  • Suck it!!!, Apple.

  • Pleeeeeaaaaassssseeee tell us how to mount the accelerometer

  • 700 dollars, you could buy a good gaming computer with that. I bet your specs are pretty good though (not like a netbook) I plan on making one of these with an old laptop and some misc. parts

  • I know it's really expensive to put a multitouch overlay on this, but I was wondering... could you possibly get the digitizer from another tablet and wire it onto the homemade one? It would be cheaper, but I don't know if it would work the same.

  • how does it get its power, and about how big do u thing someone would be able to make this, lastley how many modifications to the design could be made?

  • This is really cool. its even better because window 8 is coming out

  • Question: How did you format the drive?

  • Flash support.

    Take that, Apple.

  • @Drakk0Pr0ductions mobile devices are being weaned off flash player. HTML 5 won.

  • Spend 600-700 bucks on somethin I'd have to build... Or iPad

  • What motherboard did you use?

  • I dont understand what or how he did it it with the batterY? Any1 have any clue?

  • @Radiokiller66 rechargeable Lit-ion bataries aren't that large.

  • thanks for sharing this man...

  • hey man, i know probably you have a lot of questions and stuff from other people, but i was reading your blog and seen everything you did, and have only 2 questions:

    - could you possibly do this WITHOUT a donor laptop, just some parts?

    - during the CF casing, you used a breadboard, idk what that is, but can u recommend a different material.

thank you and i sincerely hope you answer my questions.

    -Mr. AwesomeAsian22

  • hey there...nice vid...it's really 'out of the box' invention....btw i would like to do the same like ya....mind if you share it with me....i'd really be my pleasure f u want to help me

  • Man I am starting to make one tomorrow...How much was the build cost on this beauty...great job

  • I'm starting the planning phase of something similar. I'm debating on putting in something like a ps2 controller on the sides but mapping it to the mouse and L/R mouse buttons like a huge psp. Are you happy with your touchscreen or would you have preferred another option? Alternatively, I would be able to connect to it with my phone, so I'll always have an alternative.

  • And yes One More Thing.. What about the heat..When you use this device does it really get hot after using????

  • Dude this is F'n incredible....

In a world where people are stuck with the choices of iPad and the other crap out there this would sell like hotcakes.

You really should consider to a more in depth and detailed 'how to' for building this.

Consider putting a donations button on your blog page and tell people once you reach a certain goal amount you will put up the detailed instructions.

Plus you should have a forum for people to take this design and improve upon it farther.

  • @johnross1968 you can buy them from dell or lenovo already.

  • @carltongamble It's definitely not fake. How would I fake something like this?

  • Loooks laggy

  • @MultiThisguy123 it's a 1,6 GHz Atom processor.....What would you expect......

  • how did you take off the screen and flip it around

  • @TheJaredPaine See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com/

  • how did you make the carbon fiber mold

  • @TheJaredPaine See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com/

  • @TheJaredPaine See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com

  • and you have an ipad !!!

  • what motherboard did you use?

  • @Defstryker oh

  • @Defstryker See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com/

  • @Defstryker See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com/

  • how much does it cost

  • hmm the touch screen lags

  • Nope. Try paying attention for more than ten seconds.

The pad lags only when loading process heavy programs, like a HD movie or Firefox. Same thing happens to the iShit. Tablets just don't have the processing power available to them.

  • @GSNRecords Well GSNRecords i think you should record iPad's functionality. It definitely doesn't lags, even when you play HD games, it just flows like water. I own one & its smooth like anything.

On other side this device definitely lags EVEN WHEN YOU TYPE SOMETHING.

So GSNRecords why don't you pay some attention.

  • @1234fuckubitch

Who cares if an ipad doesn't lag?

It's absoletuley useless anyway. With iOS you can't do anything.

iPads are only good to play games and use facebook in the bathroom...

  • Hey, how did you make the casing for it?

  • You really created this?

  • what does the inside look like?

  • I want to build one!

  • How did install a mobile battery pack?

  • its too large! from looking at the keyboard the only way you can type one this it by lying it down then typing because you cant hold it and type with both hands... :(

  • i see only one problem...where is ubuntu?

  • @slampana what on-screen keyboard software are you using ?

  • @wsimard

it's default in Windows 7 when you have a touch screen installed.

  • You should make loads of these and sell them. Why? Because you would OWN Apple.

iPad = Early Tiger Electronics handheld.

    This thing = PSP.

  • I have Windows 7 on my laptop and I tried the on-screen keyboard. It doesn't look like yours and I can't hide it to the side of the screen like you did. What did you do ?

  • better than cheap ipad copys :D

  • ewww resistive touchscreen

  • is it multi-touch?

where did u get the screen from?

  • only a resistive touchscreen they should build it with a compassative touch screen like the ipads ipods and iphones.

  • check out mine! /watch?v=S6ZX4LuRpAA

  • can i buy one?

  • cool! You also watch true blood

  • what is thats computer's name?

  • where can i buy that computer in da internet?

  • Oh, man! Awesome job!

  • You should try out meego, or moblin on there, they were built for tablets.

  • Can I buy that off of you?

  • Honestly I never comment on peoples videos but this is amazong work. You should seriously consider finding a trustworthy person to handle getting a loan for mass production. That or propose the video to microsoft....well they might steal it but get this piece patented and go for it. You could make tons. Either way I am really impressed, truly innovative.

  • whats the battery life

  • @05mdadu See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com

  • Hehe... I don't think you should take anything from all the people that are giving any sort of negative feedback regarding what you have accomplished slampana. You have made an awesome device that they wish they had an iota of the amount of talent you have shown in making it on yer ace! I'm pretty sure you could put any OS that runs on a PC on yer little beauty and it'd run a treat.

Fantastic work, I take my hat off to you sir.

  • Great job, too bad it wouldn't be worth it to sell these given all the manual labor.

  • amazing

  • i am working on something similar everyone and i might sell it but we will see how it turns out. I expect 2 more weeks.

  • Nice!! On your blogspot you say that you used a macbook pro power button. As i look at the whole unit, it seems you made a mold of a macbook pro and put everything in it. The body is the same. Other than the screen part i'd say it's a copy of the macbook pro. Good job though!! Keep it up!!

  • @stoneground1 No, I did not use a Macbook Pro as the mold. The Macbook Pro is larger and thicker. I custom made the mold.

  • Cool project, but I don't think I could ever get into watching movies on a 13 inch screen.

Still, this is a helluva feat. Congratulations.

  • @smohan123 When you have the screen 2 feet in front of your face it's like watching on a huge TV at normal sitting distance. The size is relative to how close you are to it.

  • Hi Slabama

    GREAT WORK ;-)

Do you have plans of production and selling?

Are there any outputs e.g. VGA, DVI or sound?

  • @Farfartt No, I don't have plans to sell it. There are no video outputs, but there is audio out for headphones.

  • An ACTUAL tablet computer, that's awesome. Does it work reasonably well with a stylus (i.e. drawing tablet)?

Very impressive in any case, definitely a much better bang for the buck than the damn iPad. I want one. :D

  • Really nice work there.

Are you using any special video drivers for the gma or anything like flash beta?

  • @MajinFrahma Yes, good drivers and the proper version of Flash are very important.

  • Nevermind.. Will you be selling these?

  • Comment removed

  • why the hell is everyone such fucking hypocrites ! only because its from windows u think u can call it good?

  • This is amazing. Very nice work man.

  • im impressed but really there is no reason for the accelerometer and you should water your plants

  • what are the dimensions (whd)?

  • @mrkiki911 Did you watch the video?

  • omg u owe me a new pair of pants

  • Nice. What's the battery time you get on this thing?

  • @NilsJeppe See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com

  • what kind of motherboard did you jam in there?

  • @Monger4142 See my blog at carbontablet.blogspot.com

  • Carbon tablet == graphite ?

  • @ClarkMills Carbon tablet = carbon fiber tablet

  • this thing is badass,

  • This is good stuff, but might seem uncomfortable holding it with the hand as it weighs 2x as much as the ipad

  • Why aren't you working at Microsoft?

  • looks very laggy. I think ur better off with linux on a portable like this.

  • This is fucking awesome dude! good job! the only people who hate on this are the retards who shelled out the 5-800 dollars (or whatever it is) for the ipad.

  • Cool, now try and get WebOS on that thing :D

  • @LightxEdge I'm pretty sure WebOS was not designed for a 13.4" screen.

  • it's home made? WOW, that's impressive!

  • way better than the ipad. go tablet pc!

  • You should sell this and make bank!

  • Very nice!

  • Cool gadget! :)

  • this 10 times better than the IPAD are you kidding me!? work with microsoft for a licensing agreement and your a millionaire!

  • @Naxxlax That's funny considering I started working on this before the iPad was even announced.

  • @slampana If you say you started before, how long did it take to complete? congrats it looks charming.

  • @Naxxlax Haha. Nice try macfag. Much better than the ipad. Why? The iPad isn't actually a computer.

  • @Naxxlax are you retarded Apple did not invent the tablet pc...Your just another gay apple fan boy who picks apple products because they are user friendly since he cant use something better but more difficult.

  • @Naxxlax Yeah, even though the first tablet PC was made at least 20 years ago

  • @Naxxlax Dude, the first tablet PC was made at least 20 years ago and this is just another tablet PC. Just like the iPad is. Nice try, macfag

  • fuck the ipad

  • nice work. except no decent video card :(

  • neat project, but there' just one fatal flaw.... Windows7...? Microsoft...? a paid OS...? why? lol, weak.. you should really look into this thing called open source.

Other than that it looks nice.

  • Amazing, although could give a thew touch ups.

  • Great work!

  • I wanna buy one! lol

    Simply PERFECT!

  • That's really cool...Make it slightly more thin, tweak the OS to work smoother and it's ready for sale :)

  • The videos look jerky and the OS seemed to be slow & unresponsive at times.

I like the concept though. Nice work!

  • Very good work

I wish this was a real product, the carbon would have a cool effect

  • Looks nice but very rough. Do you have plans to work more with the carbon fiber to give it a smooth finished feel? Also the link for the touch panel on your blog is for a 15 inch and there is no 13.4 on that site. Do you use the 15 inch panel and it only takes input of the parts showing?

  • @nullr1 I am not going to be doing anything more with the carbon fiber. I am fine with the way it is. And yes, you are correct about the touch screen. It is a 15" panel and it only takes the input of the parts that are showing.

  • how do you right click?

  • @lastwarrior911 If you press and hold for a second or two it right clicks.

  • @slampana um camrea please

  • This is amazing! I wish I could be as crafty as you.

  • very nice! especially since it was DIY

  • Well I have got to say that no wonder, US is at the top today. People make all these things in their homes!

  • Patent it, put a price on it, mass produce it, make tons of cash! What are you waiting for?

  • Thanks! Thinking of making one!

  • iPad just got SERVED.

  • This is pretty cool dude, my only few get ups about it are how the rotating transition is choppy, and theres not front/back camera on it. Cant belive you payed for and ipad and then all the materials to make your own windows pad though lol. sooo much monies.

  • Great job man. Really good work.

  • you already got an ipad, why would he need something smaller. It looks like you made it out of an old laptop but looks good anyway. You beet me to it i wanted to do this for a while but have been waiting on better quality of video and plugs.

  • it's a little too big...

  • better than any fanny pad, well done.

  • It seems a tad slow, is that because of the touch screen or that the processor can't handle Windows 7?

  • very strong......

  • Only one big problem and his name is Windows...

  • is it yet to be release.......or released??

  • the amount of DO WANT i'm feeling right now is staggering. Given half the chance i would love to try and build one of these for myself

  • Windows sucks.. use linux and this becomes more interesting

  • I've always wanted to do this. Awesome job!!! Maybe you can enable multi touch as a future upgrade ;D

  • looks frigging amazing! congrats man :D

  • Sweet! you should either sell these or write up a DIY manual for others.

  • What type of touch screen did you use. Did you come across a multi-touch one of similar specs?

  • fuck all the haters, you're the man

  • I have a question for you.

How awesome do you think you are? On a 10 to 10 scale, 10 being awesome and 10 being fucking awesome?

  • nice attempt

  • @mattflipsk8 What are you thinking? Do you have any idea how much more useful than an iPad this is? It's running a full Windows 7 install, you can install any Win7 app you want on there. The iPad doesn't even have a full OS on it, they're not even in the same ballpark.

  • @mattflipsk8 wow... that was the most uninformed, "unwilling to think of Windows as anything other than what you deem it to be" comment I've seen anywhere in awhile. Unfortunately form doesn't equal function. The iPad is proof of this. You aren't Steve Jobs are you??

  • i like. thats awesome man

  • what did it cost to make?

  • @frenchie418 Read the description, huh?

  • Nice job man, you should try running a modded version of Android on that thing. Plan on making any future revisions?

  • Yeah, but how much did it cost? I could prob buy an iPad and have like 300 left over, not including time for knowledge and labor.

  • @JustSayEffit You obviously didn't read the description.

  • I really dont care for the carbon fiber. I just love the independent concept and how well it works just from this initial vid. If i wasn't already planning on getting a Dell Streak, i would buy this tablet because it's not perfect and this type of construction could lead to a start up. Nice slampana.

The fact that you used District 9 and True Blood for the demo translates to me your solid film sense. Bonus.

  • Carbon fiber = pure win

  • dude that is the shit i hope someone wants to make it and with a bit of development spent will out rival the ipad quickly

  • District 9 is awesome!
