  • what happend to the sound?

  • "I want it to cook for *ever* such a long time!"

  • I was teaching about this today and it is true about the English slant. One of the yr4 children sensible asked was it the same in the rest of Britain. I'm English and British and I get annoyed when people forget that four home nations fought in this war.

  • Good Grief...Grandma's back must ache from carrying such a load...

  • Lol!!

  • Excellent clip, good advice too, never over boil your greens in too much water!! :-)

  • dude...!!get off my cabbage!

  • That is how it was in the days of severe rationing in England during WW2 years.

Apart from boiled cabbage, there would be fried Spam, which I love, even to this time in 2008.

There was also egg powder(re-constituted eggs) and Pom potato powder. Each person was rationed to: two ounces of meat, two ounces of margarine, two ounces of cheese, two ounces of loose tea etc etc. These items could only be obtained with a Ration Book. That was Merry England in 1941, plus The Blitz. Those were the days.

  • It was pretty much the same in Scotland and Wales. It's so sad that English people still can't get this right.

  • get what right ?

  • BerlinBunker1 is one of the millions of English - and many Americans are guilty too - who equate "England" and "Britain". I was making the point that Scotland and Wales, too, had rationing during WW2.

  • you are right !!!! ,

  • To be fair to BerlinBunker1 there was no implication that England is Britain... you can mention England without also needing to mention Scotland and my nation of Wales or Northern Ireland, it is fine.

And at least the Americans have heard of Scotland, and yer have a parliament with some powers, Most Americans I meet think Wales is a town in England... and that's more funny than anything... and to be fair, what do I know or most Brits about American culture?

  • and there was no overweight burger munchers!

  • Hmm Women to serve me as I eat.. sad.. If only girls nowadays do that..

  • LOL. That was funny.

  • I want it to cook for eversuch a longtime......

  • Move over Delia!

  • This was great fun, I'll never look at a cabbage the same way again.

  • Oh my God! It's Enid Blyton come to life.

Please note that Alan is actually rather common - observe the way he holds his knife.

The fight at the end clearly influenced Martin Scorsese.

  • I noticed that. :P (the knife)
