  • nice drum kit you have there mate!

  • Man you got the best drum setup ever.

  • good playing

  • Damn, that was tasty!

  • who would dislike this

  • Hey nice video. Rob Leytham is my former drum teacher. That definitely sounds like the type of patterns we would play in our lessons together.

  • Very well done.

  • What kit and snares? Sounds georgeous!

    And really great stuff!

  • you're a real ostiNUTo!!!!!

  • Very, very very impressive. Great job man! Thats some serious ostinato!

  • beautiful!

  • nice

  • Great job. Thats not easy stuff.

  • Excellent.

  • Holy shizzle nizzle !

  • excellent ostinato pattern. i was impressed with the control. very fine work!!!

  • Very Nice,

    And some exellent control!

  • Very impressive sir.

  • This ostinato was created by yourself or did you get it from somewhere else? Nice job...

  • Thank you. The hand pattern and samba BD part was in a Rob Laytham book on Ostinatos and then I added the left foot clave part on the HH.

  • i was like... WHAAAAAAAAT?!? sick, dude! sick!

  • awesome

  • nice job!

  • Well done, great coordination. I myself just purchased "The New Breed" yesterday and I am working through it. I can't wait to really study through it heavily, it is a great book for sure.

  • Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I hope to get more posted in a few months when my new drum room is built.

  • @COJeepin hey man I have to ask, what tempo on the metradome did you use when reading with the kick drum exercises? I can not seem to do 16th faster than 80bpm. How do you know your tempo marking? thanks

  • oh wow this was great,

i just picked up a gary chester book for the first time and have done some major research on gary chester and his concepts. I just started playing about a year ago and now that im in highschool I've gotten alot more serious about it.

your coordination and timing is perfect, truly perfected in my opinion.

  • Awesome independance and it all sounds very tight! Many drummer's timing becomes compromised due to the difficulty of this level of coordination but your playing this very accurately. Even your left foot is perfectly in time with the rest of the ostinato! Fantastic!

  • you can scratch your ass while doin that...

    great stuff man!!!1

  • Fantastic!! That's a tough ostinato to play, moving your left hand around like that, but you make it feel great.

The New Breed really is the greatest book ever. I don't know what I would do without it. Check out some of my videos if you have a chance!

  • awesome

  • nice done!

  • sorry i have a cuestion ,where do you study drums???

  • I haven't studied with anyone in years. I studied for about 6 or so years with a guy called Mike Smith (awesome big band player in England) and then a year with Francis Seriau at Drumtech in London. Since then just being doing my own thing working on different books and ideas.

  • Hello COJeepin, I study drums with my teacher, and learn from books at home. I also play in a band to use the things I've learned.Playing with others is the best way to learn. If you don't have someone at the moment to play with place an ad in a local music magazine and see what response you may get. Or place an ad right here on the internet. Then for sure a lotta people will read your call. Good luck. Mary from Holland.

  • Thanks Mary. I have done my fair share of playing (especially with big bands) and a recent session for a single coming out soon. I now have 2 kids so kind of enjoying family stuff for the moment.

  • Very good job man! it was a very professional performance. 5 stars.

  • your indepenece is insane !!°!

  • Thanks for the kind comments. I like the challenge of the independence stuff, and it seems to never end.

  • thats why you're better than me! (unless you're like Donati and are barely able to groove, but judging by this it doesn't sound like it)

Never forget though, when playing with a band play what is needed, if the band gets crazy you get crazy, if not simple is better!

This stuff is always awsome for soloing! Hope to see you in a clinic some day!

  • incredible!!!!11

  • Well DONE! I studied with Gary from 1983 to 1986. He loved this kind of dedication, because he knew how hard it was to get to this level. For an added twist though the reading melody to the right foot and play all the rests with the left foot - straight 16ths. Right foot plays notes and left foot foot (hi-hat) plays 16th rests. The dotted eigth and 16th you are playing on the right foot moves to be played on the floor tom. Enjoy!

  • Nice idea, I have added that to my todo list when I am done with the current system I am working on.

  • amazing...i am 15 and i just started working out of his book and i know how difficult it is to sing the parts and whats more play it all left hand. i hope to get to this stage of the book one day

  • Great idea Alex, I will look forward to seeing them. Will give me motivation to work on them some more.

  • Good job, man! I'm studing some paterns using the new breed too.. I'll upload the video, so we can trade some ideas and learn with each other. Hugs!

  • Excellent stuff. Too bad about the camera angle, would have been nice to watch both hands.

  • thank you for playing a melodie from the new breed book with ostinato. your demonstration is a powerful learning tool.

  • VEry good !
