  • Should I learn this move or a back handspring first?? Plz reply.

  • with this movement do need to use one hand

  • need a slow motion? hold space :)

  • Is that really what helped you in your backhand spring? Because I am in dance & my instructor told me to look up back hand spring tutorials & I think this could really help me. It looks really fun & exciting (:

  • But how can you do this move if you can't support your weight with just one arm? I can do a handstand (I can't hold it for more than a couple of seconds), but I can't support my weight with one hand or arm, which it appears you have to do to do this particular skill. I want to be able to do a backflip by my birthday, and this is one of the moves I plan to do to get over my fear of flipping backwards, then hope to do a back handspring later in the year, but with no gym nearby, it will be tough.

  • @cjs3872 You're not actually trying to hold yourself up with one arm. The arm is stabilizing you, and in the direction which you're going you're at most going to have SOME weight on your arm for maybe a quarter of a second. At that point your arm isn't directly beneath you anymore so the weight will be off and your other arm will have touched the ground.

Don't be afraid of flipping backwards either. Practice macacos and put your faith in really soft grass. Will not hurt if you commit :)

  • @caGh0s7

In fact, I toyed with trying a macaco down a small incline today at the field I go to, and couldn't even kick my leg up because I lost balance before I got to that point. I did, however, do a few cartwheels, a round-off, and straight jumps tuck jumps, but have virtually no confidence to flip in the air backwards at this time. And I'm not sure my arm can even support my 205 lbs. for even a fraction of a second. And the grass was soft today due to rains yesterday.

  • @caGh0s7

And the reason I was attempting a macaco is that's one of the steps I hope to complete in order to try a backflip by my birthday, though the lack of arm strength will work against me (I've got the arm strength of a 12-year old, and I'm 39). And that field six blocks from where I live is the only place I can go, and I can't stay there all day, plus I don't want anybody seeing me, so when a car comes by, or I see someone walking, I stop what I'm about to try to do.

  • @cjs3872 Ignore them. Ignore everyone. Whether they judge you, insult you, or leave you alone, don't respond to them unless they're politely asking what you're doing or want to learn how to do it, or might even know how to help you. Do not let ANYONE interfere with your goals because they're something that YOU want. If you really want it you won't let it slip through your fingers. If someone were to be negative towards you, there's no reason to give up your own time to give them what THEY want.

  • @cjs3872 About the arm strength issue....you need to keep your arm straight when you go back. you also need to make sure you're doing exactly what Epic says in this tutorial, such as kicking your hips up and jumping off your legs. Just keep practicing and you'll get it.

You don't need superhuman strength for this move. Technique > Strength (for most moves :P)

  • @caGh0s7

You also need bravery to do this move, and I haven't yet got the bravery or the strength to do it. now I've recently toyed with trying a backbend kickover, and if I can start doing them, and doing them quicker, I might be able to do a macaco, but I just dont have the bravery to do anything where I have to go blindly backwards. I can't even get myself to try a standing backbend unless I have sturdy objects stacked up about 2-3 feet high to support me, or do one against a wall.

  • @cjs3872 Well, I can't tell you what to do. You're going to have to get over the fear yourself. But you have to realize that just going for it will usually work best. You may mess up, but seriously, if you're on a soft surface, NOTHING CAN GO WRONG. When I was first attempting my backflips on grass, I landed straight on my knees, and it didn't hurt at all. You have to take advantage of the fact that actually trying the move and landing will hurt less than bailing in the middle of it.

  • @caGh0s7

Well, I'm going at it slow and what I think are safe steps, which is why I first tried a cartwheel, then am trying the kickover. After that, I'll probably try a macaco. Balance is a big problem for me. When I tried a macaco on a hill, I actually lost my balance. Another problem for me is my weight. I don't know what you weigh, but it's almost certainly not anywhere close to my 205 lbs. Getting close to 40 years of age doesn't help me, nor does a history of fears and anxieties.

  • @cjs3872 If you really want a back flip by your birthday, you're just going to have to do it. Of course, all of us would usually say to be careful with your safety and health, but knowing that if you commit to it, you will most likely land safely and perhaps even on your feet. At this point I can't think of anything other than to sack up and go for it. I'm not trying to sound harsh, but that's what got me through the fear of going backwards. After the first few tries, you won't be as afraid.

  • @caGh0s7

One thing about me committing to something like that is my history of fears and anxieties, one of which is not wanting anyone else to see me practice those kinds of things. I've actually done straight jumps and straight tucks on the field I visit to practice, and I can do those things, even straight tucks. I'm just trying to go step-by-step in my own mind, and since that field is the only place I can go, and I can only practice a few minutes at a time, that might delay me.

  • @caGh0s7

And my birthday isn't until August 31, so I've got plenty of time to plan my steps, and what to do next. But without an accessible gym nearby, a trampoline to use (the backyard where I live is not a safe place to use a trampoline, anyway), or anyone to spot for me (my weight's an issue there, as well), it will be a time-consuming process. With daylight savings time coming up soon, the amount of daylight later in the day will help me, but my step-by-step process will take time.

  • @cjs3872 Well, as long as you go for it sir :) I'm definitely sure you can do it at your age/weight. I've seen quite a few people who aren't exactly Olympic athletes doing what you want to do. It'll just take more work

  • @caGh0s7

Well, I was just at the field and had hoped to do a kickover, but ran into one problem, and that was winds gusting to over 40 MPH, so strong in fact that, among other things, the winds blew a plastic bag about 25 feet in the air, and was actually causing the light towers there to sway a couple of inches. For me to even try a flip, the weather must be right. It needs to be warm enough for me to wear light clothing, and the winds must be down, preferably no wind at all.

  • I remember when I was first learning this move.. Don't stress it if you can't do it right away, enjoy they progression stage, that's more fun than when you actually perfect the move. After you perfect the move, it won't be THAT fun anymore ;)

  • Great tutorial! Thanks

  • Thanks Liu Kang

  • my legs keep going of 2 the side wen i spring off any tips

  • kinda like monkey flip with much control

  • @souravsamanta1 monkey flip is copy of macaco, move originated from capoeira.b-boys and gymnast just dont focus on control and qualit of movement so much.

  • easyy :)

  • TNX MEN IT REALLY HELLPED ME IM JUST 13 AND I NOW BACK FLIP FRONT FLIP AND THIS...XD

  • whic hand i am gone use when ı do macaco right or left

  • @mrt198 both if you want it for capoeira.

  • Well, the one thing that would make this trick difficult for someone like me is the fact that, to do a macaco, you'd have to be able to support your entire body weight with just one hand/arm. For someone of lighter weight, that wouldn't be so difficult, nor would it be for someone younger, but for someone like me, who'd eventually like to try to do flips of some kind, but is closing in on 40 years of age, and weighs 205 lbs., the problem is that I can't support my weight with just one arm.

  • Hey I got this down pretty well but I want to work on adding a 180 or 360 to it (while doing it off an elevated surface). I've seen alot of people doing it but I can't really get it so far (i can do the 180 but land on my heels). Any tips anyone?

  • Ta sabendo legal!!!!

  • is it like doing a monkey flip??

  • Anyone that has done this, any good advice/ways of getting over the fear of going backwards?

  • @IFishyI You're not alone, bro...

  • @IFishyI You have to say screw it and just do it. Accept the possibility of messing up. If you do, just try it again. Whenever I hang out with my friends and we are trying new tricks it's scary but if you just say f*#k it and do it it seems to make the fear diminished. Trust me, i had been doing backflips for 2 years and when i decided to try and attempt a roundoff to backflip I was doing roundoffs for an hour before I actually tried to add the backflip. If not, invest in a trampoline.

  • @KidBlack74 Do you jump to the side as like a confidence builder? Most people start by jumping to the side, then gradually going further and further over as there confidence builds up.

  • @KidBlack74 Also for strengthening in regards to this, just do back bends :)

  • @gamindsoc1509 oh thanks man..I still don't have it yet like you said I do go off to the side..I need to work on it I appreciate the advice i'll think about that the next time I practice

  • did anyone else notice that it was 2-o-clock in this video?

  • i end up doing a cartwheel...

  • some people like to call this a rainbow

  • this was terribly easy to do, thanks for the video, it gave me alot of confidence to even try it

  • thumbs up if this looked kind of easy so you tried it and got too scared to try.

  • @DjDiddlez117 I don't this happened to so many people.... thumbs up whore!

  • I know this from Tekken... :P

  • is this similar to a monkey flip?

  • To anyone that can do this move: This move requires back flexibility. I can do a backbend easily. So, am I enough flexible do to this?

  • @toastersman217

If you do this too much with your back, it is'nt good for your back.

The sense of backbend is not really that you get back flexibility, you should let your back straight.

I think to do this move it's good to have a good shoulder flexibility. And also for Flic Flac or Back Hand Spring:

Let your back straight! Don't do a Back Hand Spring with your back! If you turn into a hollow back, this is NOT good! I practise apparatus gymnastics, so I should know that. Greets.

  • press always on 3:13 :D

  • Did it first try. Thanks for the break down. Love Your vids

  • @cjs345 i did lol

  • nice! XD

  • Not bad, but I prefer Flic Flac :D

  • 13 people busted their ass doing this

  • OH THE NINJANESS!!!!

  • You sir, are an impressive teacher. I learned this solely from your video. But I have one question, if you please? I start on my right hand, and instinctively can't reach my left hand to the ground. It's the same way when I do back handsprings on the trampoline. I know it's bad for your arm if you spring onto only one (from having sprained it in the past), and was wondering if you have any tips to retrain myself to put my left down. Please and thanks.

  • What are some prerequisite to get down before learning this???

  • this have to be the best way to learn back handspring without a spotter!

  • monaco!

  • This really helped, sir. Thanks for your tutorial. You explain very well. I was just wondering, can you train for a macaco by doing a back walkover and then practicing to do it with one hand and jumping?

    Thanks anyway!

  • Nice Bro, Good breakdown on the macaco! God Bless.
