Love the videos on how Marxism can be applied to more contemporary/relevant issues! I also really like this Microsoft paint (?) method of displaying the ideas in the video!
@TheMarxistMind Thanks. I thought it was time to experiment a little with my medium. My powerpoint style wasn't providing what i wanted. It was too linguistic, which is something already provided by the audio. I decided to go with the current style hoping it would be more image or spatial based, in order to provide something not already present. And of course, I really appreciate the feedback.
You had done a video on Marxist Alienation, which was very thought-provoking. Could you describe the topic from the point of view of open-source software developers, who make software under GNU General Public LIcense ? Remember that companies do employ these developers and make profit out of their labour, and that, if I make s/w A for company B, then probably my name won't be involved anywhere.
@galluer just to clarify, when you say your name won't be involved anywhere, you mean that you won't be listed as the author or creator of the proprietary software made for an employer, is that right?
@MarxismToday Thats right. The patches we make go by the name of our company, but I guess its better to work with Open Source Software where everyone has access to the fruits of my labour, rather than a single capitalist. I might be loading a burden on you, but please go through GNU General Public License (which you will find very interesting) and let me know your analysis on it vis-a-vis Marxist Alientaion. Thanking a ton for your interest.
@galluer It's not a burden at all! I've done some investigation on open source/ and GNU years ago because of my interest in their meaning from a Marxist perspective. I may have to revisit the issue for the podcast. But be warned that I'm not always very quick at getting to particular episodes.
@MarxismToday GPL - Summary -- 1> The software (along with its code) is available for free usage, editing, etc. Only that, if you used Software A and modfied it to S/w B, then, you hve to make 1> The code available to everyone freely 2> Implies that your software remains free too (except a few areas). I have to admit, that I have never studies GPL, and that I could be wrong.
