It must of been so hard to be in a tank in WW2 you could have hardly any movement in an artillery strike and stuff, and once your tank got hit your gone.
The British Mark I was a tracked vehicle developed by the British Army during World War I and the world's first combat tank, entering service in August 1916, and first used in action on the morning of 15 September 1916.[1] Born of the need to break the domination of trenches and machine guns over the battlefields of the Western Front,
In the book "Tank men" a Russian WW2 ex-tankers wife said she had to nudge him awake for years after the war because he was tossing and turning, re-living his wartime experiences in his sleep, and tell him "You were in your tank again"
@piecrust21 sure, i would shoot them on their chute, its war and a pilot or the tank crew can man a new plane or tank next day and fight against your comrades.

GREAT Vid! Thanks for creating/posting this. I had an uncle in an M4 Sherman in WW2. He was USMC and his tank was knocked out by Jap anti-tank gun near Manilla. Lucky he survived, even though he lost part of his stomach and several feet of intestines. US Marines are almost as tough as the tanks themselves...
cont. btw; I love the last minute where you show an awesome display of Armor insignia and medallions. Harder and harder to find the WW2 medallions. Also, the German Panther knocked out near the cathedral in Cologne was taken out by one of the very few Pershing tanks with 90mm gun attached to the 3rd Armored "Spearhead" Division. Great book "Death Traps" by Belton Cooper about the 3rd Armored from Normandy til end of war. Definitely worth a read.
@mapexblack Its not actually the gun but the shells used in the guns, Germans had better armor piercing shells for their signature ack acks. Regardless, the Pershing was leagues better in terms of survivability compared to the Sherman.
My goodness me!! I was laughing my ass off listening to the singer on war pigs! Speech impediment + worse english skills than my (norwegian) grandmother!
Anyways, ballbuster: the original song is war pigs by Black Sabbath. The coverversion here i don`t know i`m afraid :)
At about 6.00 there is footage of a German officer scooting along in what is an American-marked tracked vehicle past a wrecked American tank plus more showing German soldiers swarming over knocked out Shermans. Would I be right in assuming this was during the Normandy campaign or perhaps later, Battle of Buldge?, but no winter clothes??
my favourite tank is the The Panther Class F with likely with a variant of the 88 mm L/71 gun. ntil 1950, the T5 "Panther" was the best tank available to the Romanian Army.
One captured vehicle (nicknamed "Cuckoo") also saw service with the British Coldstream Guards for some time
@ozeangruen I do know the panther f saw action during ww2 but i thought that the tank was still armed with the 75mm gun, plus I imagine only a few panther f's were made so how did the roamanian army get any of them.last the panther 2 was going to be armed with the 88mm gun when introduced as part of the E series tanks.
I totally agree, the vid was originally made to Sabbaths excellent war pigs but was muted due to copyright issues. Had to re-edit using this royalty free Argentinian cover version.
Your the one that doesnt know what the fuck hes talking about you made the remark about shooting the tank as the crew got out and I let many Iraqis dlimb out becuase they were wounded and on fire and not fighting back we bypassed them and infantry took care of them. and you have no idea what your talking about find out what the U.S. rules of engagement are. this conversation is useless!
Ozzyfan maybe you should get off your fat ass and join the army or marines and go over to Afghanistan and start shooting people like you believe you should and we will see how fast your ass comes back in handcuffs! Our guys have their hands full trying to defend themselves and not breaking the fucking rules imposed upon them and its not the Geneva Convention rules its the U.S goverments fucked up rules which are crazy thats why we will have alot of casualties from Afghanistan.
Ozzypunk87 Your just a fucking stupid ass kid I have been in war 2 times and shot the shit out of 23 tanks so dont talk shit to me, we piled up the bodies in Baghdad and we took alot of casualities in Baghdad but in the desert they had no chance. And we caught many by surprise and they threw their hands up and we didnt shoot them or we might go to jail!! The U.S. has rules of engagement and if you violate them your ass could be fried, Levanworth for life or even 25 years isnt worth it.
The rules of war state that if POW's or civilians are killed by the enemy, then repercussions maybe taken. And there is no way you were in any war. Because a real vet wont bring it up all the time like you do. your just a dumbass who cant be taked to because all you do is go off on whatever you want to talk about. I dont even know what i was owning you about because you just go on and on about nothing.
Ozzyfan87 If you go on that premise then I guess you would shoot sailors in the water once you torpedoed their boat, Thats murder and thats the same as shooting unarmed soldiers walking towards you to surrender. We had 30 soldiers in the back of the jet on the way home from Iraq and they were all in hand cuffs charged with murder! shooting civilians, rules of engagement were cant shoot them if they dont have guns in their hands.
What you need to understand is what a war actually is. A war is between nations and states, not between its people. The difference between killing an armed soldier who is trying to kill you and killing a POW is so vast that if you don't see the difference, I feel very sorry for you for actually believing that. If I kill an armed soldier, it is because he threatens me and my fellow soldiers, and therefore in a long chain of events would threaten my nation's security.
What you need to understand is what a war is. A war is between nations and or states which each either wish to invade or protect their state from one another. What stops a nation or state from doing so is that the other state has an defense force. I you try to invade me, at the very least my soldiers will kill you until I am over run or I defeat the invader. That is a what a war is at the very base. Now POWs and soldiers a very different things.
What you need to understand is what a war is. A war is between two or more nations or states which each fight to defend tehmselves from the other, they are each trying to reach a certain goal. Killing a soldier and killing a POW is very different. Why do you kill soldiers? Because he is ordered to invade or defend you from his or her nation or state. If you don't kill him, he will kill you. That is what a war is.
If you kill a POW, you are killing someone who can no longer affect the war, and longer threaten your nation. A POW is just another human being who is no longer involved in the conflict. Killing hi or her is murder, and many nations have agreed to that. Their is honor in war, I am surprised to here you say that. In the 1800s, war was primarily a thing of honor. Today that is very different, most american soldiers have little education and a mostly poor.
That is why their is no more honor amongst american soldiers. Canadian soldiers are known for tehir honor and efficiency in war, we proved that time and time again during WWI and WWII. I would be proud to fight along side of Krylogenic, he still has honor and human morals, your mind is twisted just as a terrorist who targets civilians believing it is the right thing to do, it is insane and not what war is. If you talk to soldiers from WWII, they are the same as american soldiers today.
And why would you bring up the shooting of civilians, and POWs? I would not shoot a civilian or POW without cause, and the rules of war give you reasons to shoot POWs. Saying i would be like a Nazi is just stupid. If your the type of people we have in Iraq, then this military needs a big overhaul. I damn sure would not want to be in combat with you.
According to General Chuck Yeager the plane was stalling and about to nose dive and he got out on the wing and saluted and jumped. The story was told back then and its still the same today and I believe him because he is an honorable man and he also told of one of the ME260 that nearly shot him down and when they disengaged he followed him back to his base and shot him as he landed and he said it was not right killing him as he landed but he said he knew he would lose the next time they met.
Yeah I know we pumped two rounds one right after the other in the tank and it usually was within 3 seconds apart. Now If I saw the turret blow off or a huge fire ball I wouldnt fire another round and if I saw men crawling out of their tanks I felt bad for the poor devils and I didnt shoot them with the coax I am certain the Pershing gunner saw them becuase they were at 100meters and thats point blank. You can see the first hole in the left hull and the second in the bottom of the turret.
The Pershing was not doing right by killing the crew as they were abandoning the tank, Chuck Yeager shot down a me109 and the pilot got out and stood on the wing and saluted him and then jumped. Chuck Yeager just smiled and made sure he landed ok, He had some honor, the crew in that Pershing might have had a hard time before the end of the war Karma does exist and it comes to all war doesnt give you a murder card. On Either side.
It was common practice on all sides in WW2 to keep firing on enemy tanks until they started to burn. This made sure no one was left inside who could fire back and most importantly the tank was left unsalvable.
Thinking like that is what gets you killed. There is no honor in war, thats just a myth to get people to fight. And besides, if they had let that crew live, they might have just went down the street and taken up positions to fight again.
@Ozzyfan87 I guess with thinking like yours you would shoot sailors abandonding ship floating in the sea because they may get on another ship one day and kill you so just murder everyone! Then you would be no better than the Nazis murdering innocent people or shooting prisoners. IT also show you dont know what you are talking about one plane recently coming back from Iraq had over 30 soldiers in handcuffs because they have murder charges pending against them! Fact!
imagine driving along the road all that noise in the tank and then bang, the anti tank gun or tank had a massive advantage and could hear their enemy coming a mile a way,dam poor lads.
@joostevens Agreed. Try having the balls to step in 6 or 7 of them after the previous ones had been knocked out. Too bad they couldn't have all made it back.
It is amazing that the US could not or would not come up with a tank that could match the German Heavy tanks one on one. Thousands of US tank crews met their death because of this.
You know, that is something that just boggles the mind, that the US and the USSR too, could both think more of producing large numbers of tanks, than thinking of the human lives sacrificed. But the M4 Sherman, while being an excellent medium tank, was a death trap against the Tiger and Panther tanks. I could talk all day on this subject, so I better quit now, lol.
@mjp2501,yeah I think its just generally that the countries with so much manpower did not have to worry about losing men,it was easier and more effective to have quantity rather than quality, yeah we could go on all day about it
We could talk about it all day. My dad was in the Navy in WW2, and I guess that is one reason that I have been an avid student of the WW2 years. Hitler was the anti-christ himself it seems, but I have to admire what the German military accomplished, as far as the high quality of their Armoured vehicles, ships, and aircraft they came up with. They were constantly coming up with improvements and new inventions.
@mjp2501 The war was a close run thing with both sides coming up with improvements. The Sherman kicked but on the early nazi tanks and the Pershing that came in at the end of the war was better than a Panther. When the US came up with the Sherman, which was better that the vermin nazi tanks when it came out, they put in an order for 300,000 of them and set up production lines for it.
Ivan, you are correct, we produced far more Shermans than what the Germans could produce. And that was the root of the problem, the US doctrine was, that if we could not beat them with quality, we would beat them with quantity. But, with each Sherman fielding five crewmen, an awful lot of tank crewmen lost their lives fighting a superior Tiger, or Panther tank.
You sould look at what happpen on the easternfront to understand the slaughter matches that were going on. A 3 to 1 lose ratio was consideed normal against an equal oponent when you are on the offensive. 4or 5 to one for the sherman against the tiger is not that bad considering how inferior some think the sherman is.
Ivan, People may get the impression that I am slandering the Sherman Tank. Quite the opposite, the M4 Sherman was an excellent MEDIUM tank. It was never intended for the Sherman to take on heavy tanks, where they are sorely out-gunned, and out-armoured. It was the US military doctrines that screwed up big time, forcing the Sherman into deadly situations.
The Sherman's were outgunned & out amroured by the Panther, Tiger & King Tiger tanks. While the late year and upgraded Panzer IV's were about on the same level and slightly better. Sherman's were medium tanks. Panther's were classed as mediums but were heavier than the average Allied medium tank. Tiger's & King Tiger's were heavy tanks. The only thing the Sherman had over German tank's was range, reliability & numbers.
you guys forget that the USA had to ship their tanks over the ocean to get to the battlefields. Logistically, you could get more medium Shermans on to a ship than you could do with heavy tanks the Germans or the Soviets did not have to do that
I acknowledge the logistics you speak of. Yet the US military deemed it acceptable to lose four to five Shermans for every Tiger tank destroyed. Strictly numerically speaking, this is sound thinking, except that every Sherman had a crew of five, can you imagine the devastation caused by a German 88mm shell exploding inside the confines of the tank? Thousands died this way.
The US military resisted making changes to the M4 Sherman, because that would have interrupted production. The British offered to supply the US with it's 17 pounder anti-tank gun they were putting on their version of the Sherman, the Firefly.

Looks like footage from "Operation Goodwood" between 18-20 July 1944.

my favourite tank is the The Panther Class F with likely with a variant of the 88 mm L/71 gun. ntil 1950, the T5 "Panther" was the best tank available to the Romanian Army.
One captured vehicle (nicknamed "Cuckoo") also saw service with the British Coldstream Guards for some time
ozeangruen 1 year ago
@ozeangruen I do know the panther f saw action during ww2 but i thought that the tank was still armed with the 75mm gun, plus I imagine only a few panther f's were made so how did the roamanian army get any of them.last the panther 2 was going to be armed with the 88mm gun when introduced as part of the E series tanks.

Krylogenic 1 year ago
Ozzypunk87 Your just a fucking stupid ass kid I have been in war 2 times and shot the shit out of 23 tanks so dont talk shit to me, we piled up the bodies in Baghdad and we took alot of casualities in Baghdad but in the desert they had no chance. And we caught many by surprise and they threw their hands up and we didnt shoot them or we might go to jail!! The U.S. has rules of engagement and if you violate them your ass could be fried, Levanworth for life or even 25 years isnt worth it.
Krylogenic 1 year ago
The rules of war state that if POW's or civilians are killed by the enemy, then repercussions maybe taken. And there is no way you were in any war. Because a real vet wont bring it up all the time like you do. your just a dumbass who cant be taked to because all you do is go off on whatever you want to talk about. I dont even know what i was owning you about because you just go on and on about nothing.
OzzyFan87 1 year ago
Ozzyfan87 If you go on that premise then I guess you would shoot sailors in the water once you torpedoed their boat, Thats murder and thats the same as shooting unarmed soldiers walking towards you to surrender. We had 30 soldiers in the back of the jet on the way home from Iraq and they were all in hand cuffs charged with murder! shooting civilians, rules of engagement were cant shoot them if they dont have guns in their hands.
Krylogenic 1 year ago
And so by you logic if you snuck up on a group of the enemy, and they didnt have guns in their hands, you would not shoot them? Am i right?
OzzyFan87 1 year ago
What you need to understand is what a war actually is. A war is between nations and states, not between its people. The difference between killing an armed soldier who is trying to kill you and killing a POW is so vast that if you don't see the difference, I feel very sorry for you for actually believing that. If I kill an armed soldier, it is because he threatens me and my fellow soldiers, and therefore in a long chain of events would threaten my nation's security.
tyldahl 1 year ago
What you need to understand is what a war is. A war is between nations and or states which each either wish to invade or protect their state from one another. What stops a nation or state from doing so is that the other state has an defense force. I you try to invade me, at the very least my soldiers will kill you until I am over run or I defeat the invader. That is a what a war is at the very base. Now POWs and soldiers a very different things.
tyldahl 1 year ago
sound like from Klausewitz
ozeangruen 1 year ago
What you need to understand is what a war is. A war is between two or more nations or states which each fight to defend tehmselves from the other, they are each trying to reach a certain goal. Killing a soldier and killing a POW is very different. Why do you kill soldiers? Because he is ordered to invade or defend you from his or her nation or state. If you don't kill him, he will kill you. That is what a war is.
tyldahl 1 year ago
If you kill a POW, you are killing someone who can no longer affect the war, and longer threaten your nation. A POW is just another human being who is no longer involved in the conflict. Killing hi or her is murder, and many nations have agreed to that. Their is honor in war, I am surprised to here you say that. In the 1800s, war was primarily a thing of honor. Today that is very different, most american soldiers have little education and a mostly poor.
tyldahl 1 year ago
That is why their is no more honor amongst american soldiers. Canadian soldiers are known for tehir honor and efficiency in war, we proved that time and time again during WWI and WWII. I would be proud to fight along side of Krylogenic, he still has honor and human morals, your mind is twisted just as a terrorist who targets civilians believing it is the right thing to do, it is insane and not what war is. If you talk to soldiers from WWII, they are the same as american soldiers today.
tyldahl 1 year ago

Krylogenic 2 years ago
Yeah I know we pumped two rounds one right after the other in the tank and it usually was within 3 seconds apart. Now If I saw the turret blow off or a huge fire ball I wouldnt fire another round and if I saw men crawling out of their tanks I felt bad for the poor devils and I didnt shoot them with the coax I am certain the Pershing gunner saw them becuase they were at 100meters and thats point blank. You can see the first hole in the left hull and the second in the bottom of the turret.
Krylogenic 2 years ago
The Pershing was not doing right by killing the crew as they were abandoning the tank, Chuck Yeager shot down a me109 and the pilot got out and stood on the wing and saluted him and then jumped. Chuck Yeager just smiled and made sure he landed ok, He had some honor, the crew in that Pershing might have had a hard time before the end of the war Karma does exist and it comes to all war doesnt give you a murder card. On Either side.
Krylogenic 2 years ago
It was common practice on all sides in WW2 to keep firing on enemy tanks until they started to burn. This made sure no one was left inside who could fire back and most importantly the tank was left unsalvable.
COALMONK5 2 years ago
thats amazing how hed salute him but how do u like stand up on a fast moving plane at like 300 mph?
popsnacks2 2 years ago
Thinking like that is what gets you killed. There is no honor in war, thats just a myth to get people to fight. And besides, if they had let that crew live, they might have just went down the street and taken up positions to fight again.
OzzyFan87 1 year ago
@Ozzyfan87 I guess with thinking like yours you would shoot sailors abandonding ship floating in the sea because they may get on another ship one day and kill you so just murder everyone! Then you would be no better than the Nazis murdering innocent people or shooting prisoners. IT also show you dont know what you are talking about one plane recently coming back from Iraq had over 30 soldiers in handcuffs because they have murder charges pending against them! Fact!

It is amazing that the US could not or would not come up with a tank that could match the German Heavy tanks one on one. Thousands of US tank crews met their death because of this.
mjp2501 2 years ago
@mjp2501,people were cheaper than tanks man
fusilier45 2 years ago 2
Fusilier45,
You know, that is something that just boggles the mind, that the US and the USSR too, could both think more of producing large numbers of tanks, than thinking of the human lives sacrificed. But the M4 Sherman, while being an excellent medium tank, was a death trap against the Tiger and Panther tanks. I could talk all day on this subject, so I better quit now, lol.
mjp2501 2 years ago
@mjp2501,yeah I think its just generally that the countries with so much manpower did not have to worry about losing men,it was easier and more effective to have quantity rather than quality, yeah we could go on all day about it
fusilier45 2 years ago
We could talk about it all day. My dad was in the Navy in WW2, and I guess that is one reason that I have been an avid student of the WW2 years. Hitler was the anti-christ himself it seems, but I have to admire what the German military accomplished, as far as the high quality of their Armoured vehicles, ships, and aircraft they came up with. They were constantly coming up with improvements and new inventions.
mjp2501 2 years ago
@mjp2501 The war was a close run thing with both sides coming up with improvements. The Sherman kicked but on the early nazi tanks and the Pershing that came in at the end of the war was better than a Panther. When the US came up with the Sherman, which was better that the vermin nazi tanks when it came out, they put in an order for 300,000 of them and set up production lines for it.
IVANGROZNEY 2 years ago
Ivan, you are correct, we produced far more Shermans than what the Germans could produce. And that was the root of the problem, the US doctrine was, that if we could not beat them with quality, we would beat them with quantity. But, with each Sherman fielding five crewmen, an awful lot of tank crewmen lost their lives fighting a superior Tiger, or Panther tank.
mjp2501 2 years ago
You sould look at what happpen on the easternfront to understand the slaughter matches that were going on. A 3 to 1 lose ratio was consideed normal against an equal oponent when you are on the offensive. 4or 5 to one for the sherman against the tiger is not that bad considering how inferior some think the sherman is.
IVANGROZNEY 2 years ago
Ivan, People may get the impression that I am slandering the Sherman Tank. Quite the opposite, the M4 Sherman was an excellent MEDIUM tank. It was never intended for the Sherman to take on heavy tanks, where they are sorely out-gunned, and out-armoured. It was the US military doctrines that screwed up big time, forcing the Sherman into deadly situations.
mjp2501 2 years ago
The Sherman's were outgunned & out amroured by the Panther, Tiger & King Tiger tanks. While the late year and upgraded Panzer IV's were about on the same level and slightly better. Sherman's were medium tanks. Panther's were classed as mediums but were heavier than the average Allied medium tank. Tiger's & King Tiger's were heavy tanks. The only thing the Sherman had over German tank's was range, reliability & numbers.
thestaggie 2 years ago
you guys forget that the USA had to ship their tanks over the ocean to get to the battlefields. Logistically, you could get more medium Shermans on to a ship than you could do with heavy tanks the Germans or the Soviets did not have to do that
pauliewalnuts1156 2 years ago 8
Paulie 1156,
I acknowledge the logistics you speak of. Thousands died this way.
mjp2501 2 years ago
@mjp2501 This is because at the time they had almost 50 Shermans for every Tiger.
IVANGROZNEY 2 years ago
Paulie 1156 Continued,
The US military resisted making changes to the M4 Sherman, because that would have interrupted production. The British offered to supply the US with it's 17 pounder anti-tank gun they were putting on their version of the Sherman, the Firefly.
The US turned down the Britis
