i seen pentragram at jaxx and it was the best club show ive ever seen, they had great strage presence and sound best in a small club i think. my favorite song is relentless
It's Doom. Slow, dreary stonery Metal. It being in the 70s has nothing to do with it's genre. Compare Black Sabbath and The Who. See the difference? Pentagram being in the same league as Black Sabbath.
No kidding! When I first heard this and Sabbath's Vol. 4 I thought it was recorded in the early 80's not early 70's!! I use to think the 70's was The Who and Led Zeppelin style music.
@infidelamerica Pretty sure I read somewhere that Bobby took influences from Sabbath. And how is that possible when Pentagram had just started their first lineup in the fall of 1971? Sabbath were around as a bluesband called "Earth", long before Pentagram was conceived.
How come I never heard of this back in the day? This stuff would have went down really well back in the early 80's when Ozzy and Black Sabbath were making their resurgence.
@zwabbergat check the date of the recording, who else was doing this? not many. there is plenty of characteristics to this music that has travelled through to todays music
@drksrkng with all due respect, how do you figure? Sabbath had gotten together as Earth at a time when Bobby Liebling was probably in his way early teens. Pentagram are definitely great in their own right but I have trouble picturing them beating Tony Iommi to the punch when it comes to the doom sound.
@drksrkng I will play the devils advocate and say that yes, yes they did. Only because i think that more early doom bands were mimicking bands like Pentagram and Hawkwind. But dude, the Sab was always so much more slow and brooding which i think, as of 2011, would fit the doom niche a little more. I've had this debate with myself many times before. And yes we all know that BS came out way before, but Blue Cheer was out before them, also a huge doom influence.
@drksrkng Pentagram was influenced by Sabbath, as were Flower Travellin' Band, who also predate Pentagram on the doom front. That said, Pentagram had a unique sound all their own, and I'm glad that Bobby (and the other surviving members) are finally getting the respect they've long deserved!
This song is amazing. And look up Hank Williams III Pentagram Medley, there's a video of Hank III and the Damn Band with Bob Wayne covering this song along with "Be Forewarned". Good stuff.
@Blacksidedisaster Torres used the song for his footy in 08, sucks no one remembers him these days. Gravette is sick too but come on, gotta give it to Ernie he has Pentagram tatted on his wrist
@AnarchoAssassin Yeah, Pentagram sound like if Jimmi Hendrix and Toni Iommi had a horrible little monster child. That's what makes it so good. Or evil. I get them mixed up.
@6266Slayer If you mean it's awesome,I agree. If you mean it's like Black Sabbath, only to one point. There's certainly the blues root, the heavy, distorted sound and the dark lyrics. However, the specific sound of the bands is completely different and the lyrical themes just don't match. They're very much alike to a simple listener/fan (only on the shell),but if you're really into music and specialise in music,it's very different (and that's the core).Still, both bands are awesome.
believing or worshipping anything is a sighn of weakness it just shows how weak you are to not be able to do what you desire and want without consulting a devil or a GOD . am sure you know right from wrong so just get on with things dont be a sap who calls them self a satunist or a christian coz at the end of the day there both the same really coz your either being bad or being god and following the god for each one theres no inbetween with religions thats why you gotta step out of them boxes.
