to answer these kids questions your not supposed to play a sub at all with it out like that. show rooms do have subs out but they are in a room at the same time
Someone help. Why does his subwoofer get more excursion on the higher bass note?? is it not good to play the low loudly? mine gets way more excursion on the low note.
there are subs that are designed to be installed into a sub deck and work free air they are called (not sure on the spelling) isobericks orion makes them they are called cobalts.... mostly sound good with rock... totally different sound from a ported or sealed box...
I was talking about the word that's referred to using a subwoofer without some sort of enclosed box. It's not called isoberick (which is actually spelled isobaric), it's called Infinite Baffle. Infinite Baffle and "free air" are different in the sense that free air involves no baffle, or no board to separate the front and rear waves, where as infinite baffle does. Just letting you know :) And I do know of the Orion Cobalts, entry level subs. Nice for the price.
All this talk about cabin pressure.....WHO REALLY GIVES A FUCK! Can't we just enjoy the fuckin' clip that 90accordman has here? People talk so much shit these days. How about building your own shit and do what you feel is right with your system! If 90accordman is happy with what he has here, then that's what counts!
there seems to be alot of ppl saying that a sub will be ruined if you play it with your trunk open, i would like everyone to know that is NOT true, the sub only needs pressure on one side for it to produce sound properly, you can play it outside of the car if you really feel like it as long as its in a box. so everyone that thinks this will ruin a sub, go ahead and do this with yours, you will be waiting a long time for it to blow, if anything, trunk closed is worse for potential
@doufcha@90accordman Well, they do need the cabin preassure if your giving it more then it cant handle. I bottomed out my Solo X 12 with the trunk open, but not closed. But I gave it 4500 rms
dodgechallengerguy is right. not only does the port create pressure to keep the sub from over excursion but also the vehicle cabin creates pressure. if you were to open your boot all pressure is lost inside the cabin meaning the sub will go over its mechanical limits and evently break. example will be if you close your windows in your car and play your music. upon opening the window while playing music you release some of the pressure subs moves more freely and it gets louder.
@90accordman its not impossible to play the sub outside the car at low volumes. but the shop owners will under no circumstances be able to play as loud as you can in the car due to no cabin pressure i was on about. if they did try to play the sub in the shop as loud as they would in the car then the sub will reach its mechanical limits and get damaged very easily. the efficency of the shop inside the shop will be at its highest and wouldnt need much power to blow it.
@90accordman Hes kinda right. Although, he is kinda wrong. Your sub shouldn't blow from the doors being opened UNLESS it is already being pushed over the mech. limits, then opening the door would make it worse. But that is true. The car does act as a second "chamber" for the pressure. You will notice that if you open the doors the sub will move more, because now there is a loss of pressure in the car, so the sub is not held back as much. Alen Dante, 180.5db record, has his car sealed for that.
@masterwolf1212 i cheers mate at least someone knows something about spl. i agree that opening the doors should not damage your subs if everything is setup correctly. but opening the boot will.
@cnim1 Yes, but like I said only if the sub is already overworking. But opening the windows will gain you SPL and shouldn't hurt the subwoofer, at least not as worse. Usually when I am booming I open the windows to get that extra db. But of course when I am measuring the car is sealed.
Thanks mate! I am really into audio so I know my stuff! :P
@90accordman Well, they do need the cabin preassure if your giving it more then it cant handle. I bottomed out my Solo X 12 with the trunk open, but not closed. But I gave it 4500 rms
@90accordman It's not really bad to play a sub free air, what's really bad is if you change the pressure suddenly like opening your trunk while the sub is at full excursion. THAT could make the sub go over its mechanical limits.
@awesomeman123 what your suggesting couldnt possibly be right, this effect would be mostly seen in SUVs. and sadly it doesnt work like that, the port does not create pressure, it "tunes" the box by adding length to the exit. the reason it prevents woofers from over-excurting is because the box's tuning point is typically where the woofer moves the least, and anything under tuning frequency will cause it to start sloping more into excursion, which is typical in cheap woofers, not expensive ones.
@cnim1 I think if you've EVER had ANY expirience with subs WHATSOEVER
you would know that everything you just said
is 0% truth
windows up = more SPL = LOUDER
port creating resistance keeping the sub from 'over excursion' = false (HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO PUSH IN THE CONE OF A BTL?? YOU CAN PUNCH THE THING AND IT WONT EVEN MOVE!)
@WeeHaScootchy just from your comment i can tell its you that has no experience with subs. you can carry punching your btl (if you have one). as for windows up = more spl. thats a lot of shit mate.
@cnim1 i have noticed that. when i ported my box its loud then when i open my front windows is even louder! and no the subs in audio show rooms wont be blown. the wattage in them is only about 450watts per sub. that wont blow up even low watted subs. ive put them together.
I typically like to stay out of things, but i felt compelled to make a statement or two. I have been building custom enclosures including SPL boxes for 20 years . And any pressure transffered to the speaker would come only from the port ,hence the term Port Loading , and not from surrounding exterior surfaces. The tuning of the port will dictate the amount of internal pressure on the speaker.
@dravenssoul i am surprised you are an installer yet you do not know anything about the below statement i made. each car has its own peak frequency which is dicatated by its shape, strength and most important size. its not only the port that tunes the sub but the car will effect the tuning. port loading is only one of the factors involved as to how a sub will sound and perform. opening the boot can damage your sub if your playing loud.
once again i said it COULD damage it I never said it WOULD try reading you dumbfucks, if you use good subs they wont blow, if you use shitty subs they will, i'll just go with what the owners of the shop i go to say and yes they would be sound system EXPERTS
@dodgechallengerguy. What your saying makes no sense I have built countless systems and if your logic is correct I should have blowns dozens of subs by now yet have never blown a single sub even in comps.
lmao. no doesnt make a diff the cones on most subs breath a little anyways meaning there is usually a little air that escapes. and a good sub will do just fine in a sealed box
How could that do anything? What your saying is "Would the voice coil overheat from too much electricity going through it and fry from opening the trunk with a sealed enclosure?" XD
the box bieng sealed or not doesnt matter, and yes, if you are an idiot you can cause damage to your sub, if the trunk is open you no longer have a positive pressure giving resistance against the cone, wich in turn would make it easier for your speaker to bottom out resulting in damage.
your thought process is pointless, the subs not "open air" and the suspension is stiff enough that within that enclosure i can play the sub with the trunk open no problem whatsoever. youtube "know it alls" like to read way to far into stuff
I didn't mean the way you interpreted it, believe me, I know alot about how to treat subs, you need to keep it in a constant pressure like your trunk, with your trunk open that pressure isn't there and it COULD damage your sub, it may not, but it certainly isn't good for it.
@DodgeChallengerGuy hahahahahaha you made my day with your stupidity!! Lets think about home theaters real quick is there a truck in your living room? Well ill just leave it at you were joking right? there would be no pop trunk action in your sad little brainless world. haha hah trunk pressure "noob"
You are right about one thing... people on YouTube that post comments tend to go way over the top with trying to sound smart, when really they have never even done anything they read about or have even seen it.
Why wouldn't you run your sub open air? I hope you understand there is no harm in running a subwoofer IB as long as you understand you can't put as much power into a woofer run IB against running it AS, that's it.
even with sound deaming it will still rumble and vibrate. but I noticed with my last system i had sealed with 2 15s and it didnt really rattle it was loud and clear maybe not as loud as ported though.
This is sickness I love this this my favortite vid on youtube. I downloaded this song for my two 12 mxs when i got them. i cant wait to get these monsters
last time I heard a sub bottom out it sounded like a very thick cardboard roll being struck against a large piece of metal very hard more like a loud pop or bang that tapping is something rattling
hey i have a 2 cube box ported with a 10 inch hole cut out for a sub, what would you suggest. im also pretty low on cash but i dont wana get a crappy sony xplod, im not that broke.
why does this song hit hard on everyone's subs but mine? Is it my sub? my amp? what? I have one 12 inch JBL 1000 watt sub with a Dual XPA2100 2-channel amplifier. It's sounds great with songs like A Milli, Go To Sleep, Shoulder Lean, and a bunch of others, but when it goes to low notes like on this song, it hardly hits at all.
your not going to peak at a higher frequency if your running the sub in a ported box thats tuned to 30 - 32 hz etc. You will peak there because thats what the ports tuned. But the car is a big part of that
lol your so wrong in so many ways. that peak you speak of is determined my other factors besides box tuning. the same exact box will peak at different hz in different cars.
to you have any experience with winisd, bassbox pro, leap or any other kind on acoustical equipment?
if not what is your experience with THIS sub.
if you have no experience with the parameters of this sub or it in many different boxes like i have then please just stop wasting everyones time and STFU already.
yeah..i understand but if you wanted it to be the loudest it could be you would be at 32 hrts, you wouldnt have a problem playing the low low notes...
your incorrect, all it does it makes the peak lower then what it is currently. i didnt want a 32hz peak hz if i wanted that i would have tuned it at that
wrong box bro...the low note that song plays, you should be at ur max excursion when that is playing, not the note it plays thats higher...its still low, but you need to tune that bitch to around 32 33 hrts.
the box wasnt made for lows it was made to be loud on different genres of music. the video was just to show people the new sub, just people on youtube and the net seem to think the sub has to move all overthe place for it to be loud.

well the box if its a prefab box is most likely tuned high 30s or even 40 hz
where most boxes that pick up lows are in the lower 30s.
this is achieved by changing the length of the port
90accordman 3 years ago
most prefabs are up in the 45-46hz range.

why does this song hit hard on everyone's subs but mine? Is it my sub? my amp? what? I have one 12 inch JBL 1000 watt sub with a Dual XPA2100 2-channel amplifier. It's sounds great with songs like A Milli, Go To Sleep, Shoulder Lean, and a bunch of others, but when it goes to low notes like on this song, it hardly hits at all.
bullet4mv93 3 years ago
your box is probably runed to high to pick up the notes
90accordman 3 years ago
My box? How can the box be tuned too high?
bullet4mv93 3 years ago
Differing the port volume. . .

zellner16 3 years ago
they dont have the same sound, i like the sound of the w7 better then this woofer, but this woofer was louder
90accordman 3 years ago
yeah man it looks like its tunned in the 40s
chevyman217 3 years ago
Explain how It "looks" tuned in the 40's please.....
I see nothing that suggest so.
xazax632 2 years ago
Because there is abass note that's in the 40's and it did it's best on that note.
And A basshead's instinct.
chevyman217 2 years ago
Ha Ha, OK.
xazax632 2 years ago
yeah, have you finished your system build?
chevyman217 2 years ago
Negative... Still waiting on my recone from DD, been about 3 weeks... And to be finished with my doors, rear seat, and center console going back oem.
xazax632 2 years ago
Fyi subs move more when they aren't playing close their tuning frequency and barely move when playing a frequency that's the same as your box tuning.

How is the bass quality of this sub
VideoUploaderr 3 years ago
its a great sounding sub, its not an sq sub but sounds better then the SX imo
90accordman 3 years ago
what kind of rms power can these mx's take??
mysubsbang 3 years ago
no you wouldn't man
your not going to peak at a higher frequency if your running the sub in a ported box thats tuned to 30 - 32 hz etc. You will peak there because thats what the ports tuned. But the car is a big part of that
sparco317 3 years ago
well your incorrect too buddy. first off. if you tune to 32 hrts you will peak around 43-47 with that sub...soo get your facts straight.
SeanFarley25 3 years ago
lol your so wrong in so many ways. that peak you speak of is determined my other factors besides box tuning. the same exact box will peak at different hz in different cars.
to you have any experience with winisd, bassbox pro, leap or any other kind on acoustical equipment?
if not what is your experience with THIS sub.
if you have no experience with the parameters of this sub or it in many different boxes like i have then please just stop wasting everyones time and STFU already.
90accordman 3 years ago
yeah..i understand but if you wanted it to be the loudest it could be you would be at 32 hrts, you wouldnt have a problem playing the low low notes...
SeanFarley25 3 years ago
your incorrect, all it does it makes the peak lower then what it is currently. i didnt want a 32hz peak hz if i wanted that i would have tuned it at that
90accordman 3 years ago
wrong box bro...the low note that song plays, you should be at ur max excursion when that is playing, not the note it plays thats higher...its still low, but you need to tune that bitch to around 32 33 hrts.
SeanFarley25 3 years ago
the box wasnt made for lows it was made to be loud on different genres of music. the video was just to show people the new sub, just people on youtube and the net seem to think the sub has to move all overthe place for it to be loud.
