  • WELL FIRST OF ALL...YOU HAVE TO HAVE GREAT MUSIC AND BE A REAL ARTIST...FIRST...AND HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER...OTHERWISE YOU ARE JUST A USED CAR SALESMEN TRYING TO BE REBECCA BLACK HAVING HER CEREAL!!!!!!

  • Carajo! That way of speaking English kill me!!!!!!! well, review his blog anyway.. if i can! (I talk spanishhhhh)

  • That was great. I thoroughly understand the overload. Been there and still doing it...lol Thanks for sharing ♫

  • Couldn't agree more with the moral of the story.

  • The unpopular reality is this -- All of the Above. It's not a choice between "digital tools" and "direct human interaction" at all. To be successful in the Music Business (not necessarily as a "musician"), you truly need to master songwriting, instrumental chops and live performance in addition to the ridiculously numerous digital tools. Why? Well, the labels won't help you. It's DIY or fail.

  • I think this is great for up and coming artist to know - I want to throw this vid up on How2rap.com shoot me email (staff@how2rap.com so i can throw some interview questions with it. (Btw Got this message from Linkedin)

  • DAMN... you know what i bet some people were taking notes

  • I'm sure a few of these digital tools have some merit like Indaba Music and a few others. But I think the point is that there is a whole industry that deals not in music but in exploiting the dreams and aspirations of musicians by offering services that are virtually (pun intended) worthless to all but the techno business geeks who started them.

  • I'm a musician, Jim, not a promoter!

  • Great!! hahaha!

  • Direct human interaction. Thank You!

  • I am an armchair songwriter and I am amazed at how thoroughly this man has researched the online tools and websites for promoting and facilitating professional music acts. I too am amazed at how fast he can talk, BUT, if you notice the jump cuts, he has edited his exposition. It would be very hard to get all these words honked out so fast without mistakes without editing. This man kind of resembles Ringo Starr, with the hair cut and glasses. Anyhow, bravo on your research and information.

  • This is tough to follow until about 4:23. Direct Human Interaction? Whodathunkit?

  • Beauty....

You missed the most important ingredient though my friend. PAYOLA...

all these ancillary mechanisms are fine, but in general. they add up to bupkis.....the old fashioned way? Big Airplay...if you are going to go Big, you have to have big airpay, as bullshit as radio is, it is the Only way.....arcade fire et el are still flukie....

.PAYOLA, tired and true, you still need a strong indie to make arrangements...and yes, that could be me......

    good luck..

  • direct human interaction.

  • Bravo, well said! Although the sites you mentioned are all powerful tools to help band's gain exposure, sell merch, book gigs, etc., there is still no substitute for reaching out to fans the old fashioned way, by performing right in front of them and meeting them in person......it's the ultimate test of a band's merit!

  • All of those sites combined are about 50% as effective as going and hitting the pavement. Sure, many people will stumble upon your music online, but just watching this video makes the head spin, nobody actually keeps up with these sites. Much of the energy is better put into making contacts and getting the act in somewhere useful.

  • This is CLASSIC!

  • This reads like satire but at the same time is really helpful, lol.

  • Hey Peter.. while the point at the end negates some of the dizzying array of tools that you mention, your list of sites and tools includes some really amazing services. I took the time to pull links to all of them for people that are interested in checking them out.

You can find them at newsouthinteractive(dot)com in the primary technology blog (YouTube won't let me post a link):

  • Can you talk any faster?

  • LOL

    Spot on !! ;-)

  • FREAKING LOVE THIS!!!! Can you do this live in my office!!!

  • im amazed at how many people missed the point entirely!

  • while i dont necessarily fully agree with the point of the video, i am mazes

  • Awesome. Loved it. However are you saying "aFROmentioned" or "aFORmentioned" ;)

  • Hahaha! Oh man... welcome to my job. You just gave me a thoroughly enjoyable laugh! =)

  • you're the man!

  • Well done. The ending is perfect and the yappiedy yap of all these freaking sites... wow that's so much horrible shit. What did Zappa say? 'shut up and play yer Guitar'. Good job mate.

So folks... get off yer ass.

  • the last 15 seconds of this was the best.

  • ...that's exausting. I miss radio. ;)

  • Possibly the greatest video ever made for indie artist. I highly recommend this video for aspiring artist.

  • anyone know if someone did a clip like this for filmmakers?!?!

  • This is great - although you forgot that artists can also perform on our show Stripped Down Live with Curt Smith! But otherwise you've got it covered! :)

  • Wow. Should I send you a check directly? Are you managing acts?

  • Nice job... Hootsuite is a good one for Social Networking. They have a mobile app too

  • God bless you Peter this really cracked me up ! #win

  • well done. great breakdown for any up and coming act or label.

  • And if your music is in the Soul / R&B genre, you will also want to send me your bio and album and do an interview with me for Soul Music dot com. :-)

  • Brilliant!

  • Fuck Yeah.....Get out there theres no short cut just play

  • greatest advice ever lol great pay off well done

  • greatest thing I've ever seen with the best payoff lol well done

  • Great!

  • no soundloadmusic ?

  • My head hurts =X

  • MY HERO !

  • Right on, Peter! I love it!

  • what was that 6th one? Oops, I'll just play it again. Rock on, dude!

  • One Fan at a Time!! Fight the Fight!

  • Haha, love the presentation. That's a lot of tools, and ... just tools. Without saying the music has to be great, still then there is more to it being an artist, such as thinking what and how you want to bring about your music/band etc. not just where.

  • Web 2.0 coming out of his ass! Excellent stuff, and the pay-off is pure genius. It needed saying... good job, mate. Solid gold.

  • Great job....... my head is spinning. Point well taken.

    don't forget spoonwood.n e t .... lol

  • I’ve got a headache, as if learning to play, write songs and work pro tools wasn’t hard enough!

  • Great! One thing you forgot is licensing music sites. In my opinion it's the most lucrative revenue stream for artists / composers. Site like Music For Productions Inc.

  • Absolutely brilliant. Thank you! This is exactly what my band needed to hear!

  • You are da man!! I donno bout half the sites you talked about but it made me dizzy. I have one music video and not many people saw it so maybe I need a fast talker like you!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • you should do consulting (if you don't).

  • We all need the human touch!

  • Wow. Tommy K turned me on to your video. Brilliant!

  • Straight down from Bill Graham himself! Whatup Billy!

  • impressive! thorough! glad, you remembered my lesson to you. "if you don't go to the show, you don't know!"
