Good Stuff. I would love to see the raw video so I can hear those SuperBugs roar. Any clue on your upcoming release date of Oceana Gloryana? Also, how in the heck do you get the opportunity to get on Fentress with the LSOs?
It is a nickname bestowed on the Hornet and SuperHornet by the formerly mighty F-14 Tomcat community.....just kind of a joking aspect of a rivalry among naval aviators. Hornet = Bug As much as I like the F/A-18s, both legacy and super, I was and still am a Tomcat buff. In a sense it was the SuperHornet that killed the Super Tomcat program so I am still a bit bitter hence the bug reference
ok now i understand why the "bug" refrence, i have to admit it is pretty funny too, i personally dont have a problem with the hornet or super hornet but where my problem is that politics mandated that the hornet program take over virtually every aspect on naval avaition, i agree that the superhornet program was necessary to address shortcomming and problems with the original hornets, but the F-14 program needed to be let reach its fruition as well into the quickstrike and the tomcat-21
i just believe that the superhornet and the tomcat, working together could have effectively filled the role of the A-6 as it left service, neither one of them can do it by themselves, but together they could, and still have an interceptor/air superiority fighter available int the F-14 as well as a light precision strike platform in the F/A-18, but working together they could put the sheer number of bombs on target like the A-6 could, our politicians really screwed our proud navy.
Amen. The downfall of the Tomcat was due mostly to the issue of maintenance hours per flight hour which was in all honesty just flat out brutal. This does not excuse the termination of the Tomcat 21 program in favor of the Super Hornet though in my humble opinion. That being said, it is what it is as they say. This being the case I am an avid supporter of the new naval aviation layout. On a sidenote, the last of the F-14s have been scrapped....no hope of seeing them return to airshows. UGH
Incredible footage Brad! Glad to find you again. I got to sit at the LSO shack at El Centro for FCLP in November. It was something I will never forget. We didnt have this awesome evening experience though! It was broad daylight when we were there. :) We were treated to VFA-106, VFA-125 and Goshawk bounces. We also got a lone Greyhound. No Supers though :( all legacy Hornets.
Yo Nate! Glad to see you stopped by. Yeah FCLP's are an incredible experience. The first I was a bit scared being so close, but seeing the footage I was getting I quickly got in the groove.
I never turn down an invitation to go to Fentress! Seeing Hornets up close and personal like this is such a privilege!
magnifique thanks a lot!!!

@ThreeNineLine - Apply for a director's account, or something! If your videos don't deserve unlimited upload length, I don't know what does.
