  • Seems the Big Wheel was not as heavy back then...

  • @italiandom7221991 well I guess my point is killed. *eyes rolling*

  • the old wheel sounds like an old dial up connection to the the interweb!

  • How this episode didn't get on the DVD set is far beyond me.

  • Interesting that the early bleep sound closely resembles the early Star Wheel bleeps on Match Game '78.

  • one of the funniest Showcase Showdowns ever

  • Gosh. Guadalupe looks very sad.

  • wow omg look at the wheel omg lol !!!!!!!!!!

  • To see a model of the Price is Right set, google "Price is Right ontheset" and hit the I'm feeling lucky button.

  • Damn the old wheel just keeps on spinning and spinning and spinning.

  • 1:16, Bob Barker should have said "Tune in tomorrow to see where the wheel stops." Or at least "Tell Young and the Restless that they won't air today."

  • Wow, that was a fun clip to watch:

    1. Big wheel is very different!

    2. Different rules for 1.00 spins

    3. Guadalupe, maybe the saddest winner ever :)

  • How is it funny ?

Maybe (probably) she was someone of limited means, and $1, 000 1976 US dollars are probably like $12 to $15, 000 today.

I didn't find it funny but rather humbling and somewhat sad. And I was raised in utter luxury...

  • Love that beep! :)

  • @AarHan3 So I and I wish they kept it.

  • When did they first have the bonus spin?

  • Original air date: January 6, 1976

  • they didnt have the bonus spin for 5 or 10,000 back then...that woulda been some serious cash in '75...even a thousand is much more value wise than today

  • Guadalupe goes down in history as the most emotional contestant in TPIR history!

  • I would love to see this episode in full too.

  • It makes me cry too!!!Contageous

  • LOL!

  • I guess that short-sleeved shirt of long-sleeve shirt thing has been around forever.

  • Pamela looks like she's either drunk or high. She had the blankest look on her face, like she didn't even care about the show. She looked so disinterested.

  • How times have changed! The audience celebrating was really something back in 1975

  • But they are not as what it is today.

  • I would love to see the full version of this instead of the edited one featured here. I hope that someone can post that video soon.

  • Show

    Show

    Down

  • dang. bob looks really young

  • twainname.... so do i. :)

  • I wonder, when did they add the beep we are familiar with today?

  • Probably around 1979.

  • Probably around late 1978-1979, travelsonic, but I much rather prefer the beep used in this video.

  • Thanks for adding this video on my birthday, gsn93. My birthday was March 10 this year.

  • The overall refinement of gameshow contestants decades ago is so refreshing. People today, well, things have gotten way too casual. Just look at TV today and you'll quickly see where society has gone. Unfortunately society has "evolved" quite shamefully.

  • This could be the tail end of 1975 or early 1976. It had to be before about mid-March though, because that is when Dig We Must and the split screen were both introduced during the Showcase Showdown.

  • How innocent we used to be, when Bob told Debra that she could win another 1,000 dollars she looked back at him amazed and said "really". Today people just expect to get things for free and show no modesty or humility and no appreciation for the value of things. I miss the innocence of the old days.

  • You have to be kidding me, have you seen an episode of CSI lately? Or how about Will and Grace, Family Guy Or Internet Pornography? How about the new phenomenon of "prostitots" where 9 year olds are encouraged (by society) to express their sexuality and become pedophile magnets. Little girls getting their period at 7, because of societal pressures to grow up. Huge upswing in suicides and mental and emotional disorders, school shootings and disassociation with reality and basic human kindness.

  • How about Narcissistic personality being included into the DSM? I have been on a college campus for two different generations and as regards to now I am just afraid of the unbelievable indifference towards other human beings displayed today! The absolute scourge of children with "entitlement" issues to a degree never heard about in history. The acceptance and encouragement of violence and sex without commitment (and I lived in the 70's). Have we evolved? Only the blind can say we have!

  • Your so right! I'm gonna go pop a Xanax now cuz I'm better than ever to help me feel good.

  • Besides, when was this about philosophy? It's the stainless steel Big Wheel, for crying out loud!

  • I knew something was missing. I'm so usd to hearing the "Dig We Must" music after Debra and Guadalupe each hit $1.00. I'd play that cue after they hit and it seems to complete it. :)

  • I loved watching this show as a kid growing up in the 70's we loved watching this every morning when we were on summer break. I also liked Match Game, Tattletales, Dating Game, Newlyweds, Lets Make A Deal. These clips take you back in time, don't they!!

  • December 6, 1975 was a Saturday. This can't be the correct air date.

  • You may be right, cause I saw another ep. clip from 1975 and it didn't look anyt'g like this. This had the green/orange set, and the clip I just mentioned was orange/yellow/gold. Plus, if u watch the clip w/ Guadalupe and Pamela in Contestant's Row, you'll see that the readouts are not all orange but in all 4 colors. So I'm guessing that this is around 1977 or so.

  • I should mention that the Contestant's Row bid displays changed to the four colors on August 19, 1975. I believe the green/orange set also debuted on this date. This clip had to be November 3, 1975 or later since it has the Showcase Showdown on it, and that didn't happen until the half long shows. Just saying this because this clip could be prior to 1977.

  • Yea, I think u meant hour long shows, not half long shows, when the big wheel debuted. But, again, you could be right, cause this had to be sometime within season 4.

  • I did mean hour-long shows.

  • It was the taping date. Not the air date.

  • Actually the show never happened @mitmfan

  • @droc9999 I'm confused. Could you explain what you mean by that? Which of my comments were you responding to?

  • this showdown was very exciting for the crowd, their reaction is priceless.

  • This was the craziest, wackiest episode ever! Pamela went bananas when she got on stage and saw the car roll out in Lucky 7. Guadalupe cried throughout the entire show (she beat her friend in the Showcase round). A male contestant was picking up women off the ground in the Bidding row.

Please post this entire episode! I only have this episode with the WinTV in the background.

  • I would like to see the whole episode myself in full screen too.

  • was the wheel lighter back then? it seemed like it took forever to stop

  • The wheel tightness can be adjusted. Some days it's loose, and other days it's tight.

  • Heck, what's wrong with crying after winning something nice on TPIR? I cried when I won my way on stage and then won a car playing my game nicely.

  • what wrong is she looked disappointed and sad about it like "no! i can't believe i made it into the showcase! dammit!"

  • I hope they had plenty of Kleenex for Guadalupe.

  • Yay, Guadalupe!

Winning on the wheel just isn't complete without "Dig We Must!" And yes, I realize the cue wasn't created yet, but still....

  • It does feel weird without "Dig We Must" and the all firmilar beeping

  • when did they start using "Dig We Must"?

  • I think when they introduced the new music package later in the year (1976).

  • To GSN93 please add the tags: The Price is Right to this video

  • What year did they add the "green sections" to the 5 and 15 spaces?

  • December 1978.

  • Comment removed

  • She did, it's in that clip where she played the Shell Game.

  • I love this vid. You can tell she was very grateful.

  • I kinda wished that this whole segment be posted in its entirety without editing ?

  • Why's she crying so much?

  • Probably very nervous.

  • Except when she smiled @ 4:02 when Bob made the joke about buying Debra's farm.

I see Guadalupe sobbing stereotypical of women, yet somewhat attractive @ the same time :]

  • Maybe she was dealing with something tragic at the time or desperately needed the money/prizes? It can be overwhelming I imagine...

  • Can you upload the rest of this episode?

  • I would like to see Guadalupe where she won to get up on stage and what she played and won and the Showcase to see if she won there.

  • Well, I know Guadalupe won her showcase, and cried again then! But gsn93 should upload the whole episode so as I can prove it to you.
