no problem with them not being strict with "our" idea of what samba is. but why they copy the almost naked girl, but not our music style... the guy would look less hispanic and more brazilian if he had a hat and free white shirt. the dance would look more samba alike if they where less worried about how fast it is and start to worry about seduction...

but, I know. this is the pasteurized international ballroom samba. from samba it only took the almost naked girl (only seen at carnival...)

@giuvic The almost naked evolved from a full dressed girl in the 1950s if you care to look in to ballroom dancing history. So it can't be argued that it is copied. The interesting thing is that most of the moves are copied from Maxixe back in the day rather from like Samba de Gafieira.

@seravi yeah, that's right. that's what hurts. it's called samba, but it's far from nowadays Brazil. it's so Hispanic (even the maxixe being "ours"). the worse thing is the people to see it and think, "ohhhh! so it's how they dance it at Brazil?". we all know it isn't like that and we all know it isn't supposed to be like that (it's not Brazilian samba). but, it IS the samba seen internationally. the other styles have less visibility.

@giuvic I can't vouch for normal people, but I can assure you that at least within the Ballroom Dancing community, everybody knows and respect the original Samba from Brazil. Professionals go to Brazil all the time to find inspiration :)

@seravi even so... at least looking through youtube, I've found that the major part of the international style seem to be inspired into something else (rumba, salsa, merengue?). I've seen some IDSF tournaments that prove the opposite, but mostly this isn't the reality...

You guys should first learn what's is the samba musical structure before posting stuff. Technically speaking I don't care who does the ballroom or not, this is not samba at all. Go to a music school before speaking out about stuff you have no idea at all. Get some knowledge before...

i am a professional Samba Dancer. This is not the samba in no parts of brazil. Check out the IDSF grand Slam final 2005 video for a proper ballroom samba. Ballroom dancers must represent the orgin of a dance, your not only dancing, you have to educate other cultures and give repect to the culture whos' dance your doing.

@bellafella99 and I am from Brazil, the country where Samba (the name we originally gave to the dance) was invented. If have your own dance, be creative and give an original name, don't call it Samba, because Brazil have used this name for more than a century now to denote a totally different dance. You and people you know might call this dance Samba, but this is not the rhythm originally called Samba. It seems like in the USA people change everything but absorb the names. Just give another name
