  • Classic, always loved this song :-)

  • ah, finally a version of this song that isn't full of pictures of war and crap. I can watch the news for that.. Some people seem to completely miss the irony in this song and take it as a revelation of sorts.

  • einer der besten songs, die jemals gemacht wurden

  • War in the middle east , it spilling it's borders is inevitable .

It's west meets the latent karma of it's past actions !

  • I really dig the the, matt johnson and i take johnny marr as a big guitar influence of mine. I would like understand the lyrics on a deeper/more worldly level. I guess I'm not one to dive into politics but how would you say I could understand various issues well just to get a better understand/ awareness of it all and how it effects me and everyone else? I'm not sure where to begin in that sense.

  • why ;can't it just be a bloody brilliant song?

  • Because of all this "end of the world" BS one of my friends sent me this link. I'd never heard this song before, but I love it now! Great stuff!

  • cool :)

  • matt johnson couldnt put a song out like this , in the policial correct mad day and age

, he would be forever HAVING to explain himself what the lyrics meant , or if/what his agenda was etc

  • one roman-catholic, one protestant, one shia and one sunni muslim dislike this song, but the honeybadger doesnt give a shit.

  • @baldur1377 Why didnt you tell the world the world would end up like this then, 20 odd years ago? Yer full of shit, Pal. Full of Shit

  • Have seen them live three times (sadly, only three times) and i must say, Toronto's show at the Concert Hall was amazing!

  • who dis-likes this? four people have no taste.

  • just the song no proganda pictures , wey hey i can put my own imagry and thoughts to the lyric

  • Thumbs up if this was your favourite line-up of The The.

  • never get tired of The The...

If Jesus Christ were to stand up today, he'd be gunned down cold by the CIA (add MI6, Mosad etc etc)

  • So true but people are to stupid to understand

  • Matt come back british music really needs you mate x

  • cannot believe i bought this over 20 years ago. amazing lyrics and one of the best albums ever made. rate it right up there with wish you were here!

  • What date was this?

  • This was the band at it's prime and it's best incarnation. I saw Matt no less then 8 times. This music is heart and soul.

  • I WAS THERE----FANTASTIC GIG, the sound was incredible...Miss them a lot..God Save Matt...

  • Mind bomb surely is one of the best music albums ever......thx for the vid!! Groovy Music, fantastic lyrics....still good even after abaout 20 years. Buy that album and you'll be rewarded with other aweful songs like "Beaten generation, Kingdom of rain (with Sinnead o Connor), "Beyond love".....not a single bad song. Well done, Mr. Johnson!

  • Been here done it. 1989 Combat boots, white stockings, black shaved hair. Welcome to the day. For those who remember trenchcoats. It was all out fun.

  • Hey, Thank you for postin some real footage. Too many hijack and mislead. I was a punk kid when this was out. Truth is, you gotta figure it out for yourself. I would play this at bars just to make people mad. Us older people had this on tape. No CD'S.

Wake up kids, we've been doing this for a while. Now we have kids and drive vans. BUT WE NEVER FORGET. We are mounting forces today against the evil. Or are we the evil Circa 1989. Wake up!!!!!!!

  • I saw this tour in Dallas... JOHNNY MARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Met Matt in the 2000's when "The The" toured again.

  • Forgotten the message and worship the creed!!!

  • awesome *****

    fav

    pce

  • I had two friends who turned me onto this in high school...I love this band.

    Johnny Marr is a God.

  • @Guitfiddlejase Yes Johnny Marr is God..

  • @MrNewman24

johnny marr is a rock star for sure!

  • One of the best albums ever by anybody.

  • religion is a delusion

  • 1989 actually.

  • Grandioso definitivamente!

  • The album came out in 1989.

  • 3:05 word

  • But God didn't build himself that throne God doesn't live in Israel or Rome God doesnt belong to the yankee dollar God doesn't plant the bombs for Hezbollah God doesn't even go to church And God won't send us down to Allah to burn No, God will remind us what we already know That the human race is about to reap what it's sown The world is on its elbows and knees It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds Armageddon days are here again
  • It's war, she cried, It's war, she cried, this is war

Drop your possessions, all you simple folk

You will fight them on the beaches in your underclothes

You will thank the good lord for raising the union jack

You'll watch the ships sail out of harbour

and the bodies come floating back

If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today

He'd be gunned down cold by the C.I.A.

Oh, the lights that now burn brightest behind stained glass

Will cast the darkest shadows upon the human heart

  • They're 5 miles high as the crow flies leavin' vapour trails against a blood red sky Movin' in from the East toward the West with Balaclava helmets over their heads, yes! But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming Honey you've got another thing coming If he ever finds out who's hi-jacked his name He'll cut out his heart and turn in his grave Islam is rising The Christians mobilising The world is on its elbows and knees It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds
  • armageddon days are hers again!

  • well, this song was written around '89. And it fits like a puzzle to the world today. It really is scary.

  • so true

  • Man that dude isn't just a great musician and song writer... he's a fucking prophet. Scary. When was that song written? And look at the fucked up world of today.

  • so true

  • best live performance i have ever seen

  • this is music!!..god doesnt go to church!!..neither to the mecca,.neither to the synagogue...could go 4 ever,..he´s all over us!!..innus ..oustidse us,..in the universe!!..macro cosmos..microcosmos!!

  • Drummer,,,, Ok Matt ok al in all ok

  • I wish people would just practise their religion in peace and let other people practise theirs-everybody should just leave each other in peace, why does it have to be a competition which turns into bloody wars-everybody is right, everybody should respect each other's right to exist in peace. Not try to force their beliefs on other people.Just stop it.

  • i don't think the ordinary people did not see this coming, i reckon its just apathy & shit that let all this bad stuff happen again- why can't the owners of newspapers actually spread the real news , not just what they make up?

  • No crystal ball. It was evident to those who were looking.

To all the people praising Matt Johnson's prophetic ability, it wasn't prophecy. This stuff was already going on if you knew where to look; if you read and thought for yourself back in the 1980s, you could see the sh-t developing...

    I'm with you.

  • the the tells the truth

  • Talk about prophesy!

  • assomiglia alla voce di dave ghan èe anche lo stile dei depeche

  • The hardest band to ever be found on google

  • I tried to find a track called 59 by the 1990's the other day, even harder but I agree. I was at one of these Albert Hall gigs. I bumped into the chap who played piano on "Heartland" at a Christening a few years ago. Hes lead singer with Marillion now

  • try quotation marks

    "the the"

  • or no spaces

    "thethe"

  • ... And, on their previous album, Infected, Heartland' was a song that indicted Thatcherism, ending with:

"The ammunition's being passed, and the lords been praised,

But the wars on the televisions will never be explained,

All the bankers gettin sweaty, beneath their white collars,

As the pound in our pocket, turns into a dollar.

    This is the 51st state--of the U. S. A...."

The point is that they were astute observers; what we see now had its foundations lain back then.

  • To all the people praising Matt Johnson's prophetic ability, it wasn't prophecy. This stuff was already going on if you knew where to look; if you read and thought for yourself back in the 1980s, you could see the sh-t developing...

  • Agreed, but he certainly raised awareness among those who did not read or think for themselves but were "smart" enough to listen to his music.

  • Soulmining still remains my all time favourite album. I had a chance to see them in 90 but I chose to go and see Primal Scream instead. Needless to say I regretted it and still do! More The The!

  • I loved this song when I was little lol :]

My boyfriend's dad is the bassist!

  • love it, thanx for this.!!! i love this band

    LOVE IS STRONGER THAN DEATH

i bought the singles in utah in a record store from uk. i live in america.

    amazing lirycs and stuff.

  • This is what being a musician should be about...saw them in Manchester and met Matt and the band, the most intelligent songwriter of our generation...

  • johnny marrrrrrrrrr

  • Thanks for posting this....pure genuis and amazement.

  • Saw them at the perth concert hall in 89. Front row right in front of Mat. Marr was mesmerising doing his snake like dance to "Infected". They opened with Sweet Bird of Truth and held the audience spellbound. One of the best concerts I've ever been to

  • increible!!!desde ARGENTINA gracias por subir esto!!!!

  • Why didn't anyone listen to them back then?

  • Comment removed

  • Saw them on this tour in Portsmouth - best gig i ever went too. I was right at the front between Johnny and Matt...wow blew my 18 year old head clean off. JM is the greatest textural guitarist alive. Amazing, inspiring and ever so slightly scary.

  • So spot on! written in 89 before all hell broke loose.." the lights that now burn brightest behind stained glass will cast the darkest shadows across the human heart" WOW! God doesnt belong to the Yankee Dollar...God doesnt even go to church...God will remind us what we already know the world is about to reap what it has sown...Yikes!

  • Stunning! Prophetic!

Who's going to win the 2.45 at Ascot next Saturday?

  • What a performance. What a song. They really don't make 'em like this anymore. To be able to express emotions and beliefs in this way is a gift and Matt Johnson has it in abundance.

  • I saw the same concert in Brussels in 1989. The best concert I ever saw. With Johnny Marr on guitar and David Palmer on drums. Tight band and great songs!

  • Wow, great video! Thanks for posting!!

  • just how good is this, superb

  • I just got this cd a few days ago, and I was floored at how this song is playing out right now years later. Was kind of a strange feeling.

  • So this song was written in 1989? That's creepy...

  • Yep. Matt Johnson is a hell of a writer,,,check out their "Beat(en) Generation" track also.

  • Matt Johnson IS very creepy - he has a almost prophetic gift and he writes REAL good songs. The whole album is coool.

  • all his albums r cool/great

  • Is'nt it?? I remember when this cd dropped. To listen to the lyrics now....So relevant!

  • Check the album "Infected" - the song "Sweet Bird Of Truth" - even creepier...It was edited in 1986, so - a lot creepier for that reason, although the tune is not as catchy as this one...

  • THANK You for posting this song. I discovered The The last year through The Smiths of course, and was really impressed by Mind Bomb I'm trying to figure out Marr's guitar part as we speak. Cheers.

  • pure prophecy!!! great band!

Album Mind - another good song 1.Good morning beautyfull and Beyond Love

  • Violence of Truth, wiht its criticism of Christiandom again... "as long as Jesus gives us everything we want - we´ll love him..."

I got a The The fan ( in its truest sense - fanatic, rather, the songs and lyrics helped me on my way through this world, besides those of NMA) in the late 80s, and yes, I still cannot help to remain one, aged 37 now, although I haven´t listened to them for quite a while. Matt Johnson is one of the very few artist who I´d seriously like to meet some day in my life.

  • Note Johnny Marr on guitar !

  • Yeah but John Kettley is a weather man

  • These guys must have had a crystal ball. This was written in the 80's

  • No crystal ball. It was evident to those who were looking.

  • great song

  • the melancholy cries across the flatlands of planet Earth have been heard, and are being answered all acros the Universe.....

  • it seems to be a nice venue for a band like The The, I am loving his live voice too!

seems to be a great fuckin' show too!

  • Wow thank you for posting this! They sound awesomely evil! Sweet
