I doubt if Phil Silvers was brought in to launch Carry on in America? Carry on was never for America. I think he brought in because he was available doing the Europe tour like many American actors

at the time,and most of all, simply because Britain loved him.

Kenneth Williams despised Silvers during the shooting of this film, and claimed in his diaries to have actually told him to "get fucked" at one point......

@MacJaxonManOfAction From the Kenneth Williams diaries. He loathed Silvers more long winded attempts at off camera humour, evidenced by a riddle that Silvers set him, which Williams instantly guessed.

The quote below refers to an incident where Silvers was being touched up by the director, Peter Rogers, and on reaching the groin area, Silvers said, "If you find anything there, let me know."
