Because, 'jonathan', Darrin wanted a "normal wife" to live a "normal life" with (he never got either), and she agreed. That was the basis for the enitre series: Sam used her magic only "sparingly"- and often to get Darrin into, or out, of trouble....I can imagine, after Sam and Darrin went back into the house, Endora added, "BLEAH!!".

Due to my job I get to watch Bewitched on dvd a lot lately. One thing I will never get is, why was Darrin so against witchcraft? If I found out that my wife had all those magical powers i would be delighted. i wouldnt be working, thats for sure.I would be living in a mansion & driving a porshe. Oh and I would get Sam to twitch a few million dollars to give to charity.

On a serious note, however, I want to say that when I was a child, I would watch "Bewitched" with my Mom and Sister, and did I ever have the warmest feeling inside when she would say "Sweetheart" to Tabitha. I recalled how, even though "Bewitched" was just a TV show, she made you feel loved and cared for. A very fine and lovely lady, both inside and out. I miss her even today.

The thing I loved the most about "Bewitched" was how Samantha loved and cared for everyone, especially little children, and had the wisdom to use her powers only if she needed to. In real life, Elizabeth Montgomery stood up for the less fortunate and the downtrodden, and I was proud of her for that. May her soul rest in peace.
