to people saying your not meant to take a ep3 to the limiter . yes you are , all honda engines are for high revving so the higher the rev the faster they go . basic mechanical knowledge , with mines ive found two bounces on the rev limiter works best , means the engine will be at a higher rpm in the next gear . if you dont believe me take an ep3 to a drag race . try a run with two bounces on the limiter and one when you change before it . tell me how you get on ;)
However, fuelcut overheats the engine, I bounce the rev limiter also 2 times before shifting but I try to avoid doing it too much.
Other way doing it is to throttle around 80-90% while wheelspinning, keeping it at 7500-8000Rpm, I use this technique on wet road instead of the rev-bounce trick.

So no telling what kind of power its putting down. Also although badged a "quattro" model, the S3 does not employ a Torsen centre differential (as in other common quattro models), but instead uses the Swedish Haldex Traction system in its on-demand four-wheel drive transmission, due to the transverse engine layout.
agreed Trystelune, s3 should win on the 1/4 mile, either driver is bad in s3, or type r is supercharged, stock v stock s3 should win. i prefer type R anyways I drive one everyday, and if someone was to offer me the choice of these two cars , i would take the audi and sell it fora type r and keep the difference!!

why is the older s3 better? I had one. It was fun, but to expensive, to heavy and to many problems. My EP3 is now much more reliable.A friend got the new one. by the way is this ep3 hardly modded. Here in Switzerland it is often wet. The S3 was much better to drive then, but in the Sommer when it dry the ep3 is just much funnier over the hills.
100% correct. European automotive engineering stands out a long way although i steer away from French cars. I believe its called the VAG group? Volks Wagon Audi Group, in my experience you cannot go wrong with German vehicles.

I do agree, I love VW, Audi, BMW and Pugani. this cars worth the money you speend on them, but if you are looking for something with good value, and reliability, I would go for Jap cars, 1st will be Honda with a VTEC engine (Civic typeR or the B series, Integra TypeR and Accord TypeR)after Subaru Impreza WRX STi (that's what I own)are good if you know alot about how the flat 4 engines work, my one is the 270 HP the UK virsion, and that's what I think about cars that worth to buy:)
lol vtec is amazing, yes other manufacturers use variable valve timing but you sit urself in a toyota celica tsport and the kick you get is just like a gentle powerband. however u sit urself in a 1996 dc2 honda integra type r. the vtec throws u back
i love all the people that are going on about how amazing vtec is. just about every company now uses a form of valve lift control, which is all vtec is. vtec is pointless when racing anyways. just put in a cam with the same profile as the high lift side of a vtec cam. you're launching at high rpms, so all that "low end torque," which doesn't exist anyways, that comes before vtec kicks in isn't used.
i take it you have never driven a vtec before i think youre way off the mark for starters vtec is much better and much more advanced than any of the copycats eg toyotas vvti for starters you can have a vtec controller to kick vtec in high or low end which ever you prefer as for youre no good at racing remark friends of mine have time attack crxs civic hatches and saloons running 300bhp n/a decimating evos and subarus on track check out icetronix mondello park ive an accord euro r running 247bhp
you're probably right, i've never driven a vtec. except for the one that we own, a 2000 civic si. my point is, if you're staying in high revs, you don't need vtec. you just need a cam profile the same as the vtec side of the cam. you don't race under 5200rpms, do you? toyotas system works when they apply it the same way, like with the late model celica gts. there is nothing "more advanced" about honda's system, as i does the exact same thing.
also, a friend of mine has a civic eg hatch, built with a dohc non vtec motor. it beats up on most cars. the cam he has in it is pretty lumpy, made for high rpm power, just like the high rpm side of a vtec cam.
yeah you are right, but civic isn't better than evo or subaru it is just a much lighter car and this is all! 300hp and 1210(stock car) compared to 300bhp and 1310kg in lancer evo! Thats all!

Danielabq22 I totally agree. Type R needs to rev too hard to achieve anything. It's max power kicks in at a whopping 7800RPM and max torque at 5600rpm. Not to mention that the exact figures are 148 kW @ 7800 rpm and 193 Nm @ 5600 rpm for the new Type R at least... Compare it to a WRX and a Mazda 3 MPS which are pretty much the same price (in Australia at least) and NO WAY you would pick the Type R, only if you are into looks more than performance. Enough said...

I had civic ek4 and I know how amazing car it was! But S3 is realy a car from a diffrent class(better quality)!
Only a bit modded S3 will easily beat ep3 couse it has 4x4! This is sad but true

i still think the type r is faster to be honest ive driven both just because its a turbo means nothing and the s3 is alot heavier there very close but the civic just takes it for me

Danielabq22 I totally agree. Type R needs to rev too hard to achieve anything. It's max power kicks in at a whopping 7800RPM and max torque at 5600rpm. Not to mention that the exact figures are 148 kW @ 7800 rpm and 193 Nm @ 5600 rpm for the new Type R at least... Compare it to a WRX and a Mazda 3 MPS which are pretty much the same price (in Australia at least) and NO WAY you would pick the Type R, only if you are into looks more than performance. Enough said...
